Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 General Feedback

I had the issues yesterday, and to be honest knew they would be there. I was hopeful when I saw 97%… thennnnn checked the forums. Turned it off and knew it would need a day at least to settle down.

Today has been flawless, and loads up super fast. Doesn’t even get fully through the cinematics. I run High preset with some things bumped up to ultra and been getting great performance doing some GA flights. My normal routes from 2020 are definitely more detailed especially with fauna and rivers. Overall everything is blended in a more realistic manner.

I was also happy to see a lot of the 2020 aircraft came across for me. I am just on the standard gamepass version but had purchased almost al the famous fliers and local legends in 2020.

Working on my PPL career now out of Santa Paula and enjoying myself. Thanks Asobo. It will only get better with time.

I remember Asobo said that all their developers are using VR and that VR would be treated as separate platform. Then why is the performance and framerate so horribly bad and why all this massive stuttering? Why is the mouse not working. And what’s up with all the awkward key bindings like shift for center view and alt + T for toggling the toolbar (??!!). How can the developers have been ignoring this? I refuse to believe they have not noticed these major issues unless they have some kind of magic computers.

The best experience so far has been the quick refund Steam granted me. Maybe I buy it again in the future if Asobo irons out all these issues, but I suspect it will take a long, long time, at least a year and maybe more.

I appreciate MS2020 so much more now. Maybe this was a Psyop.

Despite the horror with the streaming content so far, the Simulator has potential.
The graphics are better than the screenshots were promising. The Night lighting and texture looks much better than in 2020, water and trees also improved.
Hope they fix it all make it flyable.

Giving up again after nearly 2 hours stuck on the the “customise identity” screen.

It’s most definately not my internet connection, registered a 250Mbps plus download rate when updating IL2.

I hope we get some substantial update soon. The top banner and dev update was very contrived and does nothing to give me confidence in the sim going forward.

I managed to get in this afternoon and take a 172 flight. It was a tad glitchy and other aircraft looked square but no major issues.

Going to try go back on shorty and take another flight.

Has anyone seen player tags yet? Mine don’t seem to show at all!

Same here goes to setup before world data finishes skip all that and get customize identity and then nothing. Didn’t get the usual “low bandwidth ext…” the last time I got this far but still nothing

It will be in the bargin bin for Christmas…

I wish the simulator was working so I could write something productive here.

After the (awaited) dilemma at the immediate launch, if I get lucky I can spawn in a small aircraft on a place with little photogrammetry.

Forget about Airliners at big airports. I have turned off live / multiplayer traffic and it made no difference, the bandwith (I have a 250mbit lan connection) is SO low that I just can’t load into and properly enjoy the sim.

The thread here thats “about” that low bandwith message, has 60 messages and a 100% hit rate of EVERYBODY reporting the same problem.

The absolute worst thing for me is the silence from Jörg, Sebastian, Asobo and Microsoft since almost 24 hours. Their product they were selling for over a year is completely broken. They have to do better in reaching out to their customers.

I am hesitant to offer detailed feedback as the sim isn’t anywhere close to working as intended - and I am optimistic that it isn’t representative of the experience we will have over the longer term.

With that said, as things stand on Xbox Series X the sim is unplayable. I’m having the same problems as many of you - long loading times, missing textures, parts of planes missing. I’ve included a screenshot below from a discovery flight in Giza, Egypt to illustrate - see the missing pyramids and the rather obvious issue with the plane and poor hapless pilot!

Performance seems somewhat laggy and juddery even in simple aircraft, such as the Cessna, but I’m hoping that too is a product of server issues and will improve.

Good luck to the devs.

Hello @ysubplays,

Jorg and Seb released a video yesterday acknowledging the launch issues and outlining some of the measures the team is taking to address them. You can watch it here:

Thanks,

Once the dust (mushroom cloud?) has settled, I would like to see an Official Poll, that is purely dedicated to everyone’s initial experience - download, first run, and first flights.

It would be interesting to know how many people actually got to fly in the first few hours, first 24 hours, first week. How many had a (relatively) flawless start vs how many tried and failed over and over.

I am sure we won’t get one, but I would certainly be interested to see some numbers and to have an idea of what percentage of players were badly affected and how many were ‘lucky’ to get some flights in.

DCS autumn sale just announced. Maybe it’s time to get that steam refund.

Asobo you got until 8th December to sort out this mess.

The Kola map looks pretty nice and makes a change from the usual deserts. Made by ORBX.

Also it’s locally installled so no need to worry about this cloud chaos.

Yeah, I know. But in this video they only talk about the loading times. What about the terrible textures, the missing photogrammetry, the broken planes and all the other issues that emerged once people could get into the sim? As I said, since almost 24 hours no communication from MS or Asobo. Jörg was supposed to be at live at heise.de but that got canceled as well.

Please see the banner post at the top of the forums:

The waiting queue to login to MSFS 2024 has been resolved. We are aware of additional technical issues that the team is working to address. We will have another update later today.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I’m a big fan of MSFS and have spent way too many hours in FS2002, FS2004, FSX and MSFS2020. I enjoy watching the development streams, because Jörg, Seb, Martial and the team are obviously very passionate about their sim, listen to the community and play with open carts whenever possible. I also really like the idea of creating a sim by the community for the community.

But to say I’m disappointed in MSFS2024 so far is an understatement. According to Steam I got 12 hours in MSFS2024 so far, in that time I managed to do 3 flights last night, getting me to a total flight time of 20-30min! The Grumman Albatross showed a lot of potential. It looks fantastic, flies nice, the behavior on the water is much better than that of any seaplane in MSFS and the smoke and water effects are fantastic.

I was really hoping that the P-51 and T-6 would get more system depth or at the very least opening canopies. But sadly, the opposite is the case, the canopies won’t open and even worse the P-51 has got a lot of its original instruments replaced with modernish ones (some of them like the g-meter out of proportion).

And if that wasn’t enough only the portside flap is animated:

I can’t say anything about the T-6, because I didn’t find the clickspot to get into the cockpit. I was really hoping the Mustang and Texan would be improved in MSFS2024, I certainly did not expect them to be worse!

My internet connection is not the best, but I at least have a bandwidth of 50MBps, which is listed as the recommended spec. Today I didn’t get a single flight in, the closest thing to a flight was this:

…which took 30-40 mins of loading time.

I can’t believe the game was released in this state. I’m sure a lot of people, me included, would have been very disappointed if the release day had been delayed by a few months, but it would have been a far better option than what we got now. So far, it’s unplayable. I really hope it gets to an at least playable state soon, and look forward to the stream later today. For now I think I wasted enough of my time and will go back to MSFS2020.

Maybe, but still takes ages to get to the menu then can’t get into a flight just stuck on the map with the loading circle going round and round. UK and Europe seem to have the servers turned off.

Whoopie do, but I like many others are still stuck at this customise identity loading screen.

Why was this thought to be a good thing to be mandatory right at the start if the sim?

At least give us the option of flying a plane before we worry about what colour our hair and eyes are. By the way I haven’t even got far enough to see if that’s even possible yet.

I remember from XPlane 12. First thing it gets you to do when starting the sim for the first time is fly a plane.

Peoples planes aren’t loading fully. Your gas. Just hang tight. I’m sure the safari will come.
