Msfs 2020 will not shut down fully

My heart sinks every time I see an update to msfs 2020 appear on the loading screen.
After today’s update for msfs 2020, the sim will no longer shut down fully and the Task Manager is required to fully shut it down.
After pressing ‘quit to desktop’, the sim disappears but the msfs icon is left on the taskbar.
There is a continuing cpu usage of around 18% until I close it with Task Manager.

Today’s update was the Monthly AIRAC (Navigation Data) Refresh. No changes to core sim.

Same here. Just happened to me as they’ve messed up an update with MSFS2024. Great start to the long bank holiday weekend :worried:

That’s strange. Because usually when I shut down MSFS2020 it closes fine, doesn’t remain in the task manager, but this time its done exactly the same as @AboardFaun59134 's experience.

All worked fine yesterday evening, I loaded the sim just after lunch today, update came along, now the Sim won’t close fully with Task Manager.
There’s only one new variable here, and that’s the update.

Just out of curiosity - how many of you are on MS-Store?

I’m on Steam and I just exited the sim after two good flights. Clean shutdown of the program.

I noticed the sim not closing properly about two weeks ago, However I thought it was due to me swapping out my amd 7900xtx for the rtx 5080. I never had this issue with my 7900xtx card but after ending every 2020 flight I now have to end flight Sim 2020 by right click the icon and end task.
Windows 11 24H up to date.
MS store version for both 2020 & 2024 (BTW 2024 closes perfectly)

I’m on MS Store version and MSFS2020 has now shut down twice properly, so who knows. Could be that I had just bought a new Helicopter, so that might have been my problem.

Helicopter was purchased outside of Marketplace and then copied into my Community folder. So it was a fresh start of MSFS2020.

I’ve done a system restore to yesterday, still won’t shut down.
Emptied the Community folder, still won’t shut down fully.
As I say, the Sim disappears from the screen back to the normal Desktop after clicking ‘Quit to Desktop’, but the Sim icon is still running in the taskbar …. 18% ish cpu on mine.
Windows 11.

I`m on MS Store, and today updated OS to 24H2.
Now since fresh 24H2 MSFS2020 V1.38.2.0 does not shut down completely anymore.
MSFS2020 Icon keeps running in Taskbar.

Never happened before under 23H2.
I am daily in the SIM.

Also on Store, same error, reported and had the report closed without any action, then a message to ask me how they did. Sorry, but I am actually glad to see more users suffering with this in the fond hope Asobo will investigate it, or give us the tools to find out where it is stalling.

I am also fully up to date with Microsoft Updates for my sins.

Same here. Restart Windows helps and re-starting MSFS2020 is no problem.
