Msfs 2020 will not shut down fully

I found that when I had Windows 11, if I had the Nvidia App FS would do a proper shutdown.

On Windows 11 when I uninstalled the Nvidia App FS would not shutdown, had to close FS through task manager.

Well, among a host of reasons I reformatted my PC back to Windows 10, I found that the Nvidia App wont work on Windows 10. Unless I did something wrong, but it would not even install on windows 10.

I wonder if this their way of trying to forcing us over to Windows 11.

Guys don’t overthink, they brought the issue, I won’t mess with my computer because Asobo (once again) decided to break the sim.

Any other company would have released a quick hotfix a few days later.

For those who managed to sort the issue by reinstalling the Xbox app and Gaming Services, is it just the Xbox app you reinstalled or both of these?

Hi TenPatrol,

I did as suggested and : IT WORKED. Very good indeed.

I’ve noticed that on Windows App before uninstall ,the Gaming Services App was greyed…
after the reinstall process it was back to normal color ..full black and white..
Thanks again, you are always very helpful

edit : Windows 10 --MSFS2020 here

The thing is, force-quitting can also mess-up your pc-data. But Asobo/MS remains silent, as usual. Disgraceful negligence towards their customers is their norm.

I have reinstalled XBOX App only which also reinstalled Game services.

The other day I started MSFS 2024, not noticing that MSFS 2020 was not closed.

Just the app is all that is necessary.

So after several days of removing and reinstalling Xbox app and gaming services and windows updates and updating stuff and the problem never got fixed … sim finally shuts down normally again . The trick for me was, after removing xbox app and gaming services - rebooting -and install only the xbox app ! Then run xbox app once , it will update itself and will install gaming services automatically . Problem fixed for me. W11, 24H2 version . If I manually installed the gaming services through ms store , problem with the sim remained .

Me too! That was a stutterfest!

Uninstalling the Xbox App, restarting the PC and then installing the Xbox App seems to have fixed the issue with me (for now at least), Win 11 24H2.

Yes, I can confirm it too. The procedure described by vonsmall5893 worked.
Respect – great work!

Thank you very, very much. The procedure described by vonsmall5893 solves the problem.
(WIN 10 with the latest updates). Once again: Thank you

Thank you for confirming. - it’s great to hear it worked.

I’m adding below once again the correct process for uninstalling and installing the Xbox app and Gaming Services:
1 Uninstall Gaming Services
2 Uninstall Xbox app
3 Restart PC

4 Open Microsoft Store app
5 In search bar type Xbox and click Xbox app

6 Install Xbox app

7 Open Xbox app

// Once you launch the Xbox app, please wait for the update process to complete, during which the Gaming Services will also be installed.

8 After the update process has finished, customize the Xbox app to your preferences and make sure you’re signed in.
9 Launch MSFS 2020

Well, it worked for me as well.
Much obliged!

Edit: Unfortunately it worked only once…

For me it was just that, I just uninstalled the Xbox app, restarted the PC and installed the Xbox app again and everything was normal. My FS2020 is from the MS store.

I’m afraid it’s back.

The fix works up until I make any updates. The first instance I reported a few days ago the fix worked until I updated nVidia drivers and the problem returned……re-removing game services and Xbox app with a reinstall fixed it.

This morning an update for FSiPanel ran and updated into the community folder and the hang on shutdown returned.

A removal and reinstall of games services and Xbox app and it works again, but this isn’t sustainable for every update. Something is still amiss somewhere. It’s a sticky plaster for now and not a fix.

I’m testing the solution I devised on another PC and will let you know the results.

Hey thanks for the solution it worked! Not sure about the rest of the community but really, issues like this will little feedback and support from the developers leaves one leary about investing in hundreds of dollars of new add-ons. For all those 3rd party developers contributing content and making a business out of FS, maybe time to lean on Microsoft and Asobo to get with it in fixing issues. Just saying… thanks again we shouldn’t have to contend with their problems in this manner.
