MSFS 2024 Started Freezing Every Launch Today Not a CTD but I have to kill it manually though task manager, everything was working flawlessly up until today. I have tried everything reinstalled the sim, drivers, verified and repaired the files etc. Any ideas?
make sure your community folder is empty and try, All my Compatible addons had to be removed because i was having the same issues. MS is working on compatibility problem now.
Ok will try that! Iām glad that it is a known issue that they are hopefully working on!
Doesnāt seem to be fixed yet, still have not been able to get in today.
Out of curiosity, do you happen to use a Thrustmaster TCA stick?
Nah. I have fixed it so all good now!
how did you fix it?
Same hereā¦ experiencing random freezes since last weekend. Vanilla installation (no mods/addons). Only using MSFS_AutoFPS. During mission select (carreer mode), mission loading (carreer mode), mission taxiing (carreer mode, no penalty), flight end/unloading (free flight). Random, complete lockup of the application. Everything else is running just fine.
@JBAviationYT Care to chime in on what helped for you?
I figured my cloud save data was corrupt. So what I had to do was go into C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData, and make a backup/copy of the wgs folder Once you have done that disconnect your internet and delete the wgs folder. After you have done that follow these steps that I found from another user in the forum:
Step 1: Enable Offline Mode (MS Store Version Only)
If youāre using the MS Store version, you need to make the game capable of running offline first. (For Steam users, this step might not be necessary, but again, I canāt confirm.)
Follow these steps to enable offline mode:
- Open the Microsoft Store and click your profile image.
- Go to Settings and turn Offline Permissions to ON.
- Launch the game once to ensure itās set up to run offline.
Step 2: Disconnect and Remove Cloud Data
- Disconnect your PC from the internet.
- Locate and delete the cloud save files.
- For MS Store users, these files are typically located in:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\SystemAppData\wgs
- For Steam users, the folder (if it exists) should be in a similar location under:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\
and possibly\SystemAppData\wgs
(If someone with the Steam version can confirm this, it would be appreciated!)
- Delete all the contents in the respective folder.
Step 3: Reconnect and Launch the Game
- Launch the game while still offline. It should prompt you that an internet connection is required.
- At this point, reconnect your internet.
- The game should now restart and take you back to the initial setup screen.
Basically what this will do is complete reset the game. You wonāt loose your logbook hours, career progress etc. Because we are not deleting it. We are basically removing the wgs folder which will bring you back to the initial setup screen of the sim. Then if you have lost the controls profiles and or logbook hours. Exit the sim and copy the wgs folder that you backed up back to the Systemappdata folder and overwrite the files. On the next sim boot up it should prompt you to select which sync to use, select the one that say āOn this Computerā and that should restore the data from the backed up wgs folder that we replaced.
Do take caution when doing this though as it is not guaranteed everything will be restored. I was lucky that everything had restored and my freezing issue was fixed. My issue was the sim was freezing on the accessibility/start screen so I couldnāt get into the sim at all.
Thanks for the detailed instructions! In the meantime I had removed and reinstalled MSFS24 which also fixes the problem. After a few flights it was freezing up again though. And indeed, removing the contents of the āwgsā folder also fixes the problem.
I didnāt have to disconnect from the internet and do the offline stuff though. Just make sure everything is closed so the files arenāt locked was enough for me.
Whatever it is thatās corrupting the save data is still present though. I can do a handful of missions, but the freezes are back after a little while.
msfs 2024 freezes every time when changing to a different menu after a flight. Have to use task manager to close it.
I cant find this on steam?
Mine is now freezing anytime I try to do something from the main menu. Yesterday, I tried to get into āMy Libraryā and the circle just kept revolving. After that, I canāt do anything except get to the menu.
Steam Directory should be this: C:\Users<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024\SystemAppData\wgs
The last few days MSFS 2024 started freezing up quite a lot. Basically I always have to end the program using the task manager. The sim starts fine, I am flying the helicopter challenge (gold level). Landing on an oil rig in the Red Sea. That works, but when I try starting one of the other challenges, go to World Photographer or just exit the sim afterwards, it freezes up.
I have not tried the suggested solution yet. I am trying not to get into the habit of manually cleaning up or editing files, that I normally shouldnāt have to touch. I will wait and see for a bit. Before that MSFS 2024 has been pretty robust for me. On Monday, 2024-01-13, I still managed to fly all three challenges for this week.
I am also suffering from freezing in midflight now. I just did fresh reinstall because of another problem with addon in ms store which is not compatible but is listed as so. Very annoying.
Same here different airplane and also have to use task manager to close. Will switch to 2020 again.
Hi.
Would anybody be able to help me. This is happening to me on every flight. Iāve tried the above steps but Iām still getting sim freeze after about an hour of flying.
Kind regards
Same issue, happens almost every other flight for me over the past few weeks with the inibuids A350 and the fenix a320. Most of the time it happens on climbing out of an airport or after about an hour, will get some audio stutters and then the sim just freezes with sound still running, so I have to manually close in task manager. I think it may be related to rolling cache as after deleting rolling cache it stopped happening for a short while but it starts freezing again anyway after a few flights.
Edit: Never mind, just deleted rolling cache and it happened again after 5 min into the flight.
Also to add, on loading lots of times it will either freeze or CTD without any errors. The freezing happens about 25% of the time I try to load in from the world map, so I have to then manually close and restart the sim.
Hi Everyone.
This is still happening to me on every flight.
Iād tried disabling the XMP profile on my memory and even a clean install of MS2024 with the only addons being the Ini A350, Ini EGLL, and GSX and BATC. I guess Iām going to have to try with a completely clean community folder and see what happens.
Please note that this happened also in MSFS2020 with the Ini A350 today but this issue started happening before Iād purchased the A350.
Iām suspecting BATC or the sim itself as Iām not sure it could be GSX as it usually happens around 1-2 hours after departure.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
