MSFS 2020 will not shut down - SU 16.1 this time

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue: The last couple of times I’ve used MSFS 2020, it continues running in the background after selecting “Quit to desktop” and selecting the “Yes” option for the “Are you sure you want to exit Flight Simulator” question. This is very similar to what used to occur in SU15 until it was fixed in SU16.

The only potentially related change before this started happening on my computer is that I briefly installed and used MSFS 2024 before uninstalling it again to regain disk space.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

Every time I’ve launched and then tried to exit MSFS 2020 since installing and then uninstalling MSFS 2024. This includes sessions days and weeks apart, including after computer restarts.

MEDIA

If any addons (Marketplace/community), disable them and test again.

@DementedCorn327, thank you for the tip. I should have thought of that. Thing is, nothing in my community folder or marketplace add-ons changed before this behaviour started. But I did just empty the community folder and now the problem isn’t happening anymore. So my next steps are to chase down which community add-on might be causing this.

Do you have something external apps launched with your EXE.XML, even with the community folder empty ? When they are not closed properly, I also noticed the sim will not shut down after these apps are properly closed

@Eriadus6724, no nothing attached to the EXE.XML. I’ve always launched it straight from the default shortcut, and to my knowledge have never installed anything that would have modified the EXE.XML file. As mentioned above, my MSFS 2020 does now shut down correctly with an empty community folder.

This folder mostly held some paid and free aircraft and airports, plus a few utility-style add-ons. I’ll slowly add back just my favourites items and will then see if any of them re-cause the original problem.

Moved to User Support Hub since issue does not happen without any addons.
