Msfs 2020 will not shut down fully

Same here. PC MS Store version

That works only in Windows 11, isn’t available in Windows 10

I’ve tried everything, and nothing has helped. MSFS2020 can only be closed via the Task Manager.
Yesterday I ran another test. I closed the internet connection and then started the sim. Now the sim could be closed normally, as intended.
It’s amazing how long Microsoft and Asobo have apparently been in a deep sleep here.
P.S. - I’m using Windows 11 24H2.

Please fix this bug.

Just finished a flight and… I THINK IT QUIT PROPERLY!

I say “think” because the icon did disappear from the task bar but I forgot to check task manager just to make sure before shutting down the computer :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I think at this point it’s safe to say that they are intentionally not fixing this so more people will eventually move to 2024.

I sincerely hope that’s not the case that they’re not interested in fixing it - it would be a case of “jumping from the frying pan into the fire” wouldn’t it? ! It would be good if a moderator coud make some comment as this is clearly bugging people (excuse the pun). I know it’s been reported as a bug and is supported by over 400 votes (see the top of this topic) but a comment as to when we might expect a fix would be reassuring. Otherwise perhaps you’re right,

This is not accurate.

So what is then accurate and how come this issue not being adressed in a manor time?

If they have care for their customers, they will fix it.
This bug probably came after some other fixes/changes needed for the 2024, which indirectly affected also the 2020, but not properly tested on this version.
Anyways, it won’t be acceptable if they will leave the product malfunctioning. It’s an old and abandoned sim, but we paid for it.

“Intentionally not fixing” probably not, but surely it won’t be a priority, out of the thousand bugs they have in their backlog.

Had that too two years ago. 600 hours lost. Nevermind..

The developer shortcut to force-end a task is only available in Windows 11, unfortunately, you’re right. I have updated the title, to make this clearer.

To create a shortcut in Windows 10 with the same ease-of-access; you could create a .bat file to terminate the task, and save it to your desktop and if you would like to close the sim easily from the taskbar (since MSFS will be in focus), you can pin it to your taskbar. It might take a little longer to setup but you can also create a shortcut to directly close the sim. If you would like me to make a longer step-by-step guide, let me know.

A couple weeks ago when we received the Monthly AIRAC the sim would not close normally.

A few days later I received another small update, I have no idea what it was for, and the sim has been closing normally since then with only two exceptions I had to close with task manager and they happened on the same day and was probably because I was messing with sim addons.

Mine fails to shut down also. I have MS Store version with Windows 11. I have to use the Task Manager to shut it down completely.

The recent Navigraph-poll showed that the vast majority still uses 2020. Many did buy 2024, but went back to 2020.

No, I do believe in current state(2024) they are unable to fix it to 80% within 24months. Look at Asobo`s homepage, it is without any updates for quite a while.(Years)

MSFS 2020, things are going to rather quick for them, it is a crossfire. Microsoft, Asobo incapable resolving all issues in one go, impossible.
Look on the Xbox development side, how many got reduced since 2023 :expressionless_face:, the mathematics, or better I like to stay in this world under my own kind, how many are OFF in 2-3 years.

I think these guys are the good ones, but by far to few.

So…

You need some very best folks behind. And someone really very good has to help them .

It is obvious, why I do have to send these words?

Add me to the number of pilots having this issue since the mandatory update on April 18th. Sim starts fine and everything works ok until I end my flight and click Quit To Desktop. Then the window disappears but the sim still shows on my task bar and the sim keeps using resources. I have to use Task Manager to shut it down. I have up to date Windows 10, up to date Nvidia drivers, emptied the community file, started the sim in safe mode, emptied the AppData flight simulator folder. Nothing fixes the problem. Please Microsoft, address this.

+1 here as well :joy:

Hello, nice to meet you. While MS/Asobo decide whether or not it’s worth fixing the bug, it would be nice to have this “add-on” for us diehards who remain on Windows 10, despite MS’s insistence that we switch, or who can’t because our CPU isn’t supported. Although perhaps these last considerations would lead to another thread…
