MSFS @Nvidia Special event

Was good to see this platform on the event and it was the last thing advertised in the video

proper triple support?

When I saw it I thought they would announce DLSS and Ray Tracing support for MSFS. :joy:

Same here I was looking out for that as well! Oh well its time will come.

They’ve said as much. Can’t happen without DX12 though, and that’s scheduled to be released when the Xbox version launches. Though I wouldn’t expect to get RT+DLSS at the same time, but who knows.

Since this was played during the nvidia event, I think they are already working with nvidia to bring dlss and rtx support to the pc version.

Which is something I am well aware of but I do not think that was the full point of the video

Did you notice any stutters? If not, I wish they would share the secret.

A link to the video vs a screen shot would have been more helpful.

Much like Asobo’s “in engine footage”, they’re obviously not running the same code base of the game that the rest of us are if they’re getting frame rates like that across 3 monitors. Most people can’t get frames rates like that with a single monitor, 10900K and RTX3090.

I’m skeptical as well, especially since that video made it to look like all that was running from a laptop.

Exactly. But it’s not like companies fake things to make their product look better, right?

And that most definitely wasn’t nVidia Surround, because the views of the side monitors weren’t all warped

I did see a weird laptop from CES though, it has integrated graphics, a dedicated internal GPU AND an optional external GPU. Maybe a thing like that could run it? not sure.

Weird though that NVidia basically killed off SLI, and then they release laptop stuff that must basically be the same.

The external GPUs don’t run in multi-GPU mode with the internals SLI style. The external replaces the internal GPUs when you need that horsepower. When you’re not connected to the external, it’s the same as laptops have been for years. It uses the integrated GPU for low power workloads to be easy on battery, and kicks in the dedcated when you need more horsepower.

And they admitted they use a different build.

But they do run on PCs that you and I can buy or build.

I know. That’s what my comment was based on. It would be really nice if the versions of the game we paid for would look and perform like what we see in the promo videos or trade show footage like this nVidia video.

The nVidia 3000 series mobile GPUs are a HUGE downgrade from their desktop counterparts, unlike the mobile 1000 and 2000 series which are in the same ballpark. Yet in this video they’re showing a laptop running a triple screen setup at a level of graphical fidelity we can’t even come close to achieving with the game on Ultra at a level of performance that’s unattainable even with the best desktop hardware money can currently buy.

As much as I love this sim, whenever I see said footage, I’m always left with the rather unpleasant taste of “bait and switch” in my mouth.

Hard to disagree…

Isn’t the mobile 3080 supposed to be similar to desktop 3070 in performance? Performance in the trailer didn’t look stunning to me, I would be surprised if it was a lot more than 30 fps. And 30 fps is certainly attainable, even at high res. I did try a triple-monitor setup in MSFS very briefly and performance wise, it was perfectly fine (Ryzen 5800X, RTX 3080 at 5760x1080). Looked awful though (side monitors were incredibly stretched and nauseating) without the proper support.

Yeah. Pushing 1 monitor is 1 thing. Rendering 3 screens worth of data is another thing altogether. They had perfectly fluid frame rates in that video with 3 screens where it would be jittery on a single monitor for the majority of people even with high end hardware. Of course, the video itself is at 30 fps so all we know for sure is they’re maintaining a steady 30 on 3 monitors. I’d be happy to maintain a steady 30 with my my mixed high / med settings on a single monitor.
