Same issue msfs 2020 not shutting down
I’m using the store version. I have the same issue as the opening post.
Same issue, can’t shutdown clean since this week I think.
Last night I used the sim, and when I shut down, it just did that. It shut down, no active icon in the taskbar. I could not beliefe my eyes and checked the task manager, but no sign of any FS2020 process.
Has this bug been fixed?
I just did a short flight and MSFS 2020 shut down like before.
Seems to be fixed for me.
I just shutdown MSFS 2020 (MS Store), MSFS icon is still in the task bar. Unable to quit unless I go through task manager. So, unfortunately it is not fixed on my end.

Confirmed. Happening to me too. Everytime I shut down MSFS2020 it will not close, have to use task manager to shut it off.
Looks like I spoke too soon.
Tried a second flight and the sim wouldn’t load…said was already running.
After a few try’s it loaded up , but when I tried to shut down its back to having to use the Task manager.
Not fixed…
I began having this issue it seems like after the last update for FS2020. I did reach out to the support team and they are trying to determine the root cause. I have tried a lot of different things with no success.

I’ve been away for a while, but started a flight two nights ago and had the same problem. Tried again today 28/04 and still the same. MSFS2020 latest updates and latest windows 11. Like others the main concern isn’t having to close it through TM but the risk of corrupting files. Hope it gets fixed soon.

Oh man…excuse my language but this software is becoming a real piece of c…p. Not only having the same issue with the d..mn thing not closing, but having a CTD consistently every time I try to use it for the last five or six days. Even in “Safe Mode” it simply stops ( frozen like an iceberg ) after a random time ( can be 2 minutes or 80 minutes, you never know ), and all I can do is stop the d..mn thing with the Task Manager. I loved flying with it at the beggining and it has a lot of good things…but come on, every single time I want to use it, there is some new “update” or some new “issue”. I spend more time working ( on trying ) to not have CTD’s and find a stable configuration than the time that I can actually fly. If I spent one or two weeks not using it, I have to go to Youtube and make a d..mn research about what the h…ck changed now and how to fix it…I don’t know if this is Asobo’s fault, Microsoft’s fault, or both. But this is really a disaster, and the big majority of people thinks the same about the 2024 version. I use MSFS since the 1998 version and this is by very far, the most unstable and unplayable version in history. What is the point of giving us so many “features” and “graphic quality” when not even the best hardware in the world can run this thing in a stable way? These guys clearly do not understand that the averge user of this software is not interested in the d..mn giraffes and zebras runing in the wild, but in having a flying training experience. I honestly lost my faith in the software. I’ve been avoiding X-Plane for years, despite all the advantages, but this is too much…I’m really sick and frustrated with all the problems, I don’t want to be stressed by my hobbies, and that is the real effect that I’m obtaining from MSFS right now…

as of today, still the same, to shut down need t use the Task Manager. What is going on??

Same here. After closing, it just hangs in the task bar not fully closing. It’ll be death by update in the end LOL!
Amen, I feel the same way. I don’t want to feel frustrated with my hobbies.

Same here. Since the last update the sim won’t fully shut down when I choose “Quit To Desktop”. To shut it down requires a trip to the task manager.
So a quick vent here. MSFS 2020 has been fine until MSFS 2024 came out. Why the devs are messing with 2020 is beyond me. Leave well enough alone. It’s bad enough that I can’t use MSFS2024 because it is bug ridden, a complete stutter fest in VR and much less of an experience than 2020. So please leave 2020 alone so we can enjoy a flight sim.

Same issue Ugh!!!
Another problem now. The entire simm seems corrupted. Green background loading screen and it crashed as if the sim does not exist.
This is a fresh installation on another drive than Windows. It happened twice.
