MSFS 2024 Controller Mapping

Can we get a thread going on general control mapping help? This might come in handy for those quick questions about the new controls and how to map.

Right now I am trying to map the controls and interaction for walking around during pre-flight. Does anyone know which controls these are? I tried the move controls and interact but it is not working as expected.

I find the configuration of the different commands horrible.
Or unless I didn’t understand how it works.
I’m in the configuration of the commands, for example for the nav lights. “Turn on the navigation lights”; I click in the box next to it, the number corresponding to my device entry is displayed and it says “Search canceled” and nothing.
I understood that you had to click on the cogwheel and select the key to assign.
So, you have to look at the key first, go to the cogwheel and assign the key. Uh…isn’t there anything simpler?
For example, as in MSFS2020, you click on the command to assign and that’s it.

You do not have to click the cog wheel. You can click the box and then click the button to assign it.

For me it doesn’t work.
I managed to do it with the axes but not the buttons

The mechanism for configuring the controls is incomprehensible. This is especially difficult when using several joysticks of the same type like the saitek Pro Flight Quadrant (and I have 5 of them, or 15 axes to configure). They all have the same name and we never see anything move even when we modify the response curve of an axis to confirm that it is indeed the curve of the desired axis that we are adjusting!!
For the name, it shouldn’t be complicated to display the USB device ID (other simulators do it !!!).

It’s complicated that at the bottom right there are several aircraft profiles and we don’t know which one we are on, which one is modified.
The MSFS 2020 system was much better and yes, easier to understand

My main complaint, apart from the assignment box closing too soon after being clicked (may be related to mouse movement?) is that it asks me to name a controller profile for different inputs on the same controller. Nuts.

next day edit: ok I worked it out now. Not the most intuitive but may work well once fulloy sussed. Though who would want a different profile for every aircraft? Not many, I’d wager.

Can anyone give me tips on how to setup for the helicopters. I can do it in DCS, i can do it in FS2020 but for the life of me I cant get it to work in this garbage. I lower my collective which is bound to the collective setting but the helicopter just hovers and wont go down. I dont have any assists on and have tried binding my collective to helicopter throttle but no joy.

Longtime PC Flight-Simmer, decided to learn the XBOX flying ropes on 2020, as (lets face it), that’s where the world is going.

Wondering why controller mappings in XBOX versions don’t align ( I play on XBOX and on another machine using the Cloud version).

There was a brief moment yesterday when I fired up teh Cloud version, and it seemed controller setting had aligned with base XBOX version…but it was a fleeting moment.

I forgot, it’s also a shame when you change the settings to have to save and exit. Why not allow saving without exiting?

What happened to the visual representation of where the control is at when calibrating?

This is crucial to help determine how much dead zone we need to configure if the control is pulling to one side when centered. Please fix this!

very true, this really needs to be changed!

I can’t seem to get the “custom” control mapping I set for a helicopter to stick to the helicopter. I have to remember to select it in main menu every time.

I thought part of the changes they made was it remembers the custom profile to each aircraft?

Can someone try something for me - using an Xbox controller (on PC), duplicate the default profile, rename it, clear all bindings and save. Close the flight (if you have one going) and simply restart it or create a new flight. Check your bindings - for me, in every single case all the bindings are back. I can’t clear them, and I really need to. Am I the only one? Something I’m doing wrong? Thanks.

In case any of you are missing these…

Now if they could make the stupid window wider so I could tell a JOYSTICK BUTTON 41 from a JOYSTICK BUTTON 42

The fun bit using a Virpil Mongoos T50 CM throttle is that if you have the driver split it into 3 32 button controllers - as some sims require - all three get exactly the same name! So it’s a case of choose one of them and then press a button to see if it’s that one! No? - choose a different one… until you know which is which.

btw if anyone is stuck, there are a couple of decent videos on YouTube showing how it all works - some get into more complex arrangements and some are just the basics.

When you click on the box, don’t move the mouse (at all) or it will cancel your attempt to map the button.
