MSFS 2024 Freezing/Crashing (DXGI_Error_Device_Hung)

As of today (07/06/2025) my sim has started freezing, thinking that it may have been a driver issue i rolled back the drivers to a known working one and left the setting untouched from my last good working session about a week ago.
That did not fix the issue, after about an hour it just locks up, even tried uninstalling the sim and installing it again, still not resolved and i know my GPU RTX 4070 is good as i get no issues with other games i play, so has something happened in the back ground with MSFS 2024

Actually this could be a Nvidia APP issue as i did get a APP upgrade this morning

Just out of interest have you updated either bios or Windows Update? I updated my asus z690 to the newest bios. 4301 and my whole PC started crashing randomly. Seems it is quite a common issue so reverted.
The other was a day or so later Windows applied 2025-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063060)
Now crashes exactly as you describe. Only in MSFS2024.
Again removed and barred this update and all is good again. After some research online it seems quite a few people are having the same issue in games and not just MSFS2024.

I had that exact error happen a couple of days ago.
Sting S4 (with several mods, including PMS50 GTN750, Bijan Seasons, and others) in a parking spot at KSEZ for an hour while I did some SPAD programming.
The Sting S4 is an FS2020 model that hasn’t given me any trouble in FS2024 in the past.

Win11 23H2
3090 Ti with driver version 572.83, no App.
GPU temp around 70°C (as usual)

I rebooted and worked for another few hours without incident.

I have the same problem since last Windows 11 update cumulative for Windows 11 Version 24H2 pour les systèmes x64 (KB5063878) (26100.4946). msfs 2024 and 2020 hangs. I can send the event viewer log. Thanks Asobo  :skull_and_crossbones:

That error is most likely due to EITHER a driver version of your nVidia drivers OR a Windows update. What I usually do when I get these (haven’t had them in MSFS yet though) is to go to nvidias website and download an older version of the driver and do a clean install of it and see if the issue persists. I’ve seen that many times it fixes the issue and the issue was with a botched driver (of which there are many from nvidia).

Seems to be dangerous regarding SSDs, see Windows 11 24H2: Does the Aug. 2025 update KB5063878 cause SSD errors? | Born's Tech and Windows World

Same issue today. Never had DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG in MSFS 2020 (installed early this year in Windows 10 22H2 Pro). Updated to SU16 and NVIDIA driver from 566.14 to 580.88 (without NVIDIA App) on 8.8.25. Did two longer flights last thursday and wednesday, no problem.

Sunday, I did a Win 10 Update:

KB5063523 - Security Win10 22H2 2025-07
KB5062554 - Cumul Win10 22H2 2025-07
KB5062154 - DOTNET 3.5, 4.8, 4.8.1
KB5056578 - DOTNET 3.5 and 4.8.1, part of KB5062154
KB5063706 - SSU

Today I want to start the same flight again, after ~2/3 loading, the sim crashed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, “Application blocked from accessing graphics hardware” and 0x887a0006.

Tried several things in the last hours, even update to NVIDIA 581.08 without success.
First solved by setting MSFS to TAA (but it lowers picture quality imho).
Afterwards solved by setting MSFS to DX12-BETA, so I can continue with DLSS.
Disadvantage: DX12 needs a lot more - not to say double - VRAM as DX11,
so I hope, the 12GB of my 4070 SUPER will be sufficient for longer flights, I will test this the next days.

If I remember correctly, although SU16 and its content updates were installed, I got another (SU16 ?) update that was very small, I wondered and installed. Maybe this “second SU16” (or whatever it was) bricked MSFS 2020 DLSS with DX11.

My build of parts of the last decade:

Ryzen 5 1600X

4x 8 GB DDR4

MSI X370 GAMING PRO MB

500 GB SSD

RX VEGA 64

…..

MSFS 2024 was working wonderful. Every evening I relaxed with a flight… Then one day I tried to connect my TV via a HDMI Cable as second screen (To show my child). My screen is connected via DP. It did not work, my PC got mad, and I left the try. AFTER THIS I HAVE THE ABOVE ERROR. TRIED EVERYTHING I READ ! Please Microsoft: DO something ! …. Even I told my mom that I was more in rage then many people talk about ego shooters.. Now I have to relax with Far Cry 6 or Death Island…

Did anybody experience this behavior after using/switching the GC-Outlet ?

I want to fly again…. Everywhere…..

Or is it just because I use it in XBOX App with GamePass Ultimate ?

Same occurred to me. Reinstalled everything but still CTD every time. And the curious thing is that FS2020 works as a treat, not a single problem.

The other strange thing that happens is that when I’m on the flight screen, and select an airport, this won’t load, or sometimes it loads after an eternity.

And up until 4 days ago the sim was working just fine!!!
