MSFS SU16 - aggregation of complaints about poor LOD, bad colour, low resolution blurry terrain textures

I don’t know, I don’t have it but i’m told almost everyday its better than 2020….

Is simulating human movement really necessary? I’d rather have a more attractive environment than pointless, useless animations.

even at just 3000 feet with high texture resolution and 200 TLOD the ground just looks so bad compared to before. everything is way too green and artificial looking, the extreme blurryness of ground textures just makes me no longer enjoy this sim. every time i take off and look outside i instantly see blurry ground textures it just puts me off, was not like this before, textures were crisp. i’ve lost most of my motivation to fly in msfs 2020, and msfs 2024 is unplayable so thats not an option.

1400+ posts in the 2020 su16 poll thread on this forum and 90% of them agree with you entirely.

Until (assuming they even care to) Asobo decides to grace us with any response or acknowledgment of what su16 has done, at least take solace you are not alone.

It is in a few ways, but not the textures I think. Some places do look better but some are just as miserable. But in general it’s the same mal, so should be mostly the same.

The 2020 downgrade was them applying the 2024 map after all, that’s literally what it was

And the pop in problem with scenery

One thing I’ve just found out, that might help some is that the “Lens Correction” setting had been changed to ON when updating to SU16. I know this because I always had it off.

Reason I’m calling this out is;

A) I had click spot issues, which seemed like the click spots were in a fish eye lense.

B) a Biggie, the images have gone a lot sharper turning it off.

Both of my issues with click spot and blurry images have been resolved (maybe not ground textures) but image clarity in general since tunring Lens Correction back OFF. BIG improvement.

I think human movement that is integral to flight simming is OK- like the guy guiding you into to a gate or parking space. That’s real. People walking around in a terminal, etc. is just a waste of effort and FPS.

The original game was working flawlessly, and the ground textures were all incredibly detailed. It’s still a pleasure to watch and reminisce about the good old days we had with Microsoft Flight Simulator, although it’s no longer a source of joy.

It’s looking really bad.

When I search for my old 2021 screenshots, I’m just amazed at how much MSFS has downgraded in terms of textures.

It looks BAD today, and after SU16 it’s WAY WORSE.

And, as always, Asobo doesn’t acknowledge the problem and won’t move forward. It really feels like an attempt to push the sim toward “end of life,” reducing server load and forcing players to move to MSFS 2024.

So sad to see such an amazing game downgrade like this after 5 years… I don’t think I’ve ever seen software downgrade its graphics and performance over the years. Usually, it’s the other way around.

I just wish they would do what DCS does—keep moving forward with development, improving the sim engine, making it better and smoother, without selling new versions or downgrading the graphics.

Next devstream has been announced. Every single person concerned about this ground texture issue should post their corresponding questions here:

For those who haven’t seen, I recommend checking out the developer stream which occurred just 4 hours ago at around 12 minutes in, here.

Really happy with the outcome of how this issue was checked, acknowledged and responded to and great to know that a fix / re-consolidation of higher quality world textures will be worked on.

Thanks Asobo/MS for listening and acting on this.

Moderator Edit: added a link to the relevant section of the livestream.

Has the developer stream where Asobo/Microsoft stated that the blurry texture issue has been identified and addressed been moved or deleted?

I’m afraid we won’t have any corrections or changes before next summer, unfortunately.

I was hoping for a 16.1 update fairly quickly, but it never came.

The 16.1 update is already here and is currently in Beta, but it only fixes a handful of conditions that were causing crashes in 16. For anything beyond that, we’d have to wait for SU17, and there’s no telling when that will be announced and/or what bug fixes or feature improvements will come with it.
