Ok, it is a bug. I restarted the mission and tried it again. Now, I have checked the alignment with the banner, which is hooked.
If you don’t see the banner mark, you must restart the mission.

The first time I did it, I thought the hook release control was to undock it from the airplane and allow me to extend the hook so I left it in the released position and couldn’t catch the banner. Then I realized that the hook release is to let the banner go after the mission is over. So make sure your hook release is in the locked position when trying to catch the banner.

Hello everyone! I noticed that to correctly hook the Banner, it is necessary to activate the hook ONLY AFTER the plane is aligned with the banner, once it is on the final path for the hook. After several attempts, this is the only solution I’ve found. I hope this helps someone!

Got it working eventually, SCLINC had the key - in the first 172 banner mission the release knob starts in the forward (release) position! Set that to the aft position, and presto banner pickup!
I can’t confirm this. After the last update, I tried the mission again, same plane (C172), and it just worked on the first attempt. I engaged the hook when the mission window told me to (by hitting the key it told me to, just as on every attempt before), long before setting up for the approach to the banner.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?

Yes, I have exactly this issue! I spent 30 minutes trying different approaches (up, down, slow movements), and it only grabs the cable if I intentionally crash my plane ! After the plane resets, I go straight, and then it works! I tried so many times, and 100% of the time, after the plane crashes, it grabs the rope perfectly!

I have this problem too. I noticed that it happens only with the Savage Norden i bought, in the freelance career mode (whatever i deploy the hook at the last second, both hook setting tried). If i try the same mission, same location, as an employee where this time it has to be done with an Xcub, everything works fine at first attempt.

Was just experiencing this issue as well. On the fourth attempt I let the wheels touch the ground and it caught the banner.
Same here, 172 works, Norden does not, Alignment never gets green, strange.

Just got it, 172 with hook lowered when advised and early set flaps 20° and with less than 60 kts catching the banner, hook nearly scratching ground. Immediatly full power then!
I had the exact same problem until I realized that there must be two seperate buttons that have to be configured. One for the pole to extend it and the other one for the hook. Game asks you to press X but you must make sure that the pole is extended and the hook is active. I mean to hook must be in the hooking position. At the end of the game you must deactive the hook to release the banner. It was confusing for me at the beginning but after seeing the plane from the outside view it made sense. Then all you need to do is follow the instructions as is.

For those who made it works with a 172, could you try with a Norden please ?
I managed to catch the banner but almost immediately mission fails because of unhooking. No idea what went wrong, unless it’s my angle.
Today I bought Norden for my Aerial Advertising company and tried a dozen times to pick up the banner. No result. Just spent money. Although the plane is rather interesting. Before that i passed the same mission on C172 as employee and on XCUB with my company. I had no issues with picking catching the banner… I guess this is a bug.
I can’t remember since when, but for me the Norden has been working for a while.
I think it was after a minor update, I tried the Norden in employee missions and the hook caught the banner for two consequent missions, then pulled the trigger and bought it and it’s been working fine ever since.
I love it for aerial advertising, after taking off I don’t even have to do a pattern to catch the banner, I take off with slats and flaps extended and catch it right away.
Sorry for the bump but how do you extend the pole? Pushing X does nothing (172)
I tried the same, my own Norden failed to pick up the banner at two separate airfileds while in an employee mission in the same area it picked up immediately. I have no idea why there is a difference, I did everything the same.
