MSFS - mandatory Update, but MS Store says "upgrade does not work on this device"

Had a frustrating few hours unable to fly a plane.

MSFS saying mandatory update - OK.

MS Store saying “upgrade does not work on this device”

Used the forums for trouble shooting, covering windows updates, nvidia driver updates and feels like 8000 reboots.

Then I saw something about XBOX app - ignored it, I don’t have it installed, I don’t need it, I don’t use it.

At the point of uninstalling, reinstalling, I chose to install the XBOX app from the MS Store.

And look at that, update now downloading.

There is NO prompt to this, there is no consolidated post or help article.

So, I post this here, so you don’t hopefully waste as many hours trouble shooting that I just did.

Pretty frustrating, given I have no need for XBOX app on my PC. But it is now working.

There’s about 50 posts telling people to use the Xbox app. It’s also listed as a fix in the “known issues” link. https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360016027399-KNOWN-ISSUES-Last-update-Sep-8th-2021-
Regards

I hate to say it, but you do now.

Xbox app options settings:
set to remember login, set to run at start up, set to run minimized.
Then forget about it.
You can always turn it off easily from your task tray if your bothered by it…just start it again before starting msfs.

Really no different than using Steam (for example)

I wasted 4 days before I figured this out, and finally was able to fly late today.

This update system is absolutely Stupid! I have a PC, Not an Xbox. I have no want or need for Xbox ■■■■. My Xbox 360 stands alone as does my PC.

I can agree to your frustation notice it myself.

One way to avoid wasting four days is to use the Internet.
