MSFS 2024 - Premium Deluxe vs. Aviator?

I want to buy MSFS 2024, but I’m torn between getting the Premium Deluxe vs. the Aviator Edition. Is the Aviator edition worth it? If it is worth it, is it better to get Aviator at purchase or “upgrade” later?

That depends, but I have seen that upgrade price is always bad compared to getting it in the first time.

Now whether the aviator edition is worth it or not, many will tell you it’s not, some will tell you it is. But here is the thing, if you want to purchase the aviator edition just for 1 or 2 aircraft in it, then its not worth it. But if you think you are going to use a significant portion of those aircraft, for example 6 or more, I am not sure about the actual count, then it will end up being worth it.

But you should keep a few things in mind

  • first of all aviator edition planes are all available in MSFS 2020 as separate purchases from marketplace, so if you purchased them in MSFS 2020, those are already available to you in MSFS 2024. You won’t need to purchase the aviator edition

  • if you decide to keep using MSFS 2020 for some reason, those aviator edition planes will NOT be available to you in MSFS 2020 even if they are available in marketplace. You will have to buy them for MSFS 2020 seperately.

  • if you are not sure about whether you will want to use those planes or not, it may be worth to wait a bit. MS had committed to make their first party planes available at a trial / rental basis in MSFS 2024 marketplace. I am not sure whether this feature have been made functional yet since I still use MSFS 2020 exclusively, but it may be worth it to get a Gamepass subscription now and try MSFS 2024 and try those planes in marketplace. Then if you find that the value proposition is working for you, you can decide for yourself whether it’s worth it or not. Ofcourse this route will cost you a little more. But it may save you from spending way too much unnecessarily.

Hope this helps.

I would also suggest that it is likely at first, you don’t think you want to use some of the planes in aviator but later on when you become more familiar with things you may regret not getting the whole package. Buying individual planes end up costing the same in the end and who knows what price point microsoft will pick for planes or base product once the beta testing is over.

Anyhow in the end the $£’s are yours to spend and enjoy. Go with that gut feeling!

Aviator owner here (sad).
All dlcs are trash. Full of bugs. No updates since day1.
It’s a better option to trash your money.

Are those just the Aviator specific dlcs that are trash, or is that all or most of the Premium Deluxe dlcs as well?

Thank you. This is great advice. I will need to check MSFS2020 marketplace, as I expect to still play MSFS2020, at least until MSFS2024 matures and fixes bugs.

My biggest concern with getting Aviator is wasting $ on planes that are not MSFS 2024 quality. If the quality of the planes are good, then its a slam dunk. If they are not, then it’s a waste of $$.

I decided to go with Premium Deluxe. There are maybe 3 or 4 planes on the Aviator list that I’d fly on a regular basis, and I already purchased one in MSFS 2020. Ironically those are the highest rated planes.

This is what I did most the aviator edition planes I wasnt really sold on apart from the atr wanted the c17 Saab 340 and ch47 tho which alone was enough to justify the upgrade

Since the OP has not yet purchased, let me say there is another decision to consider: Xbox store or steam version.

I had the Steam version 2020 and switched to store version for 2024. I did not loose any of the many purchases made through steam in the 2020 marketplace. These all imported into the 2024 game store version. I did not have to buy them again to use them in 2024.

I’m sure it works the other way too, going from store 20 to steam 24. You won’t lose anything that you already purchased for 2020.

So, as you decide which version (store or steam), don’t worry about losing stuff already bought for 2020.
