Middle Mouse button snaps internal view back

When pressing middle mouse button in cockpit view, normally it toggles between free look and cockpit interaction mode.

Recently when pressing middle mouse button in cockpit view, it ALSO resets the view back to the front. This is NOT an action declared in the controls option.

How do we disable this unintended and disastrous action?
