Seems to be the same issue than reported in the live version: MSFS 2024 freezes when quitting to desktop. Can you confirm ?
Same symptoms yes, but for me this is only something that started happening with 1.7.21.0.
Bizarrely, just did another couple of flights and this time it quit to desktop normally for the first time in days.
The only thing I did significantly differently this time was that I re-enabled a piece of marketplace scenery (orbx london city landmarks).
Its quit properly twice now, so hoping its now back to normal permanently.
Same problem here on the final version of SU5.
Unfortunately I don’t have any great advice on how to clear the issue. I did lots of fiddling about, cleared community, a re-install, forced it to start in safe mode. It started working again after I re-enabled a bit of marketplace content, but that may well just have been a coincidence.
Same problem. I remove all files of the community folder and same problem. When I ty to load PLN files from EPB somtime the game freeze. When I launch again MSFS2024 the PLN loading file work. Msfs SU4 and SU5 same bugs.

I don’t have this issue now, but I did have in SU4 beta. I believe the hang is that the game is trying to send data to the xbox cloud on shutdown and for some reason can’t.
Thinking about this logically it might be worth checking your hosts file. I know that there is knowledge about a third party app causing issues on startup, so I am wondering if it, or something else, causes issues on shutdown.
Same here after SU5 final update. Need to kill program through task manager in order to return to desktop. Rebooting PC and restarting MSFS makes possible to quit again properly (few times until problem reoccurs). Seems that a reboot temporarily resets the problem. After “the freeze at quit” at least happened once since last reboot, no way to quit properly. If so, can reproduce it forever by starting program then just click “quit” immediately at welcome screen –> Freeze
No add-on in community folder, base installation. No MSFS related error in event log.
No freeze / hanging issues during flights.
I am having the exact same issue (with a 5090) and so are many others. How about a quick update to fix this issue??
A possible workaround here: If MSFS24 freezes on exit, this might be the solution for you!
I tried your suggestion, but it didn’t work for me. I tried removing everything from my community folder and still could not exit the FS. I tried uninstalling the FS24 and re installed it on a different drive, same issue. I tried deleting the wgs folder and same thing. MS needs to put out a fix for this soon….
This could be your control settings which get saved to the cloud. The only way to know would be to delete your control profiles until you are back to having only the None profiles. You could reinstall the sim, and you may get the last successful control profile from the cloud. But, I wouldn’t count on that working. If you don’t mind recreating your control profiles, that might be the way to go.
Getting the same issue since SU5 - happens in VR and when i exit VR.
I have done all that including uninstall and reinstall MSFS24 to a different drive, and removing my setup from the cloud. It did not work, still having the same issue. SU5 really messed things up. Even the Import/Export control profiles freezes the sim.

It must be another bug. I sure hope that there will be a fix for it soon. I, as I am sure you and many others have to go into the Task Manager to exit MSFS 2024 and it gets annoying after a while to say the least.
Well for me (I raised it originally in SU5 Beta) it just went away, with no obvious action triggered by me. Given the very small number of posts in this thread I would surmise its not happening to a huge number of users. It was frustrating when it was happening, and I would be really disappointed if it hadn’t sorted itself out, but I don’t suppose its anywhere near the threshold to get an urgent hotfix.
If I exit the flight to the main screen then use the GUI Quit to Desktop option it does not hang. But prior to SU5, I could simply select the X in the top right of the window to exit. Doing that in SU5 causes the sim to hang and task manager is required.
I have this problem now,
it looks like the sim is now not working correctly or access is very low. Also waited for statt of flight simply like never ending story. What a joke…
