MSFS: Live Dev Q/A January 26th Discussion

Good news, lets hope that the next will be Italy and Greece.

Depends on what you consider “great importance”, but it’s wise to remember that these Q&As for a large part are just showcases for future development with the actual Q&A at the end, this time thankfully extended after Jorg wanted to continue answering questions.

For me the work on the Propeller stuff was very exciting and that starts with SU8.

You must know that usually only 10% who own a product are interested in these Q&A sessions and usually those who have a problem with the product…

Very true, there was barely 700 viewers when I watched at the start, not sure how many will watch the repeats but like forum users the actual percentage will be very low compared to the actual total number of users.

Devs therefore rely on news websites, social media etc to spread the word and get it out to more people but even then it Will still be a fairly low percentage.

More realistic physics of course sounds great yet more of the usual revealing new stuff before fixing the old new stuff. More moving parts to break. Such dismal viewing numbers shows a sign of peoples disinterest potentially, users are basically tuning out. Some of these numbers aren’t making much sense to me given the “alleged” million plus sale numbers.

We get it they didn’t address your pet issue. I’m sure it’s really important and it must be so hard living with it but try to look on the bright side.

We don’t even know anything about what else is in SU8 which is still primarily a bugfix update, so don’t get too disparaged quite yet. Jorg also noted the next update will focus on stability improvements so there is that (though I’m one of those who rarely experience crashes).

It does bug me though that they revealed some really innovative stuff coming up which will elevate the flight models significantly and pave the way for a very realistic helicopter (and glider) flight model in future. But no…it seems people just want to plug their ears and complain about ‘poor flight dynamics’ and lack of improvement till the cows come home.

I expected some discussion about that major feature reveal in this thread but it’s just the usual whinging about their pet bugs. What did people expect Jorg et al to even say for most of this stuff other than “we’re working on it”.

These QnA sessions are hype builders and a great insight into the future of the sim. I honestly tune out and shut it off when it comes to the QnA session as I couldn’t care less about the major ‘bugs’ they keep addressing, I know they’ll get fixed eventually Jorg, Seb or Martial saying the same thing isn’t that helpful. From the impression I get they aren’t that keen to jump into that part of the session either.

I’ve got the boxed version. I’m not sure if this version has achievements, but as they appear to be purposeless then either way it’s not going to make any difference to how I use MSFS.

The vast majority of people don’t watch developer stuff anyway, regardless of the game. MSFS is the only one I occasionally bother to watch the Dev stuff on Twitch and then only when I happen to see the post in time. Most people just play the game and read patch notes when an update comes. And given bow many people you see asking about changes in the lobby of an online game I think many don’t even bother reading patch notes. I wouldn’t use viewership of a Dev Q&A as a guage of user numbers or interest for the software.

Plot twist. New “major feature”’ wrecks the plane he’s been flying, which so far has apparently escaped issue. “Pet bugs”‘ is modified to “ongoing legitimate concerns” in all subsequent posts.

That new major feature is always so shiny but these “pet bugs” are getting very rusty.

I am not sure what you mean ? I heard the comment about some work being done by third party devs on the software side, which I guessed referred to the great work done on the NIS implementation by mbucchia and cpty lucky.

I’m an adult though and will probably just shrug my shoulders and fly something else in the sim until it gets sorted out. Plenty to do without getting hung up on something that you have no power to change.

Case in point losing the ability to right click drag after SU5 was annoying, I was disappointed that it didn’t get resolved after several updates but I learned to work around it and now I honestly couldn’t care less if they fix it or not. At some point you’ve got to ask yourself is it really worth getting so worked up about?

I’d rather get excited about new improvements and features than cling onto things that annoy me, but honestly you do what makes you happy.

It took 6 months to fix the colourbanding introduced in SU5, so for my own sanity I’m keeping my expectations very very low for a live weather fix after SU7’s Metar mess. I don’t believe the idea of allowing us select between Legacy Meteoblue weather and New Metar/Meteoblue was addressed?

So yeah, since the colourbanding fix I’m back flying again, and to be fair I’m enjoying my flights, but I’ve added live weather to the list of things I now no longer use. Most of my flights are short and I fly slow so I go to the Meteoblue website to check the weather at my departure point and apply a preset accordingly. I accept that the weather won’t change much during my short flight.

My fear is what will be next to add to my sadly nolonger used list.

I am inclined to agree with you. We used to call them “The Silent Majority” back in the day.
But generally I think that most folks in the PC and gaming worlds are fairly apathetic when it comes to digging deeper into the technical side of things. There’s probably a bit of wariness as well as self-flagellation involved, too.

Even here: Silence , very sad and disappointing,…

Yes it sure is .. It’s the silent treatment for daring to ask about something game breaking for many users .

And I’ve had several been awarded when I’ve not actually competed them.

Well, I’ve watched this now for the third time, to be honest I don’t know what I expected.
I think there are more positives than negatives and I do think, genuinely, that they want to stabilize things and there are some great new things on the horizon like the world updates and some new planes and effects. I hope the DLSS technology will bring in performance gains.
I don’t think I expected anyone to throw themselves on their swords for the issues over the release of GOTY edition and they didn’t, but they did acknowledge that there have been issues. I thought Jayne did a good job of presenting it. I’m looking forward to Australia, Iberia and SU8 I hope the beta can iron out any wrinkles and that there are not issues like in the past.

I’m glad they addressed the multiplayer ghosting when you get close. My group has switched back to FSX:SE for formation flights until this gets sorted out. Hoping the button toggle can get implemented soon.

So they spoke of DLSS. What about FSR for all of the AMD users???

I have an open zendesk ticket where bush trip achievements are broken. So yes they are for some of us.
