When you select the mission you currently get some weather information that is not very helpful, and may not even be correct for what the sim actually decides on for weather when you actually fly the mission.
What I would like to see is:
For Departure and Arrival airports:
Elevation of Airport
Longest Runway Available (with width)
Temperature
Estimated Ceiling Height at airport like a metar(OVR010, FEW110)
Current Wind Speed/Gusts
Any other significant weather occuring like Rain, Fog, Thunderstorms, etc.
I’m sure there could be more but this alone would really help aid in whether or not I should accept the mission.
If the mission is not live weather then I can’t tell if what I’m reading in the EFB is real weather info or fake. It’s confusing. Also you can pick live weather missions by using the time slider, so then the weather is at some point in the past, and again you can’t tell if the EFB is giving you the current weather in the sim or the current live weather in real life.
Testing this out free flight shows that the EFB shows data on the current live weather in the real world at the actual time IRL.
So @YggBjorn is right, actually you can find a lot of the above information already in the EFB but you are also right, OP. Something is definitely wrong. Especially regarding to the weather, it still seems to be a bit buggy.
I am relatively sure that this will be fixed at some point, but I’ve voted for it.
I have been getting pretty accurate Altimeter settings by using SkyVector and reading the METAR for the airport when available, so I agree. It seems to be pushing live weather regardless of settings. I’ve also read anecdotal reports of people experiencing adverse conditions when real weather for location is beautiful. I think some of the missions generate some weather so you can pick the purple or red ‘weather’ dots.
In career mode in EFB no weather info, no METAR/TAF, no WIND.
When you prepare to fly in the mission you know nothing about weather conditions on your route.
There also needs to be information about the size and type of aircraft needed for this mission. Currently the career mode will create missions that finish at a helipad, but it doesn’t tell you that you need a helicopter in order to complete the mission. All the standard information, like runway information, whether the airport you are flying to has lighting should be in the briefing that is given to you before you accept the mission. There is no need to tell us about who commissioned the flight that is useless information.
Asobo needs to add better briefing information in the Career mode missions. Currently when you hit the more information on the career mode briefing page it tells you information about the company that commissioned the job, this is worthless information and frankly unneeded. What needs to be on that page is information like, what size and type of plane suggested for the mission, length of runways of the airport you are flying out of and into and if you need a helicopter to complete the mission. Also if the airports use unicom or tower guidance, and their frequencies.
This is a big problem. I think I have not seen a single smaller airport with any kind of weather info in the EFB. Really fun when you arrive at your destination and crash the plane or abort the mission because of heavy winds.
I would especially like to see runway lengths in the descriptions (maybe including an asterisk if they have at least one precision approach). I’ve been flying medium cargo missions and more than half of the missions I’ve seen fly into or out of an airport with too short a runway for the PC12 but you don’t know that until you select the mission, open the EFB and dig down to the runway lengths which requires another 6-8 clicks to find. It’s very frustrating to have to do that for 3-5 missions before finding one you can actually fly, especially since hanging around in the UI in VR seems like the best way to cause a CTD.
Bring back the detailed task information on the starting page for Landing Challenges and Activities. Landing challenges do not have any information about the runway or helipad orientation.
In 2020 there was a text blurb with interesting details about the airfield and the task requirements. There is no loading screen in 2024, so the details from the 2020 loading screen need to be moved to the briefing page before starting the challenge.
In 2024 there are no task details. Only a blue recommended flight path, wind speed (but not direction), and outside air temperature. The More Info button only displays generic landing information, nothing about that specific task. The text in the More Info page is identical for both airplanes and helicopters.
Details to restore to the Activity Briefing screen:
Runway number
Runway elevation
Wind direction
Wind speed
Airport ICAO
Starting distance from target
Starting altitude
Text description of the required task.
Restoring the info about the airfield, area, or aircraft would be nice too.
