If you want to postpone the windows updates, follow Chris Titus tutorial of WinUtil. Win 24H2 is a feauture update and with WinUtil you can postpone those for 2 years and still get the security updates.
At the end of the Itechtics tutorial it states “the solutions given to block the 22H2 update for the respective Windows OS are only good if they have not been installed already. If you have already installed the feature update and want to undo it, simply roll back to the previous version.”
I guess the obvious question (at least for me) is why not just roll back to 23 when 24 comes out? Would WMR come back?
If you have Wi-Fi 6E router or are happy to spend another £150 to get one. I’d rather go for link cable. Cheaper and more reliable than wireless.
I just use a 5GHz WiFi 6 router (not 6GHz E). Works great and, in my case, much better than link cable, so mileage may vary significantly between setups.
I’ve been looking at Somnium’s “Specter Edition” but it’s expensive and takes a preorder for apparently December delivery. It also doesn’t have off ear headphones (or any headphones) but does have a miniplug jack on the headset. It uses Valve’s laser tracking. Also reportedly a bit heavy and bulky.
On the other hand, it’s 2880x2880 per eye with some tasty specs - massive field of view (maybe not as good as Pimax?), I can 3D print mounts for off-ear speakers/headphones, and already have the Valve laser trackers which does seriously accurate head tracking.
I’ve been flying an airplane where there’s a lot to do down on my right console area and whenever I look there, the G2 loses tracking and my viewpoint ends up floating outside the cockpit until it sorts it, and then I’m back in - jarring. I never had those issues using Valve’s laser tracking with the Index. Never.
I use the heck out of the G2. With FS2024 coming, all the high resolution crystal clear images ought to be incredible. I just haven’t wanted to send that much out of the country without more information on their headsets.
I’ll never buy a facebook/meta headset. If that was my only choice I’d hang up my wings or go splurge on huge triples.
Or just have it as part of your internet. I do. I think I pay a few dollars a month as a rental, but that way if it has a problem I can just go pick up a new one.
It’s better than a cable, not somehow “less reliable.”
They’re the best in the price range. If your hang up is giving them money, remember they sell at a loss, and if it’s having a FB account, you can create a fake one then forget it exists.
I don’t mind spending more to get a really good headset but regardless of price, I just won’t have one. And even if they are selling at a loss, it’s money going to a dev I don’t care for, still helps pay their bills, and is an opportunity to notch another user to promote how popular their headsets are. They still profit. Meanwhile, other devs building other headsets see an incrementally larger behemoth and are incrementally less likely to challenge them in a market where people just roll over regardless of how damaging the company might be. Nope. Nada. Nichts.
I went to the Valve Index, since Valve invented much of what we know as “VR” technology. I am very happy with it. It does not fix the issues in this sim, but it runs AFS4 on Insane settings like a champ. I am resisting the trend toward higher resolutions with more bells and whistles for now. SteamVR all the way for me now.
Nah, they profit if you buy from their store. You buying a headset actually costs them money, but I hear you. The other points are valid.
For myself I’ll get the best for the money no matter who makes it. If someone wants to make a better one for less, I’ll buy that… provided I have faith it’ll have support. In this thread we’re seeing what happens when you don’t get something “main stream” enough apparently. It’s unfortunate, but another reason to go with the more popular product. A niche product inside a niche genre/area is a tough thing.
I don’t know, but for me it’s not worth the risk of finding that it won’t. Besides, I believe that quote is focused really on the enabling of the group policy editor (gpedit.msc). Enabling it takes you one step closer to Win11 PRO for free - don’t see why anyone would want to return to having it disfunctional. (And of course, should you want eventually to upgrade to 24H2 for any reason - like moving to a non-wmr headset - gpedit can always be used to return the relevant policy to disabled status.)
What technology is that, that Valve invented?
The MS announcement for ending support for WMR in 2026 is crazy-making at best, since traditionally one can hold off a “feature update”, e. g. 24H2, install of windows for only one year, i.e. 2025. Currently on win10 and looking to update my G2 next year for the obvious reason (and only that one). YouTubers have us believing that the PCL is the answer, but it’s not. A good friend of mine just sent back a PCL for its fisheye effect and ■■■■■■ controller tracking. Sort of comforting that others report the same problem, but as far as a G2 replacement…now what? hint: definitely not a Q3.
Why not a Q3, works great for me? Maybe a nice new Pimax Crystal Light would suit you better. Good luck mate whichever way you go. Cheers.

Thanks for setting me straight, this does indeed appear to cover also Win 11 Home. I chose the reg-fix method, fingers crossed it works.
At the end of the grace-period (October 2025?), do you know if 24H2 is just forcefully installed or if I’ll be notified? Or will the patches/security-fixes just cease?
Thanks for sharing. I noticed that your CPU is one generation behind mine, do you know how important it is to upgrade them together? I read somewhere that VR benefits more from GPU vs CPU but how much can one stretch that?
As I wrote before, a totally new rig is not in the cards right now but going for just a 4070Ti or 4080 to go with my existing 10700 would be easier. Just don’t want to risk having an outdated CPU limiting a new GPU too much.
If you read @AcidBath6450 post again you will notice he is not a big fan of Pimax. PCL stands for Pimax Crystal Light.
I got my PCL a few days ago and sending it back because of fisheye effect. It’s also not very comfortable to wear, much worse than my G2.
You got to love Microsoft though. As a software engineer I have had to enjoy and endure their complete and utter dedication to backwards compatibility. To the point where you can run obscure dos stuff inside Windows 11.
And then when finally I am the customer and user of a legacy feature, they brick it.
Also their customer support is practically non existent. I had lots of trouble with my Crystal and they simply didn’t respond so I had to RMA.
