MSFS 2024 refuse to start up - This happens also for MSFS2020

Just to add that rolling back to 566.36 did not fix the CTD while loading.

I rolled back to 566.36. Continued to have the failed start (after looking like it was starting). CTD. Then, uninstalled the Nvidia app. Normal MSFS2020 start returned to normal behavior. Reinstalled 572.16 manually, not using the app. Regular loading continued to work.

Freaking Nvidia app!

Just uninstall the app, that’s it.

Cheers!

Yep. Kept both my sims running following this same advise. Bugs? yes,but I’m able to use it most 100% crash free since install. FF is my choice atm. I’ve not tried anything else. Maybe why, but If I change anything from the core file settings they provide with the sim, I’m excepting the risk and complaining to myself only. I’m not interested in the tweaks for this very reason. You’ll tweak every day there’s an update anywhere, once you start doing so. My problems are easy to find because of this. When it acts up, I go fishing and fly when I get back. Mine fixes itself somehow when I do so. CTD is rare for me.I may be wrong, but I credit this for my success with both sims. It’s good to be a PC dummy sometimes I’m thinking. I’m glad kinda, my PC wouldn’t power up if I tried the simplest things here posted with my skills. Just too many things involved to not have issues once that starts. I’ve found the less I change in values to the core settings has produced the best results here. To each their own, I’m flying today and enjoying the sim with moderate settings on a store bought PC with no modifications to the core sim. Not bad I guess. Now to figure a way for my bad sim days to not line up when the weather is ā– ā– ā– ā–  for fishing? That be nice

Happy to help.

DDU has also helped me many times. I use it to uninstall GPU drivers, as well as Sound Blaster - important is DDU also removes registry entries

so having the same problem I think as the OP - so only in MSFS 2024 the game seems to start and then quickly shuts down (was running ok I think last time I tried it 2 weeks ago) note I have MSFS 2020 also (its running ok) and I have tried a driver update (still have the same problem) never had the app on my pc but have geforce experience- note have a similar behavior on a couple of other programs (game called delta force (reaches the launch menu then shuts down after this) and also in an app for the minicockpit software(sometimes just seems to start for a couple of seconds then shuts down like 2024) - any suggestion or would you go for full DDU reinstall?

If you haven’t added tweaks like DLSS Tweaks to your games and CTD appeared after installing new Nvidia driver, it’s worth rolling back to an older driver version, such as 566.14. You should also uninstall the current Nvidia driver using DDU in safe mode.

actually no tweaks added - also only thing is I had not played for a couple of weeks (msfs 2024) since then the game was updated maybe updated (thats the only change) and then when I ran it with the older drivers I had 560.94(didnt work) then updated the driverto 572.16 (still didnt work) - strange thing is most of my games run ok (on steam) but noticed a similar behavior with delta force (quick CTD after trying to launch it) - so would you uninstall my drivers with DDU and then install the latest drivers (572)or the set I ran previously (560.94) - note after the uninstall assume the PC will still restart ok without drivers? then you just hit the .exe on the drivers to install them?

Not only games require updates, but also Windows itself, so it’s worth checking. As for the drivers, they may have become corrupted so it’s a good idea to uninstall Nvidia driver using the DDU in safe mode.

FYI, latest Nvidia drivers (572.16) have been causing many CTDs – I haven’t seen so many reports of CTDs from various players on this forum in a long time.

Before uninstalling the driver using DDU, please download an older version of the driver and save it to your disk.

thanks shall give it a try - also have a couple of final questions:
1)what’s the easiest way to enter safe mode?
2)in terms of the DDU options pages(general and nvidia) would you suggest just sticking with the default selection?
3)do you suggesting removing physX (the remove box is not selected in DDU options) and would you not reinstall the nvidia app or geforce experience when you reinstall the drivers? (note was using geforce experience to install drivers previously)

It seems to me that the easiest way to enter safe mode is to click Start, hold down the Shift key and click Restart.

thanks shall give it a try final 2 questions
1)Assume the above are your suggested settings?
2)Also in terms of doing the clean install - assume the only thing you will ā€œloseā€ is any specific game settings you have in nvidia control panel and any video settings - or are these likely to be recreated when you install the new drivers?

Yes.
2. By uninstalling Nvidia driver, you will lose all driver settings, including the game settings you had in the Nvidia Control Panel.

Im experiencing the same issue discussed above. I tried everything… now I’m running the Dec 5 2024 NVIDIA driver version 566.36 and sim is still crashing as soon as the Asobo logo appears on startup.

I don’t want extra FPS, or smoother graphics, I just want to fly career mode. This whole DLSS 4 messed thing up nicely. If anyone finds a solution to this issue please let us know.

thanks - intend doing the driver reinstall today - also managed to find an event log related to the crash (just checking its consistent with the issue being driver related)?

In your case, as well as for many others, the application responsible for the CTDs was Nvidia app. Nvidia app and new Nvidia driver is one of the worst in recent years. It is causing a lot of CTDs in many other games as well, such as No Man’s Sky, Tokyo Xtreme and many others.

thanks - out of interest which part of the event log points to nvidia drivers? - also please note I have not got the app on my system just the earlier (geforce experience) also I had the CTD with the older nvidia drivers 560 and also the newest 572 - assume the suggestion is still to reinstall the drivers as suggested and do not install the geforce experience or the app on my system after the reinstall?

I’ve mentioned multiple times that Nvidia app in some cases is the cause of the CTDs. It’s up to you whether you choose to install it or not and it’s also up to you whether you install Geforce Experience.
I’m not pushing you either way

thanks - will not install either - final question! - when running DDU (win11) would you suggest disconnecting the internet or is that really just for win10?

Hmmmm…think I’ll fly today…see what happens. This sounds scary. Have not had any issues like I’m reading here in MSFS 2020 at all. Flew yesterday again with no issues. I guess only difference is, I decided to uninstall MSFS 2024 altogether some time ago. Have not changed anything with Nvidia at all, still running app. Hmmm…
