Hello everyone, I am doing some 2024 vs 2020 comparison videos. Since videos got some attention on youtube I wanted to share them here as well (in case anyone find it useful.)
All captured in 4K.
My System = Ryzen 5900X | RTX 4090 | 32GB RAM
Please write below if you have any comments. (I can consider useful video ideas, but no promises since my time is limited.)
Schiphol Take of and Climb. Weather presets comparison
Comparing system usage but this time with All Graphics PResets + DLSS (Quality and DLAA) + Framegen.
Scenery Comparison, 15 Cities Special Thanks to @AlexLegend165 for warning me. I removed 5 cities that did not load MSFS 2020 scenery properly from the video.
Graphic Settings Comparison
Hardware Usage and Performance Compare (Taking of from 3 cities and climbing)
Comparing All Weather Presets - View from a point (KJFK Tower)
Hay, thanks for this. Really nice contribution, i appreciate it.
Off the bat, top video, 2020 looks better overall imo. SF bridge was better looking in 2020, and way more pop-in with 2024. Seems only lighting is slightly ahead on vid 1.
Just added 20 Cities Comparison Video in ULTRA graphics. Nearly 1 hour long with easy to skip forward sections. 1st video in the 1st post.
I have included cities all around the world, New York, Tokyo, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, Barcelona, Athens, London, Cape Town, Dubai, Sydney and list goes on.
Not sure, but this may be the only 2024 vs 2020 city scenery comparison video on youtube with this much footage as of now. I hope more will be created so we can compare more city sceneries.
2020 definitely does look much better for me in VR because I can run it in more than 25% higher resolution, higher settings, and STILL get much better (and more stable) performance. That’s both actually crazy and not good at all when you consider the previous optimistic statements on performance.
Interesting observation @TOLOWTERRAIN723. I have been focussed on comparing how the two versions of the sim handle big cities. Now, I am going to compare a few familar countryside spots in the UK and the Caribbean.
I don’t have a video, but I did some comparison pics of Belgrade since it uses autogen and I know how it actually looks in real life.
2020 is much more true to life (I do have some custom landmarks and buildings in there so a bit unfair comparison with buildings look).
But my main issue is tree autogen which looks totally unrealistic in 2024 making whole town look like it’s in some jungle. Trees totally cover houses and buildings here and make dominant look.
I see the same thing in that Dubai part of the video.
Could you please compare areas with mountains?
Looks like LOD is often really bad in these places on 2024 compared to 2020.
Would like to see if it is also the case with a powerful PC.
Thank you.
Thanks for these great videos. I’ve noticed there is one small but perhaps important difference in these comparisons. Ray traced shadows. 2020 doesn’t have that and I suspect that’s why we are seeing less performance in 2024 compared to 2020, while people also commenting the lighting looks better in 2024. Ray tracing hits things hard. So if people want an equal comparison of ultra settings between 2020 and 2024, you have to uncheck Ray traced shadows in 2024. But then you may be hard pressed to see any difference.
What are you talking about? I can accept any type of comment unless it is nonsense, which is what you wrote.
The footage you see recorded in 4K, with traffic and weather off. ULTRA settings (default preset). AA off in some (or DLAA in few). If i wanted, i could easily show 2024 WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN 2020 and or 2020 WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL than 2024.
I am not making any comments here. It is up to user to decide. This is not “Why i refunded 2024” or “2024 Looks Amazing!” video. I just record and put side by side, that is it.
Example, now i am working on another video and for this reason i have uninstalled and reinstalled both simulators since i want to compare out of the box performance for all presets and DLSS + FrameGen. (Only change will be dlss to v3.8). To avoid any stream related issue from Microsoft Servers.
SO IF YOU FIND ANYTHING WRONG PLEASE WRITE THAT instead accusing me of turning off Photogrammetry. Thanks.
If you properly checked the 1st video you would see:
How London looks better in 2024. (this one you talking about?)
How Beijing looks better in 2020 (even the landmarks rendered better).
How New York looks same, but more trees in 2024. (this one?)
The bugged building with pink texture missing graphic in Venice.
Come on man, you can CLEARLY tell appart the generic buildings vs the photogrametry. All the red outiles are the giveaway that 2020 has photogrametry turned off. And these are just a few examples
You are missing the point.
i said “I did not intentionally turn Photogrammetry off.” and i am behind my word. That was the reason for that wall of text.
On the other hand If anything wrong in the video, I will be more than happy to remove the footage that shows wrong stuff and correct it with new video. No screenshot needed. Letting me now the city names is enough.
From your screenshots i recognized London, Paris and Sydney. I will check it and remove that footage and upload proper footage as a second video.
Thanks for the warning btw, i will update the information by referring you.(if you dont want me to, let me know i will remove your nickname).
Firstly, the only rayfraced shadows are the cockpit. Secondly, I turned all shadows to minium or off (if possible) and still get much better performance in 2020. So yeah, rayfraced anything eats performance, but it’s not the only reason performance in 2024 is terrible.
That’s what I’ve been saying! The tree autogen is very bad located in MSFS2024. There are too many forests everywhere, including in deforested areas, crops, etc. This has to be corrected. It is an error that covers the entire planet. Unfortunately Asobo I don’t think he will take responsibility for his mistake. MSFS2020 was very well placed trees compared to this new simulator. It takes away a lot of immersion. The whole world looks like a forest now
