MSFS2020 for me just started doing this the other day. I was using XP12 for the last month or so and now I have the same issue as described above as 2020 not closing unless I do it on task manager. No new addons or mods…

Same problem. So, not just me then…been having this f* issue and was going crazy changing stuff to see if disappeared.
Having the same problem. Started a few days ago. Quitting the game does not actually close it out, you have to go to Task Manager and force close the application. I’m on Windows 10.

Opened support ticket. Quick answer with helpings but finally closed because of I decided to reinstall my system.
After reinstalling Windows, and obviously FS2020, title worked! but failed again at next flight.
I also notice unexpected behaviors using my loved A2A Comanche.
I’ve been using FS2020 and XPlane 12 for very long time without any problem, but now I only fly XPlane 12 which is improving a lot, and is by far better sim than FS.
Interesting you should mention Microsoft’s servers. I too have experienced the problem discussed here - on a regular basis - for a couple of weeks or so.
I also built a new system in the last few days, and now I keep getting told that MSFS 2020 is offline. It goes back on for a while and then drops out again.
My internet connection is a solid 500mb/s.

What bothers me even is that it not only won’t shut down, it’s permanently using 50, sometimes even 90 percent CPU. That’s a gigantic waste of energy that is unacceptable in our time.
Thinking I’m going to deep six 2020 and go back to XP-12, they have rely made mess of 2020.
I’m about thinking the same, do these guys know what they are doing ?, every so called update is worse than the last, even though yes its a beta isn’t the idea to make it better and better ?.
I had this problem yesterday - it started when I updated the latest NVIDIA driver and changed DLSS to ‘K’ - you don’t need to ask why
I rolled back both driver and preset back to J and for some bizarre reason reason I am back to a form of normality
same thing happening to me here in nz as well, meanwhile out of some reason my graphic is completely offline too, even if i REINSTALL THE ENTIRE SOFTWARE!!
Was just to ask if anyone else noticed how MSFS 2020 no longer quits correctly but guess no reason after finding this 400+ pages active thread…hope it will get fixed sooner rather than later.
I don’t care about having to manually end task. But they could at least give some information about the risk of data-loss or corruption. So far i haven’t noticed any of that, but it still makes me nervous every time i quit the sim.
My install has been corrupted once as a result of killing the executable in this manner.
Thankfully I didn’t have to uninstall and reinstall the whole sim, the following time I launched it I was invited to confirm all the settings and the sim rebuilt… some stuff. I also lost my Logbook entirely.

They same has been happening to me since either the latest city update or the latest Airac update. It really seems no one has a solution to this issue… This is such weird behaviour. I have tried everything (removing latest update, empty community folder, killing all other programmes before exiting, disconnecting hardware…) Nothing seems to help

My guess is they couldn’t care less about fixing this bug.
The same thing has been happening to me for a month now. The SIM won’t close completely and has high CPU usage in Task Manager when I close it from there. I went back to Win 23H2.
