Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 General Feedback

I have seen clouds exactly like those “unrealistic” depictions in real life. I can’t post images here that may be copyrighted, but do a Google search for “stratus undulatus” and you will see examples that are very close. They occur when a stable saturated air mass is located above a dry surface layer experiencing strong horizontal and/or vertical wind shear. I’m assuming the MB model has sufficient data to lead to that cloud depiction if conditions warrant. It’s not common but it does happen. We had them where I live about three weeks ago.

Some Live Weather cloud depictions can be “unrealistic” - especially the infamous “volcanic ash” clouds - though I have not yet seen those in 2024, but there is nothing unrealistic about the image you posted.

It should be my last honest feedback until positive ones in maybe a year when hopefully things will get better!

So thank you for bringing that out!!! You were able to fly through TS just because MSFS 2024 IS NOT a FLIGHT SIMULATOR but an ARCADE GAME as a matter of fact and as an arcade game Asobo is very gentle, the devs want to make your flight in “casual mode” and allow you to enjoy flying through thunderstorm without any “danger in the skies” which is not simulated in msfs in anyways (arcade) … I’m a passionate pilot but also a gamer, racing cars, two choices: Gran-turismo or RFactor 2/BeamNG, I go on Rfactor2 40% on my time but especially I race on BeamNG because for instance if I don’t pay attention at the RPM of the engine it will break it or if I hit the back of the car in front of me it will get damages and so on. This is why it honesty called a Racing Simulator and Grand Tourismo is in Arcade game category, at least it is honest from the devs, you get what you paid for which is not the case for msfs 2024!
No doubt we have tears & wears in msfs 2024 which is a good point in terms of realism but I’m not talking about wear & tears in this comparison with msfs and those racing cars game/simulator because the Live Weather don’t really matter somehow. It is to pinpoint the difference between a simulator (BeamNG) and an arcade game (Gran-Turismo).

In other words a real definition of a Flight Simulator is supposed to simulate real stuff (the base, the foundation) and one of the corner stone in aviation: the live weather has to be SIMULATED as much as possible close to reality such as dangerous up/downdraft, drastic/severe icing conditions, severe trubulence and so on… Therefore if you accidently fly in thunderstorm your airplane has a big risk to get in a deep stall or to get such impacts on the envelop that death could be the only issue to find peace (Aviation is fun but it is a serious matter which is supposed to be well represented in a flight simulator if we dare paying attention about etymology (Simulation) not about advertisings to sell smoke) … Turbulence in TS could be literally lethal for GA and tubes as you may know. This is the reason why in RL we pay a lot of attention while we make a flight plan especially in VFR in order to make sure that “my” PA 28 will avoid CB and of course TS.

METAR/TAF are so important matters, not in msfs 2020 or 2024 because it is just cosmetic in terms of dangers in the sky that you can encounter from point A to B.

Anyway, please don’t fly a C152 through dark CB/TS on Xplane because your bird will kiss the ground without your consent!!! :scream:

Xplane is a great tool to get a real picture of how it goes in our skies because it is a simulation, factual… and Laminar Reasearch still improving stuff in this era. That makes flights fun and challenging especially on IVAO/VATSIM, it is so close to my real flights with fun on top of that which allows me to learn more or to pinpoint some real minor mistakes that I do in real flight sometimes…Of course in Xplane, it takes longer to create a flight plan because you have to take a look at the weather before getting airbone. For sure I wish the same for msfs 2024, great potential in many ways but it is hard time to trust Asobo on my side after a tsunami of promises in Q&A since years for the sake of realism that were just “un miroir aux allouettes” to remain polite. (French Expression)

Based on advertisings and promises since msfs 2020 SU7/SU12 and more about MSFS2024, those realistic features were supposed to be implemented and simulated but… it was just advertisings and smoke.

Anyway, I care about your safety Captain (lol) :airplane: :cloud_with_lightning: :zap: :skull_and_crossbones:

Merry Christmas & Happy Flying to all of you guys

Not every time but yes, it does happen

I can understand the type and I have seen weird clouds a lot but they look kind of low res too, which made me wonder if the hadn’t been filled in streamibg wise.

MSFS2024
A330 - Crash in mid air - Connection failed.
Both engine and all systems down, not possible to reset and restart.
Bye, bye 250 passagers and crew (RIP).

It’s crazy.
It’s like having a broken arm and a broken finger. MS fixing the finger and asking how does that feel?

Can confirm it (only?) happens with iniBuilds aircraft - very nice to wait five minutes rebooting the sim. Just did a test flight in the 737 MAX and had no issues ending the flight.

At least it saves the iniBuilds flights to the logbook.

So huge thing to consider for next update make drop zones Lz’s clear of all mainly houses trees etc everytime I load into a heli cargo mission my drop zones are blocked with trees houses everything and everytime I try to land it say mission failed your cargo collided with an obstacle shouldn’t be to hard of a fix

Got the sim today and it loaded and ran very well. No problems except navigating all the menus to set up controls etc. A small problem is that I had to configure the controls the way I had in 2020 and am used to but then had to check every button and axis and remove ‘helpful’ other things preset to them.
(I suspect that has caused newbies problems in game until they realised)
It runs well and smoothly with great detail so top marks.
One big exception: trees. there were a bit too many compared to reality in 2020 but now there are waaay too many. Every hedgerow and some grass airfields have mini forests instead of nothing as in real life. Whoever is your tree-dev needs to be restrained and we either need far less auto tree generating sensitivity or a menu item to reduce it.

Well. I’ve finally cracked. I’ve been a daily 2020 user since it came out, and a daily 2024 user since that was released too.

I love 2024, or rather, I love what they’re going for. I love the improved graphics, I really enjoy the Career mode, I love the enhanced flight model and physics.

But technically, it’s just not there at the moment. It’s just not good. The amount of bugs, everywhere you look. The overall quality of the planes. The flakey career mode. The list goes on, these forums do a great job of documenting the state of things.

I’ve tried to remain positive, stick with it, be patient, look past all the issues. But I just can’t anymore. Patch #4 is the straw that broke the camels back (the white display bug, which can be worked around by increasing texture resolution except the sim grinds to a halt due to VRAM if I do that).

I really believe they will get there, but it will take some time. This sim will be good. But it won’t be soon.

For that reason I’ve decided to reinstall 2020. It took a day! It has issues of its own! It takes up most my hard drive!

But oh man what a joy, I can finally fly again! The planes work! My G1000 works! My 4070 is no longer doing overtime! My addons work again! (not insignificant: I’ve spent way too much £££ on airports, and most of them are not available, or not yet (if ever) compatible with ‘24) My PMDG stuff works! (who knows when they’ll be compatible …)

It’s so good to just enjoy the hobby without getting frustrated by every thing you touch or look at.

I’ll be back to 2024, in due time. But in the mean time, I’m enjoying the sim again.

I’m on Game pass till January. After that I don’t plan on buying 2024 anytime soon. It’s actually offered to game pass subscribers at $62 and I still won’t buy it. 2020 still rocks!

It seems every time I sit down to use 2024, I experience something inconsistent.

Today’s fun is my Tobii not working correctly. Because of a bug with vJoy, I have to manually select my custom Tobii profile every time I load into an aircraft.

This has worked fine until today. Now, when I select the profile, the camera suddenly swings nearly 180° and down. Then, if I wait, the camera very slowly starts to rotate clockwise until it reaches about a 45° angle looking out the forward and left side cockpit windows. It doesn’t respond to any head movement whatsoever.

If I switch it back to the default “Tobii” profile, then I get the default eye-tracking only experience. This tells me the issue isn’t with the Tobii device – it is working.

I hunted down the XML file containing my custom Tobii axis settings and they are still how I had them set when I made the file when this workaround was discovered. Therefore, the file isn’t at fault.

I just wanted to fly today. I finally had to some time to myself and here we go again.

This blows. I’m sick of this. I am sick of chasing my tail with this thing.

EDIT:

Bizarro. I duplicated the “Tobii” profile and gave it a custom name, set to all aircraft and default, quit the sim, located the XML file, edited its values to match my original custom profile, relaunched the sim and set Tobii to the new custom profile and it works as it should do.

I have no idea why the original custom one isn’t working, as the values all look correct for the axis. It has been working just fine until the launch of the sim this morning. Same PC, no changes to anything, just 22 Dec is all that is different.

Man, we are in for a long, rough ride with this sim.

Yes, 2020 is great, but recently it has been losing internet connection, having problems with Azure, and lags.

Imagine losing cursor mode in Msfs 2024. When using Xbox Series X in a complete vanilla state, without any accessory or addon. And then when I tried to use a mouse the feelook camera is unusable. They can’t get it right even on Microsoft’s flagship hardware.

If you’re asking about the meaning of the symbols, the H is a helipad, the blue drop is a point of interest and the green circle I guess to be an airfield.

I’ve had enough. I feel like they are just dumping garbage on us. Imagine if any other product or service had this many errors in it? 4 years and they still can’t write software.

I called a spade a spade in one of the threads discussing rain drops that are not visible on aircraft windshields which worked fine on 2020. I called the sim/game broken - and yes it is broken in many ways. The post got flagged as inappropriate and got hidden and i got a warning as usual. I 100% agree with you. I too have had enough of this mess of a sim…no sorry …game.

When you speak up - you get silenced, yet they offer no refunds to those that are unsatisfied.

Profits above all else - that’s the name of the game these days - no pun intended.

I digress.

I don’t need one of those two, because i am happy with MSFS2020 until Asobo have baked their bread!

It will will probably take a year or maybe two before it is slightly better and as stable as the 2020 version.

Until that time i enjoy flying with the 2020 version and do some Beta testing with the 2024 version.
