No problem to load the sim but 4 consecutive CTD’s after hitting FLY NOW button after plane selection and also approx. 15 minutes in the cockpit. It’s not fixed currently.
MSFS 2020 and the Xbox app cannot be signed into. Both falsely report “You’re Not Connected To the Internet.” If sim does start, it enters a “doom loop” during the start up.
Think this about sums it up in a nutshell.
A lways
S tutters
O ffline
B ack to Desktop
O h why did I buy into this?
Are they trying to force customers into 2024?
“Oh look, MSFS 2020 doesn’t work anymore.”
"You’ll now have to switch to 2024. Our servers can’t handle both.
Ditto here.
Was actually thrilled to find this thread! Here’s why - My FS PC was perched on my window sill ready for launch as I spent the last 6 months debugging and rebuilding after finally determining my 4090 had died. Reinstalled windows yesterday… Got a hardware error in the event log after the 4th CTD and pulled most of my hair out. Had issues getting in 2020 with weird 0 kb updates trying to install. Deleted and reinstalled the sim. I am an expert at that.
Now, I will just wait, and maybe try to figure out where all the key commands went in FS 2024 (I know u can use 2020 keys - kind of)…
PS In Massachusetts
This would be a good opportunity for MS to stop this automated update check on every startup of the sim. For me it has no value. I’d rather check and invoke an available update myself.
This is the biggest fear of having games that require internet access… At any given time, despite PAYING FOR THE GAME, the creator can take it away from you.
I bet outtages would be far less frequent if we received a rebate from MS for every minute we were unable to log in and play.
A piece of advice, if this happens again, start the sim offline, first disconnect the internet from your device where you run it and it will start without any problem, then reconnect the internet again and once in the main menu, it should reconnect automatically, but this is important if you want to keep the offline start always (for me, starting the game online does not contribute anything connected, it just wastes more time unnecessarily), go to settings>data>online functionality>off before closing the game, so, as I said above, it will always start offline, because if you leave it on and there is a problem again, we return to the problem of this post.
The problem seems to be resolved. I got into 2020 after a longer than normal wait. I also find it weird that I don’t actually OWN the game. It can be snatched away at any moment…
we love Xplane 12
Please note long post:
Checked FS2020 this morning on 1/12/24 06:30 UK time, as I am writing this FS2020 stuck after loading 20 percent. Last night loaded then CTD.
Since the software vendor has failed to supply a usable product (FS2024) to the masses, why make life difficult for us fs2020 customers who waited nearly 4 years for something that is almost usable without constant CTD.
I do not plan to buy FS2024 regardless of how shiny it is, because relying constantly on a thin client and external servers is like watching a streaming movie, that is not my cup of tea, at least streaming movies work! The game should be on client PC so it can be used when things go wrong, if Microsoft accepts one time windows activation with OS/Office and can be used offline, why not the game. I understand that there are map contents that may need to be streamed but allow us to download the area of our choosing so we do not have to stream this over and over again. Storage prices have fallen significantly in recent times.
A lot of hardware purchase decisions have been based around this franchise, without flight simulation, the manufactures of bleeding edge CPU/mainboard/graphics cards would find it hard to find another loyal customer base apart from the crypt miners.
Microsoft please remember we have all paid for our games and contents, and like to enjoy this great piece of software for as long as possible without let or hindrance.
Same issue for me. In free flight mode, airports do not load. Restarted multiple times but no resolution. MSFS / Asobo is in complete disarray. Shut down the servers and refund the users.
No probs here i Finland took little longer load the game , no ctd at all
Still problem on Steam MSFS 2020 on Windows 11 and Windows 10
Yesterday my game CTD for the first time in months.
Today all seems fine.
Started up this morning and it spent a minute or two on the Installation Manager page - “checking for updates”. This usually only takes a couple of seconds. Then the sim started and everything seems to be working as normal. Closed the sim and restarted to test if the long wait was only the first time after the server issue. Same story, longer than usual wait on the installation manager page, but then it loaded in with everything apparently working as normal. I’m located in Norway.
Any info on what happened that caused this issue would be very much appreciated
Accessed 2020… initially okay, but had a CTD – Saturday 30 November at approx. 1400 Z, Hungary. That hadn’t happened in a long time!
I’ve also noticed the check for updates taking much longer (since '24 launched).
Last night my plane froze midair on approach after a 6 hour flight. Could still pan around. Thankfully found other people who had this issue that was related to server photogrammetry, and I was able to land by going into Dev mode > options > resume sim. Happened around the time this thread was created.
Honestly guys X-Plane looks more and more appealing with each passing week. Broken 2024 wasn’t enough so they had to break 2020 Looks like some kind internal sabotage.
Same here! In the last 2 weeks, my system has gone from an enjoyable stable flightsim experience to a mess!
