For the past week or so, MSFS2020 doesn’t exit properly. By this I mean the executable remains open in the Task Manager, and I must right click on it and kill the executable in this manner to completely exit the sim. If I don’t do that, when I try to restart the sim, I have an error message saying it is already running.
Is there an easy way to fix this ?

Have you attempted to reintall the sim ?
(I am tempted to do that but it’s an extremely painful process so if you have already tried that and it didn’t solve the problem, I might as well save myself the trouble).
I’ve had a number of issues with the sim in the past 2 weeks. This is a bit unexpected as I had been blessed with very, very few issues since launch in 2020. Was one of the lucky ones I think.
Reinstalling doesn’t fix it. Please refer to the thread I posted the link to.
Ok thanks just see your above post and the thread you linked, It’s 360 posts and haven’t read it in full but yes ok read that reinstalling probably won’t solve it.

I have to kill MSFS2020 sim to close it. That is the new way to shut-down the sim, cool! Thanks to Task Manager I can close it.
But when you shut down your PC, Windows is supposed to close all active application…so MSFS too
right ?
I don’t know to who you are asking but if it’s to me: yes, of course.
But we don’t always want to shut down our PC before starting a new session of MSFS.
And some of us use Sleep mode etc.
