When i started using XPForce i also thought that it should look like that - but i had a previous experience with other sims so i knew that its wrong. Reversing the pitch axis in MSFS showed that it’s working wrong way.
I also e-mailed creators od XPForce because without fixit it - its useless.
Let’s see if we hear back. But I am not holding my breath.
I’m the mean time have you looked at the alternative “free” plug-in mentioned in this thread? I installed it and it seems to work in a similar way (icon sits in taskbar near the clock in Windows) but I could not get it work. Someone else is using it though, so obviously it CAN work. I think there is another software also (I’ve seen mentioned) but can’t find it at the moment.
Also with regards to inverting Y axis in Windows, I remembered I also bought reWASD a year ago (similar to what XPadder does but looks more polished). I tried to run it again, but something has gone wrong with my license for it and it won’t let me run it. I am in contact with their support to try and get it working again, but there is a 7 day free trial you could use:
The problem I had with AirForce Player was that it requires a chunk of XML code in the SimConnect.XML, but mine already had this. So maybe I missed another step - not sure!
GOOD 1: I was incentivised to spend some time and try to get Airforce Player to work after my first failed attempt. I have managed to make it work now. I think the step I did wrong first time was to start the “connection” too soon. If I load into an aircraft FIRST, then connect, it picked up the changing variables correctly.
After that, you can quit to main menu, change planes, change profiles etc and it all works.
Just need to make sure you have that snippet of code in the SimConnect.xml that they mention on the download page.
GOOD 2: It works reasonably well. It’s reliable, lightweight, the interface to change settings is good and… it WORKS, without this silly inverted pitch force.
BAD: It is quite bit basic. Some of the things XPF does is better in terms of more dynamic feel-in-hand. XFP seems to kick more when the aircraft changes attitude which feels more alive in your hands, whereas AFP is a bit muted (I am still tweaking settings and learning it though so maybe I can improve things) and doesn’t really do much dynamically. The effects it has are very much “canned” and the ground roll is far too strong (and you cannot change those settings) but I have been tweaking settings today and it’s not too bad once dialled down or disabling a few of the obviously fake things.
OK 1: The force you feel when adjusting trim for level flight is decent though (on the planes I tried with so far) so that is a big plus.
OK 2: I am still trying to figure out a few things which could improve the feel, but I see this as a temporary (and “free”) solution until we hopefully hear back from the XPForce developer!
QUESTION: Does anyone here use Air Force Player and would be able to share their settings (export file)?
I have created these 3 profiles so far for testing:
I did get AFP to work, and gave it a try a few days ago, but overall did prefer XPForce.
I’ve described in more detail in this thread over in the “Bug Reports & Wishlist” section:
What I had to do was make sure I was already IN the aircraft (just start a flight on the runway ready to go) and ONLY THEN open the application and click Start. Even when it said “Connected” in the bottom of the app window, it wasn’t actually connected UNTIL you start it with aircraft already loaded. After that you can go to main menu again and change planes etc and it stays connected. You can change profiles or tweak them and Apply > OK and it changes the effect instantly.
You can verify that it’s “reading” the aircraft if you open the View > SimConnect Data (from the top menu in the app). It opens another window and you should see the values changing in real-time.
Once it “actually” connects, then you can right click the Profiles and EDIT them or make a NEW one. Before that, the right-click just has those options dimmed out.
As I say (and as @LifelikeChair36 said) it’s not AS GOOD as XPF but I found it OK just to use it. I hope we can find a way to invert the Y axis in XPF though
@WSoltysik
Yes, I have an old MS Sidewinder FF2. All forces are correct here though.
Actually, both XPForce and Airforce player (one I got that to work) work correctly for me, I only found XPForce to have its effects more realistically depicted.
I have the problem, that XPForce quite regularly does loose connection to the sim during approach or after touch down, and will only reestablish connection after exiting to the main menu. Weird…
Did you have any luck with this tool?
I couldn’t figure it out. Seems that you need to send the output to another physical device (remapping) as the same input device can’t be selected in the right hand window. The only option I had there in output was some Windows MIDI controller. Technically it seems like it should be able to do it as you can select an single axis and it sees the input controller (my named stick as it appears in USB devices), but how to make + into - and - into + on same device was not obvious
I’m going to chase that company hard this week / next week. We paid money so they should support it. It surely would take them less than an hour to make this option and give a new version, even if they are not still actively developing the software any more!!
