Thank you vey much for confirming!!
Here the counterpart. Also UK, no VPN.
apart from all the other evidence, this alone should prove that something is majorly wrong here!
i love microsoft but if things will be this unfair to devlopers and simmers there is no other option than to boycot the marketplace at this point.
ill only stick with buyiong firectly from the devlopers from now on and nothing more!
untill microoft fixes this. and im calling out on all of you to do the same.
The thing is: for us developers it doesn’t matter in terms of revenue we get from MS. They actually pay out the same amount to devs no matter how much the customer pays and MS pays the difference.
But it is unfair for the customer and subsequently affects the developer too because it can lead to less people buying the addon as it seems too expensive for them. Which, in both of these cases is the case as it should cost 13.95 GBP. This is the price we set it to (17.99USD)
This addon is on sale for 12.99 GBP on other stores and we set the price a bit higher on MP to account for Steam and MS commission. But MS charges even more than what we set it to.
According to MS their goal was to bring the Marketplace prices more in line with other stores… Yeah… well done, I guess.
@xWimma Thank you for making this post ![]()
You have obviously spent a great deal of your own time investigating this in the interests of your customers and to highlight what would appear to be unfairness in the treatment of customers in certain countries. I have never heard of RW Profiles to be honest but I have to say that you are on my radar now.
It comes as no surprise to me that the UK is once again almost at the top of the list for being charged the highest prices too. That said, many other countries appear to be treated unfairly. How can this be fair?
I have said this before and I will say it again. This is really not a good look for Microsoft. Personally, it does not affect me very much. Hardly at all in fact. I buy almost all of my addons either direct from the developer or from third party stores. I don’t think it is fair though to customers who have no option but to buy from the MP e.g. Xbox simmers.
To be honest, I am tempted to fully boycott the MP altogether. A pretty useless effort I know in trying to persuade MS to look at this again. That said, all of this is leaving me with a really bad taste in my mouth.
Are they both on the same platform (Steam or MSStore)?
Next week they will host a stream with the people from Market Place, this should be raised in there.
I don’t know. But it also shouldn’t matter because the additional steam commision is subtracted from what we devs get and therefore shouldn’t impact what the customer pays.
MS Store for me.
While you can argue not to use the MP and buy direct, this could prove a major problem for 2024, if aircraft you can use in career mode HAVE to be from the MP.
I know Jorg said it may be possible to use aircraft in the Community folder if they match the MP version, but he couldn’t guarantee it!
You make a good point ![]()
I hope, though, that ‘good’ third party sellers will ensure compliance. If this is a popular request from customers then I am fairly confident that a lot of devs will be accommodating.
I remember back in 2020 Steam and MSStore had different pricing, then people complained and they fixed. It might be that again.
Not to beat the same drum, but as usual, this is not an option for Xbox users, unfortunately.
I think as console users, we accept that we have more limited choice and options than our PC pilot counterparts - that definitely gets harder to accept if it’s a price ‘lottery’ on top of that.
I guess that depends on whether aircraft have to be ‘allowed’ in career via some check mechanism when submitted to the MP, or if a third party dev can add the necessary compliance in the aircraft config? I believe it’s the former, but not 100% sure.
But not on XBox. If a simmer has enough money, they will often have, or upgrade to, a PC and many users do buy direct, for a number of reasons. However, console users are restricted to the MP.
I know many forum users dismiss this and just argue that if they’re serious enough they should get a PC, but it effectively rules out all those younger people and others who do not have the means to do this. Do MS want to encourage this demographic or not?
For transparency, I’m on PC and buy from both the MP and Devs.
EDIT: noticed that EejayX posted about XBox as I was typing my reply.
That was before we started selling so i cannot comment on how it was back then in terms of payouts. But again it doesn’t add up if this was still the case because we gett less from steam sales (Steam commission). So if that was the case the customer pays more and we get less, creating an even bigger gap.
In any case, I want to stress again that this is not at all about how much devs get paid. I am purely interested in the customer experience and am baffled by the various different prices customers, even from the same country, have to pay.
All I want is fair pricing for addons for all users and, most importantly, that customers don’t have to pay more than what devs want them to pay.
I am guessing the latter i.e. that the third party can provide compliance outside of the MP.
I don’t know though. Like you, it’s only a guess ![]()
The explanation to all this ist fairly simple:
Microsoft uses an AI driven pricing system which has gone haywire. ![]()
I personally don’t think that is the fairest way (I’m a PC simmer to).
I don’t even think that MS want simmers to move from the Xbox either ![]()
The xbox app is already available on lg and samsung TVs. Probably going to be the nail in the coffin for any potential future xbox console.
Interesting. I guess we will see.
They are a captive audience, with no choice. Never going down that route myself as there are too many restrictions.
