I just want to warn everyone against buying addons in the in-game marketplace or requesting a refund for purchased items.
Buy directly from the developers of the addons.
I bought several items myself in the in-game marketplace, worth almost €200.
Unfortunately I had to request a total of 3 refunds, because of crash to desktop… with the last one I had the problem that it was not approved, although the item was still billed to me 3-4 weeks after the transaction was canceled when I tried to buy it and I did not receive the item and this is why I had already created a post here.
The Senior Community Manager Jayne [Jummivana] then contacted me via private message and he arranged the refund, then i got the money back, a few hours later suddenly i got the email that my Xbox Live account has a 14-day ban on all online functions due to marketplace fraud…
But now comes the real big problem, my Microsoft account has now been blocked because I allegedly violated the Microsoft service contract. Means I can no longer open any of my Microsoft apps because you have to be logged in for everything, my whole account worth over 1500€ is simply blocked and Microsoft Support cannot or does not want to help.
I can’t even write to support with the blocked account because of course I have to be logged in for that.
The only option I have now is to fill out an account recovery form, which according to posts online is 99% rejected.
If I now create a new account and buy the simulator again, all addons bought in the in-game marketplace are lost, as well as all my other apps, since they are tied to my old account.
These include:
Ingame Addons
Aerosoft CRJ 550/700,
Aerosoft CRJ 900/1000,
Simwings EDDM,
Simwings EDDH,
Orbx LOWI Innsbruck,
Zinertek Ground Textures,
Asobo Top Rudder 103
I’ve never had any problems with my Microsoft account up to this point, and all because the marketplace or the addons are bugged… but now I’m really speechless. I don’t know what to do now to get my account back.
I have already written everything to Jayne, but I have little hope that he can still help.
I hope that everyone understands what I wrote, I used a translator because unfortunately my english is not that good…
I have emailed support about what can be done with your account, and am waiting for a response at this time.
I would refrain from creating a new account and buying new items at this time as your ban looks to be temporary.
Unfortunately I am unable to do anything else, as this problem hasn’t happened before (to me) after issuing a refund - but please know I am doing what I can. I hope we can restore proper access as soon as possible.
Thank you Jayne for your effort, i appreciate it. And sorry that I opened another post, but since my MS account is also blocked now, it’s really a huge problem because I no longer have access to my e-mail account, Onedrive data etc. I hope this is understandable
It is for exactly this sort of risk that I stopped using the in game Marketplace almost immediately.
Once I discovered that they don’t provide any proof of purchase I realised how exposed that left me as a consumer to the sort of chicanery described above.
Good tip to avoid such things straight from the beginning is to wait for reviews on youtube. Especially as an xbox user this is so important. You have no other option than buying from marketplace.
Let that sink in: Request one too many refunds on an Xbox addon => Microsoft blocks access to your OneDrive files.
I cannot properly emphasize how disturbing that is.
Potential lessons to be learned:
Always minimize your interactions with any individual company to the fullest extent possible. Relying on the same company for gaming matters, social media matters, and personal business matters like email and file storage does not seem like a good idea. Using Steam over the Microsoft Store suddenly seems like a better idea than ever.
Never fully rely on a tech company for anything critical. Files stored on OneDrive should always be backed up to air gapped physical media, like a USB SDD.
Never request a refund from someone you intend to or are obliged to continue to do business with.
In a tech company, people are not in charge, algorithms are. The people you deal with can be the nicest, most professional and most helpful people you could imagine, but they are still powerless if the algorithms decide they do not like you.
Obviously, don’t use the MSFS Marketplace.
Should we be concerned about even using this forum, what could happen if we say something the Microsoft algorithms object to?
To be honesty I avoid asking for refunds if something doesn’t work because either:-
A: Updates will solve the issue in the longer term.
B: It may be that for complex scenery in time better hardware will inevitably make the scenery perform better.
C: It runs the risk of upsetting the vendor and getting me banned or having an account suspension.
Well I was lucky, I just got an email from Microsoft support, my account has just been activated… I will refrain from refunds in the future and will buy my addons directly from the manufacturer to avoid a total loss. While I still don’t understand why my account gets blocked when I don’t receive an item and request a refund, it was probably mainly because they suspected I was trying to use the refund service in a fraudulent manner.
