:white_check_mark: SIM INFORMATION

This is vital information for our test team, please do not skip it or your issue may not be able to be reproduced or fixed.

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or 2024: 2024

  • Version Build Number (Where do I locate that?): 1.1.7.0

  • Game Platform (Exampe: Steam, Xbox, MS Store): PC (Steam)

:white_check_mark: ISSUE DESCRIPTION

  1. Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue? Yes

  2. Description of the issue: When moving the mouse for freelook inside the cockpit, vertical movements result in a change across a 45 degree axis instead of a 90 degree axis. The inputs are not being processed correctly in engine. Had a similar experience with primary flight controls in the tech alpha/limitlessbeta, whatever it was actually called. There is something very broken about the camera coordinate system both in 2020 and 2024.

:white_check_mark: FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you? (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently) 100% of the time.

:white_check_mark: REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue.

  1. Launch MSFS2024
  2. Wait 12 hours to move through the queue.
  3. Attempt to use the free look cockpit cam.

:white_check_mark: YOUR SETTINGS

If the issue still occurs with no mods and add-ons, please continue to report your issue. If not, please move this post to the User Support Hub.

  1. What peripherals are currently plugged in? Please name all of them as there could be a potential conflict. Mouse, Keyboard, TCA Airbus/TM pedals. One of the most common setups.

  2. [PC Only] Are you using Developer Mode or have you made any changes to it? No

  3. [PC, MSFS 2020 Only] Are you using DX11 or DX12? DX12

  4. [PC Only] What GPU (Graphics Card) do you use? 4070Ti S

  5. [PC Only] What other relevant PC specs can you share? Very High End.

:white_check_mark: MEDIA

Please add a screenshot or video of the issue occurring.

I wouldn’t be able to do this without filming my mouse movement and the game at the same time, which I don’t have the time or equipment to do.

Please stop asking users to do your testing for you after an obviously very lacklustre approach to QA. The price of the game and the user experience are entirely at odds with each other. Microsoft can afford to QA properly. Extremely disappointing.

Got the same issue from the looks of it, when I move my mouse slightly it goes all wonky and crazy same on the outside view. I’m on Xbox Series X.

Weirdly after resetting the camera, now the vertical axis seems to work better, but the horizontal axis is completely broken.

And when I exit mouse freelook, even though the cursor is visible it still controls the freelook, but only downwards on the vertical axis.

Edit: Actually it doesn’t matter which direction I move the mouse after exiting freelook. Any mouse movement while not in freelook is interpreted as a freelook down command by the game.

Uploading a video, will post later. How does something as basic as the camera not work at launch? Very, very disappointing to finally get into the game after queuing for so long, only for the game to be unplayable. Impossible to comfortably do any flying with a broken freelook.

The camera was bad in 2020 and it looks like the same broken system was adopted for 2024. It never worked properly before, and it seems like it never will at all until it completely scrapped and rebuilt from scratch.

“Built a new sim from scratch”… clearly that is either not true, or somehow the same bugs were imported over from 2020.

Same issue on Xbox. Joystick freelook works fine but the mouse is absolutely uncontrollable.

I’ve tried adjusting freelook speed and momentum, cursor speed and momentum, and mouse axis sensitivity.

I have the same issue on XBOX X.
Using the mouse for free look is impossible. XBOX controller or other peripherals does not induce this issue. It is limited to the mouse and renders the game pretty much unplayable.

I’ve seen this come up through multiple forums on Reddit, X, Facebook - this is a fairly wide-spread issue.

Started a free flight and hopped into the 172 and my camera is stuck looking down. Is this the issue you are dealing with?

Could be. For me it didn’t start the flight facing downward, but after I move the mouse in freelook mode by a millimeter, my spins off in one direction as it aims straight down of straight up.

• yes, on xbox series s with mouse & keyboard & thrustmaster airbus tca

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• any mouse movements in freelook mode cause the camera to jolt to either straight down at the seat, or directly up to the ceiling of the cockpit. there is no sensitivity setting that i can find to fix this. makes the game almost unplayable as i cant look around to interact with the aircraft cockpit. even the tiniest movements with a mouse cauuse this issue

same here on XBOX S. little movement of the mouse in freelook results in spining around.

Considering that the game is still facing numerous technical issues even after its official release, I tend to believe that MSFS 2024 is, in reality, in an extended beta testing phase. The "real" version of the game might only become fully functional in a few months, once at least 50% of the bugs have been fixed.

I hope the development team will address the issue related to the **Free Look** function, given its significant negative impact on the user experience. It is crucial for this issue to be resolved as soon as possible, especially for mouse and keyboard users who are struggling with uncontrollable camera movements and other difficulties when navigating the cockpit.

The developers have shown in the past that they are capable of resolving critical issues, and we, the community, expect to see the same level of effort for this version…
