MSFS Pop Out Panel Manager (with Touch Panel Support)

@RoastGnu!

So I’m tryin’ something here, and I’m not sure if it is even possible. What I’ve got right now:
JD’s GTN 750 replacement mod for the PMDG DC-6, with the goal of lobbing that at my RealSimGear GTN750 housing with your POPM so that I can actually use the touch screen features! I mean, that’s kinda why I got the 750

So - my problem has come to scale. JD’s mod will put the 750 in the place of the (GNS 430?) that you can select in the little airplane tablet. It fits nicely inside that GPS housing, but when I then pop it out to my RSG housing (600 w x 800 h), it only takes up the middle of the screen, sort of like the old “wide screen” VHS tapes where you’d get the black band on the top and bottom.

I thought, well, I have the PMS GTN750 anyway. Maybe if I can get the aircraft to start up with that window on the screen (but not popped out), I could use POPM to tell it where the window was located…and bingo-bango, right? right? no. :frowning: I tried with the aircraft powered off and on so that the PMS GTN750 is lit up, but my guess is that because it’s not a part of the panel somewhere, POPM isn’t going to be able to use a “R ALT+Click” on it. Is that correct? Is there maybe some trickery we can try to get it working?

I set up the 737 and popped out the 4 main screens. I moved then and hid the white caption bar then locked the panels in Place. So I am not sure how to execute something that pops them out again in the same area without the white caption bar.

Hi RadiatedFan5488,

I’m not sure about your question. If you have your profile all setup, during your subsequent flight, you should be able to manually start pop out and your 4 panels should move back to your predefined locations and white caption bar hidden. Or you can bind your 737 aircraft to your profile and have the panels automatically pop out when your flight starts.

Ok that might be what I am doing wrong. I will try it again and also look into the binding option

How do we get performance out of pop outs atm? It still halves with dx11, dx12 is not as bad with the su10 beta but that’s got stuttering issues due to the ongoing nvidia memory optimisation patch. Any tips?

There’s nothing that can be done on our end to fix that performance. It’s up to Asobo. They had fixed it on the initial SU10 beta (.09) in both DX11 and DX12. This regressed with the following SU10 betas.

I don’t think we’ll see a fix for this until they properly roll out DX12. Assuming they don’t mess something up in that final release.

This performance regression with popouts was a real kick in the nuts from Asobo. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, but it still hurts. To finally fix a problem we’ve had since launch and then to revert it back. Ugh…

Yeah I feel you , been such a bummer. Lets hope the nvidia fix gets sorted before release

Well, they announced in yesterday’s devblog that SU10 will launch next week along with an nVidia driver update. If this “new” DX12 version performs like it did in the initial 1.27.9.0, we can expect about a 5 fps drop when popping out windows compared to the current 20-ish loss. I’ll consider that a win for us who need this feature.

On a related note to show the difference in performance with and without popouts - last night I was flying the C152 around Los Angeles out of the new KSMO payware airport. Since it has no popouts, I was getting 35-40 fps on the ground, and upward of 70 in the air over the PG-heavy Los Angeles and Burbank areas. It was a wonderfully fluid experience with very little signs of stutters and no pausing.

I tried it again with WB-Sim C172 mod with the GNS units and KAP140 screens popped out. I was getting frame rates in the 20s on the ground and the stuttering was horrendous. I was only maxing out at 40 in the air, although most of the time closer to 35. It was reasonably smooth most of the times, but I was seeing a lot of stutters when looking around with my TrackIR. The difference was VERY noticeable.

I can’t wait for this issue to finally be put to rest.

Hi all,

Version 3.4.3 has been released. Below are the new feature:

  • Added ability to remember MSFS game window size and location for aircraft profile when running the game in windows display mode.

  • Added ability to include in-game menu bar panels such as VFR Map, ATC, Checklist, etc to aircraft profile. During the pop out process, if any in-game menu bar panels are in popped out state, they will be included in panel configurations.

  • Added UI cue to show number circle momentarily when popping out panel.

  • Fixed an issue where touch does not work for panel when using full screen mode.

Please see change log when updating the app for more information regarding all the new features above.

As always, if you encounter any issue with this release, please do not hesitate to report it and I’ll do my best to provide hotfix ASAP.

Happy Flying,
Stanley

Ohhh… this is interesting. Will it also enable touch support for the menu bar windows? If so, that means that the PMS50 GTN750 would be able to be used on any plane with an AP but no GPS…

You’re correct, this feature was explicitly developed for an user who wants to use menu bar version of PMS GTN750 with TOUCH on an unsupported plane and gives another option for user who wants to use some GTN750 touch functionalities in their flight. With latest SU10 beta, MSFS seems to be able to remember the “pop out” state of a menu bar panel and reopens it when flight stars, POPM can then take over from there for location, size, and touch. But there is a design issue with PMS GTN750 plugin that default pop out has the title bar hidden which I was able to overcome with few lines of code change. Below is the instruction to activate this experimental feature for PMS GTN750.

On the other hand, with v3.4.3 of POPM, menu bar panel such as checklist, ATC, etc can be popped out onto a touch monitor and it will work. I’m using touch enable checklist on my spare tablet with Spacedesk.

Very well done, good sir. You’re doing amazing work here. Thanks for this.

@ScorpionFilm422 - You may be interested in seeing this if you’re not already aware. Your GTN toolbar version can now be “popped out” and used with touch screens.

I will check that but I’m afraid that displaying the header may produce some side effects with css unless Asobo changed the way to manage the header.

Yep that was probably me suggesting that because an earlier version without touch used to be able to do the placement and sizing but we lost it in one of the updates. Glad it’s back with touch to boot although I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. I have been using the menu version with my steam gauge AM panels for the Baron, Bonanza and Caravan. Gives those aircraft a whole different experience.

I’d been using the TDS GTNXi in my steam gauge planes, which worked quite well.

I have the C152 mod which adds a KAP140 to the C152. Using the TDS as a GPS makes for a pretty bangin’ little 152. I’d honestly prefer to use the PMS50, so this is a good thing as far as I’m concerned. Although I haven’t tried it as of yet.

I just cant get this to function. im using triple screens and start panel selection and cant click on anything in MSFS…if I click outside the windows I get circle numbers galore…same issue I had 6 moths ago? any fix or we cant use with a windows mode??

It’s not windowed mode because it works fine if I run in a window.

thanks…very odd then i click the pfd and nd and no numbers appear if i click anywhere outside they appear

Please try running Pop Out Manager in administrator mode. I’m not able to reproduce the issue on my PC no matter what I try. It must be something on certain PC that is blocking windows from drawing on the desktop or the code I use is causing Windows to block window draw access. The number circles are actually tiny window that got created on desktop as you click a spot.

I was wondering if you could tell me where the file location for size and position of VR pop outs like Navigraph and ATC are located in MSFS 2020. I assume you know this based on your work. In P3D I was able to edit the files and create permanent positions to my liking for all my VR windows but can’t seem to find the file locations in 2020 or the particular lines of code to edit size and position.

Thanks for all your great work.
