Our Twitch streams are set to 1080p/30fps/3 Mbps. Unfortunately, because MSFSOfficial is not a partnered account, it doesn’t have access to Twitch’s real-time transcoding feature (which allows viewers to lower the resolution as an individual user preference). We could reduce the resolution to 720p or 480p, but I don’t think that would be preferred by the majority of our viewers. If your bandwidth cannot handle the stream, then perhaps watching the VOD on YouTube might work better for you? I know that’s not ideal, but you can still submit and vote on questions in advance.
My bug logged issue NOT Acknowledged at all completely ignored for the Xbox users. Live weather not happening at this hour , clearly false , is their a reason for this kind of behavior of ignoring this community? Xbox/PC screens go black then CTD
Wow. I know about this and I’m just a semi-retired guy living in the Midwest. I don’t do achievements, never have tried but there’s TONS of threads on this issue. To be this unaware as a leader is just jaw dropping
Thanks for the explanation. Did the account lose its partnership about 4-5 months ago, because since the very first Q&A back in August 2020 and until then I could select lower resolutions (down to 160p) just fine. Or if not, is there any chance that a partnership could be established? Many official accounts that I’m watching, even by indie studios, have transcoding enabled so a Microsoft account not having that option sounds quite strange.
Can you check whether it’s really 3Mbps, because Twitch reports 5,5-6Mbps in the video stats, and my connection was maxed at 6,3Mbps the whole time during today’s stream. I understand why the resolution shouldn’t be reduced, and during fly-ins and flight lessons a higher bitrate is important of course, but I’m thinking that for these Q&A sessions a lower one would work fine even at 1080p.
Twitch provides real-time transcoding on a “best effort” basis to non-partnered accounts. That’s why sometimes it might be available and sometimes it won’t be. Partnered accounts always have real-time transcoding.
The MSFSOfficial account has never had Partnered status on Twitch. To achieve that, one must monetize the channel and earn significant revenue for Twitch via subscriptions and bits. We have no intention of doing this with our official channel.
@Jummivana can confirm the settings for the Dev Q&A today, but all our other streams (such as flying lessons and Community Fly-Ins) are always set to 1080p, 30 fps, 3 Mbps.
Understood, thanks. I’m wondering whether YouTube could be considered as an alternative, they seem to provide transcoding for everyone, and it would also come with the benefit of all VODs getting automatically archived on the official channel.
Anyway, this is what the Twitch stats are showing for me in the VOD from today’s Q&A, and the other two VODs currently sitting on the channel are no different. Bitrate stays at ~6Mbps, and sometimes goes up to 7,3Mbps or so.
Part of the confusion is that Achievements that once worked were broken with subsequent updates. For example, “My Way” was broken with the release of SU5. SU5 was launch day for Xbox. So for Xbox users, in this particular case, it is true to say that from their perspective, the Achievement never worked.
Going back to the “My Way” example: only 0.07% of users (probably Asobo employees) have the Achievement.
When less than one tenth of one percent have the Achievement for doing something tens of thousands of pilots do every day, it’s not a matter of being “tricky” – it’s bugged and should be fixed.
ow, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there aren’t any issues, there very well might be. I just countered the ‘they never worked’ part. (I’m also not an Asobo employee )
Like many parts of this sim, things aren’t equal for everyone using them. There are people that try to get them, but can’t. In other cases, people get them without actually doing what you’re supposed to. I’ve experienced both, particularly the latter.
I got the deadstick landing one while at full power climb.
I got On The Green (for landing on a grass strip) in the Longitude at flight levels over the Mediterranean.
I got the SIDS and STARS (for landing at all star airports) and I can quite assure you I’ve yet to land at all the required airports. Not even close
I got Job Shadowing without ever creating a flight plan based on a real world flight.
I got Flights of Fantasy without ever flying 300 miles in an airliner (spent less than 30 mins in airliners since the sim launched). I remember that one popping up when I was doing circuits with a 152.
I’ve not used any assistance in the sim since a couple of weeks after launch. ALL turned off. Still have to receive the My Way achievment for doing an unassisted 300 mile trip (I do those almost daily).
I could go on. And I’m not the only one. There have been literally dozens of threads about this since launch. I’m not alone on this one.
Again, I don’t really care about meaningless acheivements either in MSFS or any game. I just noticed these things were broken early on, were getting reported, and nothing being done to fix them.
EDIT: The acheivements I know I’ve gotten legit for sure are my flying hours. I just got my 1000 hour one a couple of weeks ago. And those are the only ones I marginally care about.
For what it’s worth, I’ve received most of my achievements simply by sitting in the main menu doing nothing, while not having done anything to meet their requirements. Considering that and the wiping logbooks, it’s really not worth relying on the game itself to track one’s progress or accomplishments.
I don’t care a lot about statistics and achievements either, but I am rather surprised these aspects did not get polished in advance of the Xbox release.
But so many of my addons have been broken on Xbox for up to 4 months. Now they are talking it can take up to 6 more months for things to work? That’s almost a year with non-functional addons that I have spent money on that I can’t use. I expected that some things would not be available to XBox. I didn’t expect things would be offered, I would pay for them, and then not be able to use them for almost a year.
Yes.I accept that this is VERY complex software, and that things will get missed, but it is noteable how much time is spent in the Q&A sessions basically doing marketing of upcoming stuff - always new planes etc - and how little time is spent on feedback about bugs and the desperate work which is needed on them.
I had heard that SU8 was to be all fixes and no new stuff, yet in yesterdays Q&A a lot of new stuff was also mentioned for SU8.
I feel we deserve more effort on the bugs which ruin the sim experience - CTDs, 2-5fps frame rates on long flights.
They say they can’t always experience these problems for themselves. Well I have reported them ad nausium for almost 2 years, and not once has a dev ever contacted me for more info or to get me to test a scenario to further the bug finding. Not once.
Nor is there any proper follow up process to check with the bug reporters whether their problem was actually fixed or improved. So the bugs get ticked off as fixed when they are not, and we are back to square one in trying to get the attention of the devs to fix the same old bug again.
I’m afraid that I took that to mean they, basically, don’t pursue these issues if they don’t experience them themselves, which helps to possibly explain why they persist.
Someone really could do to organize the bug hunt/report/reproduction/regression testing process here at the user end — provided they are truly serious about wanting our input.
They did task Jayne with what sounded like a more organized approach to bugs here in the forum, so there’s that.
I genuinely don’t understand how people can be bothered about achievements not working properly when basic things such as the live weather is totally broken.
I mean the METAR is saying Overcast at 900ft, yet this is in sim… What is the point of the new METAR system??
