MSFS Mobile Companion App - Map, NAV, AP and more [New Freeware Released]

Can we make our own themes for this ? I want to change up the pages a bit and show a bit more data. Mainly a button box with some data such as current alt speed and trims. I know we have pages but the don’t fit well on my tablet and i want to specifically have a real time trim data output as auto pilot always seems to screw trims.

The project is completely open source: GitHub - mracko/MSFS-Mobile-Companion-App: Mobile Companion App for MSFS 2020
You can change it however you wish. Of course, it won’t be a simple drag and drop exercise, but changing or creating custom layouts only requires a little bit of HTML knowledge. I can assist you with with the rest.

Hi I made my own little overlays for twitch with the same thing you are using. I might now need to combine them all together. Thanks! I didn’t see the source was in py-connect.

Hello. I got two older Apple iPads (Gen2 + Gen3) for free… I want to use it with this nice Mobile Companion App over the webserver, but it does not work correct  I can not see a map, it is always a full grey screen. All other things like, NAV, COM, AP, PANEL etc. works fine. What is wrong? Thanks!

The problem may be in your Mobile Companion App sequence. The map will not show any data until after you load and open your flight. I don’t open MCA until I have opened MSFS, loaded and opened my flight. Also, if you are having problems and MCA is open and MSFS is open and the flight is running, try restarting MCA. It may have some old information. Hope this helps.

Hi @MRTNAIRLINES!

I’ve already had some users that reported issues with older iPads not working correctly. However, I haven’t been able to troubleshoot those issues because I don’t own any older gen iPad.

In addition to what @ReliableSteam82 suggested, I would also do the following:

  1. Try changing the map layout to OpenStreetMap using the upper right icon. The default Stadia layout has issues sometimes.
  2. Try downloading a different browser. I’ve had similar issues on older Android tablet that I was able to resolve with the latest version of Chrome/Firefox.

Let me know if this helped.

Thanks for your answers… I always start my MSFS first and when i am in the simulator main menu, i open the Mobile Companion App and my webbrowser. All works fine on my second monitor and my LG G6 phone. For testing, i used also my old Nokia 6 phone, my old Samsung Galaxy phone and my two laptops… With all this devices, i get the webbrowser and a correct connection. Only with the iPads, i have absolutely no connection. I thought, i have NAV, COM, AP, PANEL and only no MAP, but i have no connection to the Webserver. The url is correct!!

Seeing the question marks in picture 2, I can confirm that it’s an Apple/Safari JavaScript incompatibility with older devices. This means that you will be able to push buttons, but you will not see any data coming from the sim into your iPad - therefore you see the ? and no map. You are not the first user reporting exactly the same issue. As I said earlier, unfortunately, I don’t have any old iPads so can’t check it myself. Try installing a different browser or check if JavaScript is enabled in your browser.

OK, thanks… But i can not install another browser on this iPad 2 and iPad 3 with iOS 9.5.3. All browsers need a higher iOS version. I also can not install apps in the Apple Store

I do not have the option in the upper right corner, to choose the map layout. There is nothing to change on this older iPad.

I know… :see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey::see_no_evil_monkey:

That’s unfortunate. I didn’t know that. I guess, Apple does this intentionally. I was able to get the Mobile Companion App running on a 7-8 year old useless Android tablet (which, by the way, was terrible when it was released).

Maybe you could manage to sideload a newer browser, but I have no idea how this is done on an iOS device and if it’s even possible.

Found mod late last night, gotta quit watching real G3X op vidy’s…
Cursory test and seems to work well with VL3 and 915 mod. About to go fly again.
Also no issues running FS pilot concurrent on PC and android.

I do have 1 question, read/ edited setup.txt file but just let it and the exe in the dl unzipped folder (the mobi folder moved to community), and it worked to my surprise (the export of flite plan).
So, a little confused as I must be missing something upstairs… anyway, where should the txt file be? just kept in same folder as the exe?

edit. forgot to mention, kept g3x mod in community and it still works alongside with this mod.

Great engineering around the problems getting data out of MSFS and TY : ))

Thanks for the feedback @Dddaddddy ! I’m glad you like the app and that it’s working fine!

The setup.txt file should be placed in the same folder as the EXE. It doesn’t matter where the two files are located, they just need to be in one folder together.

Btw, I didn’t have much free time lately, so I haven’t made progress with the app since December. Nevertheless, I’m planning on releasing an update once SU8 comes out.

Look forward to it. I’m old retired engineer and would take me time to get up to speed but I can offer you some of my time if you need something done. Currently testing some stuff, where would be a good place to send findings?

Mobile Companion is my favorite app. I use it with all of my airplanes. After MSFS SU8, however, I have noticed that the buttons in the app are not working correctly. They activate the function, i.e. turn on or off landing light, nav. light, etc., but the app button never changes. The button stays red to indicate the light, for example, is off. The autopilot seems to work O.K. I have tried this on 2 different airplanes and it’s the same on both. Hope it’s just a minor fix.

I too have noticed some weirdness with some of the switches. I think this is partly because the app monitors the switches to reflect the switch being turned on or off. But if the app toggles a switch that is on my HC Alpha, the switch and app are out of sync. Also, some aircraft don’t have all the lights in the app. Overall I think the app works very well for most features.

@ReliableSteam82 and @PacificSet90456 : Thanks for letting me know! I will have a look at it next week. Unfortunately I didn’t have time yet to test it with SU8, let alone update MSFS.

What would help is if you could let me know which specific buttons on which planes behave this way. This would speed up the troubleshooting process. Thanks!
