MSFS 2024 Major graphic and audio stuttering in VR

Hi, I need help. I only use VR and am not a Beta user. When I first got MSFS 2024 early this year It worked fine (i9 14900 and 4090) and most of my experience with flying in VR was OK. Like others, I messed around with the graphics settings etc to try and get the best results I could but having use both X Plane and MSFS 2020 I knew it would never be perfect. Then Last week I started up in MSFS 2024 and after only a few minutes of flying I experienced severe stuttering both audio and graphics. Took my headset off (Quest 2) and noted all was ok in flat screen mode but as soon as returned to VR it was there again.

Tried all kinds of adjustment to the graphics setting but to no avail, even on lowest. I then decided to uninstall and reinstall the graphics driver (latest from Nvidia) This made no difference. Uninstalled and reinstalled MSFS 2024.That too made no difference. Tried to research the issue on the web but nothing could be found that replicated my problem. Some suggested that when reinstalling MSFS 2024 an MSFS folder inside the user folder would not be uninstalled and needed to be deleted prior to obtaining a clean reinstalling. This I did and performed a second reinstall. To my delight this worked and MSFS was now OK in VR. I was elated, however this only lasted for about 20 minutes before the stuttering slowly began to return (not micro stutters but major) until it was so bad that the sim was impossible to use. I noticed that the stuttering varied in intensity depending on where I was looking i.e. to the side or in front. Now every time I try to use MSFS 2024 it is initially OK but after only a few minutes the major stuttering starts. This has made the Sim unusable for me.

Please could anyone advise what I can do to get it working as it should?

I can’t offer any help but I can share your pain as I am having the same issue. (i9, 4090, Varjo Aero). VR was working fine for many weeks (with the usual known issues, of course) but last week noticed stutters creeping in and getting increasingly worse. And, as with you, very major stutters (audio and visual) when looking around and it nearly stops when I look at certain instruments! I thought it may be my PC but hopped into MSFS 2020 and all is working perfectly. As some have said, and I am begining to agree, go back to MSFS 2020 if you have it and maybe the issue in MSFS 2024 will get fixed at some point. I am not prepared to spend hours and hours trying to debug the thing. I already did that in the early days of MSFS 2020 and after a few Sim Updates it became a stable and an enjoyable sim to use. MSFS 2024 has great potential in VR but it has a lot of fixes that need to be done before it is workable.

Not sure if it’s related to your problems, but I also started to experience stutters early last week in VR (Quest3 - VD) in 2024 (Beta SU1) . Tried all kinds of adjustments, but eventually solved it by turning off HAGS, Optimizations for Windowed Games and Game Mode.

Hi, my suspicion is that due to the timing of this issue it may be related to the recent Nvidia driver updates. I am presently on ver. 572.42 and previously on 572.16. That l was updated on 30 Jan 2025 and this was around the time I started to experience the stuttering issues. I updated to 572.42 when it came out a few days ago hoping it would have fixed the said issue but It did not. The Nvidia app will not allow me to roll back further that my last driver 572.16 which I feel may be the culprit and I dont have the know how to roll back the driver any further which would either prove of negate my suspicions.

Just use ddu and nvcleanstall to get old drivers. Ddu to ensure you removed all the residue. Nvcleanstall drivers are stripped of all bloathware and recource eating items.

Welcome to the stutter club. My stutters come and go. First flight is good, 2nd not so. Stutters sometimes start right off the bat. I just stick with FS2020, 2024 needs some MAJOR work.

If you don’t want to rollback to 566.xx driver, you can continue to use 572.xx by disabling the Fauna option in the VR graphics settings. Of course this is only a workaround and we need an ultimate fix by the Devs since this is clearly a bug of 2024 with the latest drivers

As many said, its an issue that is rising as you play. In the beggining it feels ok, then it starts to push towards the boundaries of you VRAM whatever GPU ypu have. Its like something is growing like a cache thing or something that chokes performance in VR. I think that the same also applies to flat screen. DEVS should address that issue cause VR community isn’t as low as many think and its growing. So Asobo keep VR performance in mind. We have invested in high end hardware (GPU, CPU, RAM, VR goggles) to play that game and you let us down. I mean at the end of the day that game costs more than 3000 usd / euros / whatever currency, for us to play, and even then we cant. Its unfair to say the least…

I’ll put my name in the hat as well. Mine only does it when you take off then when you get to circa FL200 it stops. Landings have been OK as well. If I do a second flight from a different airport it seems OK. Well strange.

Turning off HAGS does not work for me

Thanks. I’ve tried too and it does nothing.

Turn off Fauna.

Rolling back Nvidia driver to 566.36 solved the issue for me

Accidentally installeld the 472.xx version. Major stutters and audio crackeling on my vd and quest 3. Fps from steady 40 fluctuating to 20 al the time. Installed 466.14 and stuttering was gone. I am on TAA do dont use dlss

Yes rolling back to Nvidia 566.36 fixed most stutters for me, thanks!

Disabling RBAR seems to stop the main annoying stutters you see when looking in certain directions for me.

Because of all these issues, I went back to 2020. And now over the last week and the recent Nvidia update I’ve been getting terrible stutters and CTD’s in 2020!
WTF???

I read this tip in this thread (turning off Fauna) and I can confirm, that it also worked for me. :+1: The really bad stutters and audio issues are gone.

I had my first successful flight in months. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hi, I never had stuttering before, but it all started after something I modified in the registry. I had found something about enabling some stuff that would increase performance dramatically. Of course, after experiencing these problems I had no time to be on the sim for long, and now totally forgot what was the tweak I did (my bad, I know).
I really don’t know how to go back to my old register values (dll swap?)
