“Mirrored” textures 747-8 and 787-10

Funny how textures work fine on the French-built plane.

we need an answer as to why it said’s that it is not planned to fix the mirrored issue

Not planned could mean never.
I don’t know why they chose to slaughter the 747, other planes are OK.

Yes right! an iconic aircraft like this; it’s just unacceptable

I guess we’ll have to wait for a PMDG addon…

I’m sure it’s purely a coincidence that the French-made airbus textures work perfectly.

Cause the model only has a small rectangle vector area dedicated to the lower front fuselage side for the “Boeing” you just erase the “Boeing” out of that image and try to fit “British Airways” in to it and it will be placed as a decal correctly oriented, but the problem is the decal is in that specific location so its limited. That is why painters are kinda doing hybrid liveries now to just place the text there instead. Too bad for those who live by Bill Board Schemes, The Tail is 1 sided for anything. You could try to fill in the “747” decal on the Tail with some logo, but it will be limited to that area and that decal also duplicates to the little 747 one on the front fuselage by the nose.

Can anyone please explain how it is possible for the WORLD TRAVEL Livery on the Boeing 747 to render properly (not reversed on one side)??
Why do WE get a fake livery that renders properly but can’t get a real airline livery to render properly?

Am I missing something here? It’s obviously possible for these liveries to render properly - why can’t Asobo / Microsoft / whoever provide a template that can be used just like the WORLD TRAVEL one?

Same goes for ANY other duplicated and reversed textures on other aircraft.
What is the problem? How difficult can this be?

I started a new topic on this - I should have added my comment here.

The new / old FSX liveries (specifically World Travel) render just fine with no mirror effect on the 747.

Does that mean there is a new/ different template that can be used to give us proper liveries without mirroring??

I didn’t really look at the 787. I’m not sure what parts of that are mirrored (engines?).

Why, all of a sudden, do we get fake liveries that aren’t mirrored? I know this issue isn’t critical to the function of the sim but looking at mirrored liveries really is CHEESE!

I think i found solution.

This is screens from same livery/same time

minus:

  • used different model files (like FSX asobo liveries)
  • need recreate model every time when main model changed
  • will not work with mod (if mod changed external model definition file)

@mixMugz That looks awesome! Are you able to share/explain how you were able to get around the issue? This could be huge for 3rd party liveries!

No. All FSX livery has text painted as poly.

Yes. I still experiment. But i can give explanation of main idea.

  1. Import external LOD00 in blender
  2. Select FUSELAGE or TAIL
  3. Press TAB to enter EDIT mode
  4. Select desired POLY and duplicate (Shift+D)
  5. Move littlebit away from fuselage something like 1-5mm
  6. Separate from object
  7. Remove everything except new POLY
  8. Create new material
  9. unwrap UV and create newone
  10. Export to separated gltf+bin
  11. Merge Main gltf+bin with newly created

Done

@mixMugz Thank you for sharing! Seeing this fix as “not planned” in the dev updates was a little disheartening and this seems like a rather clever workaround I haven’t seen before.

Well, given the fact that Asobo doesn’t want to rework UV wrap, we can ask to add a couple of DECALs to the model. This should fix the problem.

I haven’t tested it, but when I import the A320/747/787 most of the geometry gets imported wonky
right wing is mirrored, engines aren’t attached right etc… does it still work if you export it all as a new glf file ;)?

you need export ONLY additional part (created by you) not whole model. Then you need merge with main GLTF. Example of merge script you can find in A32NX sources

@mixMugz have you made any progress on this as a model for others?

As for the overall issue, I’m no programmer, but this seems like a pretty easy thing to fix, and it’s still listed as “Not Planned”. I am tired of looking at these mirrored planes when I’m taxiing around, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Asobo, if you can’t/won’t fix it, can you at least provide us with an official explanation as to why? It just looks ridiculous.

I already posted solution. Every livery has own required decals.

Then Asobo, its time to make your new Labels system or whatever method YOU use available to End Users. Enough is enough with this mediocre developing!
