MS/Asobo - How Did This Happen? Free Flight is Awful

A huge source of the current bugs is that not all packages are loading on the start of the sim, meaning that if a plane depends on another package that doesn’t load (like working title avionics) they will be very very broken.

Hopefully we will be able to load everything locally soon.

Server issues can be fixed, so I’m pretty confident they will be fixed eventually. I agree with you it’s the best we got, let’s just hope they fix the game breaking stuff at least.

I imagine the loading stuff locally might come when the marketplace is enabled. So maybe in 10-14 days? Maybe the server issues will be all cleared up by then too.

I honestly can’t wait to get rid of my 800gb MSFS 2020 install.

Minority Report

One advantage inbeing an old dude is hat I remember FS circa 1980s.

I fly ga props for sightseeing, so I’m usually about 2k ft AGL.

I’m running an R7 2700 and an RTX 3060 with the default settings and I’m getting 30fps with no stutters in LAX airspace.

I’m happy as a clam at high tide.

YMMV natch.

It is not advisable to draw conclusions at the beginning of a project.

Haha, yeah i already got rid of my massive 2020 community folder. Wishful thinking i suppose. IL2 has been giving me my kicks for the last few months anyway. I was excited to return to civil aviation simming though.

Server issues will be resolved, especially after a good portion of people refund after today anyway. I’m just worried about the development of the actual game. This is a somewhat smaller market category of game/sim… as much as I’m disappointed, i don’t want to see it fail.

That’s fair, it’s a niche and hopefully this launch doesn’t discourage MS/Asobo from improving MSFS 2024. I don’t want to see if fail either.

Free Flight does not even work for me, once I click on “fly” it just shows endless spinning loading icon at bottom right. I had it running for an hour and it still never loads a flight. I cannot even enter the sim, even activities or discovery flight. just stuck at loading with spinning icon

Totally agree. Let’s give it a little time. I suspect, as a previous user commented, that some dependencies are not being downloaded from the server and that’s the reason many users are having problems. I’m sure it’ll be resolved soon.

Yep, me too here in Oz, no proper ground textures, grass or rocks, at least in the areas I flew in (when I could get it t work at all). I trust it’s not intended, but something to do with various servers not supplying the required data.

Same here 16 hours in and have never gat as far as seeing a runway.

After finally getting trough installation and setup I now am stuck, for 40min in the free flight where the view just hovers above the clouds. World map did not load properly and nothing seems to happening in the sim at the moment.

even if you get into free flight, its an absolute mess. its like when I unplug my router when playing msfs2020. flying over molten new york city is sure great fun! and everything is way too bright! its like msfs2020 4 years ago (with a new ui thats completelly without any sense)

Same here it’s been like that for hours

There are so many wrong things and so much stagnation and regress that I am basically shocked and muted as I can’t imagine somebody did all those things on purpose or listened to any feedback and so if is even worth saying something.

It definitely won’t fail. I’ve been part of this community long enough to know that this mess will be sorted out and quickly forgotten about. When it comes to bug ridden sim updates people move on and get over things after they get fixed.

Maybe this was all fairly predictable. A very popular and much hyped launch of a really new server heavy sim. The people here who said they were going to wait a month or so to get it were probably making the right decision.

Did anyone figure out how to disable traffic completely I disabled it in the world hub settings but I still get them on Ground with completely off liveries. Like European shorthaul in the US and vice versa?

Last night if you asked me that I would have said …Hmmm I’m not so sure , remember Microsoft Flight , they ditched that , no pun intended.

However , It is starting to grow on me , once I got logged in and had a flight in the Cessna 152 , got my keybindings to finally work , I was actually impressed flying out of their default KMIA , so much traffic , ok I have good specs , but ATC wouldn’t shut up lol , The night lighting I really like and the airport wasn’t too shabby although I have a payware KMIA so will see if that works tonight using add on linker .
The interface once you go through it as there are a lot of different options now is trial and error , but overall good and I found a lot of my key bindings on the TCS thrustmaster already binded , albeit I will have to tweak a couple of things depending on aircraft.

Now for the flip side , I am still confused about the community folder being in the c drive as I installed the sime on E:\MSFS2024 but no community folder as it is in the C Drive with the other files and user.CFG , but i think i found a solution to that on the forum.

The other confusing thing is about my PMDG/Fenix/FBW aircraft , how are they going to work , will we have to buy FS2024 versions

also in my MSFS 2020 they are installed directly into the community folder in MSFS 2020 , surely you cant just copy the folders and plop them in the MSFS 2024 community folder ?!?!?

Finally navigraph , FSLTL/AIG and VAtSIM , well we will have to wait and see …I suppose you can copy navigrqaph files to the MSFS 2024 community folder but will wait and see how to get the other bits working , just need to check my payware/freeware airports to see if they work.

anyway , I think it will be all fine , whether its a month from now , 6 months , one year , two …who knows , but if I can get into the sim especially on weekends instead of being stuck in a queue …then I think it will be fine …in time !!!

Unfortunately people keep buying into the hype. See, they know what they’re doing, they understand how the human brain works, in regard to expectation. Once they have your money, it doesn’t matter how half-baked the initial product is.

I genuinely don’t think anyone takes pride, care and attention in anything they are selling to a paying consumer base, any more. Literally anything can be chucked out.

People need to vote with their wallets. I am sticking to 2020.
