Missing Packages error after few years

Hello all,

Before sending me to this post Old post that doesnt work please consider my scenario, here is what is happening.

Few years ago I bought MFS2020 trough Steam Store it worked marvelous without any issue, I decided to give a try to the new MFS2024 but prior to buying a game on it first release (early releases these years came with several bugs) So I decided to get the Xbox Game pass trial for PC… I did the install It took few mins using an Ethernet connection… MFS2024 ran fine has some crashes as expected, so after few days decided to go back to my OLD and stable MFS2020 then the Error meessage

“You are missing packages that are essential to run Microsoft Flight Simulator. Please update the application and try again”

Started to appear closing the sim… I did the following:

  1. Unistalled from steam, and Deleted the folder on steamapps/common also removed the Program Files/Microsoft flight simulator 2020 folder
  2. Reinstalled… issue persisted
  3. Removed all as stated on step 2.
  4. Installed on another Drive
  5. Same Issue

Please help, I’ve had 2 different game releases on the same machine withouyt having this issue (MFS2020 and MFSX… or used to have MFS97 and MFSX)

Ok this is what I did and worked for me, it appears that when you install MSF2024 from Xbox game pass will break other installations like Steam, so you have to do a full unistall.

  • Make sure to backup your Joystick profiles, navigate to <drive where you installed like C: drive e.g

C:\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\Input , copy this folder to another location.

  • Go to Steam and unistall from there, Open your Steam app then Click on Library
  • On your listed games find Microsoft Flight simulator , then Right click on it
  • Click Manage > Unistall
  • After unistall is complete navigate to your installation folder e.g C:\Steam\steamapps\common\
  • Delete the “MicrosoftFlightSimulator” Folder
  • Then navigate to C:\users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming (if you don’t know how to get here on windows search type run, then click on “Run” app and type %appdata% hit enter)
  • Delete the Microsoft Flight Simulator folder
  • Reestart your machine
  • Install Again

This worked for me, make sure to plug your machine to Ethernet for faster download, unfortunatelly MSF2020 and 2024 Relies on internet.
