XP Force people should reach out to Russell Dirks. He developed super great software of Force Feedback in FSX and P3d. I still use it in P3d, and it is so superior to XP Force.
Unfortunately, Russell decided to not develop his software for MSFS.
propeler on the DCS forum is making software for msfs, dcs, warthunder and others, which should work with a variety of FFB hardware, but hasnāt released anything yet.
I have done some sleuthing and eventually found a personal email address for the guy (Jim Keir). He also has a Twitter but I have tried sending a vague email first to see if I can at least get some communication going.
Seems that since 1.5 years ago he now works for Laminar Research in the UK! So maybe his own company is less important now, although he has still got a LTD Business, and is filling accounts so itās active. Letās see if I get to speak to him!
@WSoltysik A little update from me. Still no contact with the dev
I spent a few hours today digging deeper into settings, to make SOMETHING that is usable ā as I do much prefer the basic feel of it compared to AirForce Player.
Whilst not anywhere near perfect, I think I have found some values that work pretty well. It has almost nulled out the āwrongā Y force, but you can still nicely feel the aircraft go light and there is sensitivity around the centre to feel trim and roll changes, with a nice bit of progressive force on roll, and even some ācorrectā initial force on the Y at certain speeds and manoeuvres!
Thought I would share my file you can try? It is built using the Vans RV 14 which is a pretty quick and aerobatic able plane. Not sure what type of aircraft you fly but maybe this will work as a basis.
Against logic, it works better with the Y forces turned right UP, exaggeration HIGHER than strength and some Friction to soften out the changes of pressure. You can turn Roll down if itās too strong without affecting the rest too much but this felt good to me (with zero experience of how it really SHOULD feel!).

Please let me know or share back and improvements you can make to that!
Hi Everyone
I managed to contact the developer of airforceplayer and he is willing to update his tool with new features. Which feature do you guys miss the most with his tool?
Iāll collect the request and forward them to him.
Oh wow!! Congrats! I had no luck getting any response from XP Force developer (but he still sells the productā¦ terrible!).
I am sure my list will be the same as yours for desired features, so I donāt think I can add anything! Well, maybe theseā¦
- Automatic profile switching per plane (maybe not a totally different profile per plane, but remember the LAST USED PROFILE for each plane from those that we have created) so we donāt have to stop > select profile > start when changing planes.
- Automatic start the software when MSFS starts (like FS Realistic does). At the moment it only works if you start the plugin AFTER you are already sitting in plane in loaded flight.
- Effects - well, yeah I bet you have thought of all of this. Some of the XP Force feelings are much better. Going light / going stiff / more natural transitions / drag / turbulence, trim etc. Basically XP Force has some good stuff just the inverted Y force is killing it. Not sure how to tell AFP guys in detail as I donāt really know how it all works behind the scenes. Centring strength, friction, exaggeration (not really sure what that is meant to do but some kind of after-effect to the initial force based on what aircraft inertia is doing?).
- Stop that crazy artificial wobbling for the ground roll effect (there are 2 ticks - canāt remember what they are called - on the separate tab. Both are just way too basic and too strong side to side movement. Really awful, I just switch them off). Basically more subtlety and especially for pitch / roll resistance at varying speeds to ramp up nicely.
- Currently the GAIN slider doesnāt really do much - I canāt get the strength very strong (not as powerful as XP Force) even with full gain and 100% on curve well within the airspeed I reach / gone over it doesnāt ever resist very strongly.
- Not sure if anything specific to helicopters could be done as a built-in profile or special settings (no centre etc)
Well done man!!
Great to get someone to work on this.
Apart from forces in flight, I liked the feel from the wheels on the ground in xpforce, which wasnāt there in airforce player. Not sure if it was meant to be.
Anybody get XPForce to play nice with auto-pilot? Iām enjoying using it for fast jets and choppers where Iām doing short flights with the hand always on the stick, but I canāt use it for GA flights as it overrides the default auto-pilot on all the GA planes Iāve tried it with. Anybody managed to find a fix for this in the settings?
Happy to say that I have now fixed my Auto-Pilot problems - like a typical geezer I hadnāt read the manual. There is some good info in there and unticking āAlternate Trimā and setting āYoke Follows APā to āCentreā has fixed my problems which is great as I can now have force feedback on GA flights!
A few things I think might be helpful.
-
Having stronger force. when using FFB2 with XPForce and Xplane with Zibo mod, the stick really shows resistance to movement.
-
Having a way for profiles to load automatically with the plane and also providing some default profiles for the most common planes in MSFS, although Iām sure the community will build them.
-
It might also for an āautoā mode where the sim directly provides the force amount on the control surfaces and that is translated to the stick automatically. For this you would need to know the size of the control surfaces as well as the forces being applied to them. Not sure how much information is available from the sim on that.
Yeah I was going to add this! Using it again today to test something and it is very weak even at 100% on the curves, and at full Gain. I think the Gain slider needs to ramp it up by a factor of at least x10.
Also I really donāt feel that any of the options in the Misc tab really do anything. Do they?
What is Brake Effect supposed to do for example? And Gear Movements Effect? All of them, really
The only noticeable āextraā effect is the awful ground left/right wobble (which I just switch off) in General tab.
Any luck from the devs in terms of progress yet do you know?
When the Gain is at max, that its ā thatās the maximum force the joystick can produce.
In order to increase that max force, you will need to modify the electronic circuitry, by reducing the values of the current limiting resistors.
There are numerous website on the internet that give instruction on how to do that (at your own risk),
Note: it will never be nearly as strong as in RLā¦ motor, gears, and electronics are just not up to delivering that much torque.
If you want anywhere near realistic forces, you are looking at a multi $1000 solution
No, itās definitely not. Itās the way this plugin (Air Force Player, which we are talking about here) interprets the forces to induce.
XP Force plugin and even just the plain joystick without ANY force feedback (just the built-in Windows drivers ācenteringā it with the motors) is much MUCH stronger, so it can do way more.
OK, fair enough ā¦ my mistake.
Good luck in getting the software updated to meet your needs,
Hey guys! I was playing around with XPForce and my Sidewinder and also noticed that something was off with the pitch forces and at some point the resistance disappeared or the stick was trying to pull in the wrong direction. Turns out it happens when you have the Air Turbulence effect on (and I also have had it all the way to the right as many others I reckon ). Once I set it to zero the pitch forces became as they should be and I can feel the resistance when I change the pitch. Give it a go if youāre struggling with this issue.
Iāve informed the dev, hopefully he can sort it out.
Good luck with that! Heās still selling it but clearly not supporting it and unreachable to even talk to (in my experience and opinion). Not a great look
Our best hope is the dev of the other plugin that DID actually respond to @Zokrateros . I wonder if there is any progress on that since a few months has passed now?
I stopped using any FF plugins for now. The SideWinder is actually a nice stick even without it so not a disaster but I would love to get a decent(ish) FF going again!
The XPForce guy let it be known years ago that he is not working on or supporting an MSFS version of it as MSFS does not support proper Force Feedback .
Basically it is not a MSFS product and you buy it at your own risk and it is guaranteed to work for P3D etc but for MSFS you get it āas isā with no support, if it works bonus, if not too bad.
Thatās not what it says on his sales webpage.
Yeah Iāve read the whole thread and know what you mean. Bu he did respond already so I keep my hope.
Iāve tried this app but it just didnāt work for me. The forces were too weak and I donāt know, that feltā¦ way too artificial if you will. I know all apps are pretty much faking the forces but xpforce gives me much better feel of whatās going on with the plane. Hopefully Air Force Player will get better, more options are always good.
Itās been a while since the discussion with the dev has happened though, is there anything going on there actually?
Yep itās a nice stick (I will sell my Thrustmaster TCA stick now as Sidewinder is so much better lol). But I find any feedback is better than no feedback at all, especially for trimming. Also Sidewinder + SimFFB is priceless for helicopters.
Ah ā¦ looks like he revised his opinion afterwards. When MSFS first came out he was saying he was not supporting MSFS.
