[MSFS2024] Boeing C-17 Globemaster III

Is there option to turn off a second pilot being visibile in the cockpit? He’s there although I turned it off in general options (character customization). I’m on XBX.

Yes! There is a small clickspot on the copilot seat, near the centre console (there is a small handle in there where the clickspot is located). This will hide the copilot.

Beware this is not persistent, meaning that you will be required to click on every flight to hide the copilot.

Regarding Xbox in particular - further investigations lead to the following:

  • Low FPS is generally caused by the downloading/loading of textures. After all textures are loaded, the fps will stabilize. Once cached, you should have smooth FPS.
  • Now, another issue seems to be affecting Series S in particular - FS24 now handles the memory consumption differently to prevent CTDs: textures are scaled in real time to prevent CTDs and manage memory better. However, if memory is not sufficient, it will then start killing some of the displays to save resources. As you may imagine, the C17 is very complex, with several display instances running at the same time, and a good handful of GBs in textures to load. This may, under some circumstances, prevent the systems from working correctly.

This generally would be addressed by uploading a separate “Xbox build” that has reduced memory consumption in various areas to avoid systems from being affected. At this time we have not been provided a way to upload different streams for Xbox/PC as we generally do in Marketplace - we are discussing with MS/Asobo. This may also be partially resolved in a future update, as it is affecting other aircraft as well.

I tried to start flying this bird in the air just to test it out, but it just took an uncontrollable nose dive and “burned in”, in the parlance of Top Gun Maverick.

Is it supposed to be possible to start a flight in the air with the C-17 or do we need start on the ground?

Air start isn’t a problem on my end - just tested.

Any chance you give it a try again and report? May be a one-off error

Also, in my case, check your throttle mapping. By default, only throttles 1 & 2 were mapped in my settings. As a 4 engined aircraft, when I first took this for a spin, I nosedived to the right as only engines 1 & 2 were controllable. So check the mappings,if you haven’t done so already.

Looks great… I’m waiting until the launch issues settle down before jumping in to 2024. This bird is high on my list of first to fly. Is MilTech planning on implementing OBIGGS functionality at any point. I don’t see it mentioned on the roadmap either way, but I do see the control panel is modeled.

The panel overhead is modeled but we do not plan to add any sort of functionality to it (you press the buttons to extinguish the lights and that’s it - no other function associated)

OBIGGS is used to prevent catastrophic failure, which is not modeled in the aircraft and beyond the scope due to manufacturer licensing agreements.

I’m still trying to get all my settings and key bindings set up for 2024 but this is the first aircraft I’m going to try. It makes me feel a lot better seeing just how responsive Miltech is here! Looking forward to the first flight.

Will this be available to purchase separately? I think I read somewhere that will be possible, but not 100% on this.

I’ve got the MSFS 2024 standard edition via Game Pass but this is one of the few aircraft from Premium Deluxe which I’m interested in.

From what has been announced - yes. However, only after MS Marketplace opens, which we don’t know when its going to happen.

Thanks for the response

feedback on the c17:

  1. the cockpit is sized too large compared to the avatars (assuming the Asobo avatars are real world scaled). the c17 cockpit is large but the not to this extent.
  2. cockpit scale is apparent in VR, everything is huge!!! VC should be scaled down by around 30% to be size proportional with the frame of reference (Asobo avatars).
  3. cockpit gauge backlight (analog gauges) knob is missing?
  4. for the copilot figure, please use the Asobo copilot.

The cockpit is modeled to scale to the best extent possible - in MSFS the external and internal 3D models must fit correctly, and the cockpit is modeled according to that. There is always some degree of variation and uncertainty from the real deal (plusminus 5%) as we have limited access to 3D scans and measurements. The external model is accurate in dimensions to the real aircraft. Apparent VR scaling can be adjusted by adjusting the World Scale slider in MSFS - there are a number of variables (camera FOV, position, etc.) that may affect the apparent scale of the cockpit in VR.

Cockpit backlight knob is modeled, however, the backlight itself is not modeled - planned for a future update.

The copilot figure is not Asobo, and this is intentional - we have no control over the type of copilot that it spawns (eg. it is always civilian clothing), which we consider is an immersion breaker on a military aircraft. The copilot can be hidden by a clickspot located on the seat near the centre console. Keep in mind, the copilot used here is approx 6ft 1, you may use that as reference for the scale of the cockpit.

Amazing aircraft! The only problem I found on my first flight is that some of the checklist items don’t highlight the command and so it’s hard to find. Also, I found the clickspot to hide the co-pilot next to me, but how can I hide the one behind me?

Would it be possible in a future update, when spawning onto a runway to have the stabilizer trim automatically in takeoff range to avoid the warning? Sometimes one just wants to load in and throttle up!

1- I’m glad USAF Liveries are coming. Makes it more realistic for those of us in the States. I don’t mind paying for a livery on Xbox marketplace, tho not ideal but is what it is.

2-I didn’t read the manual since I don’t do systems or cold starts. But can someone please point me to the buttons that open the cargo doors?

3- the c17 marketing images showed it full of limos or a hummvee. How do you do that, is that career mode transport only?

We will review this, IIRC this is a problem with just a few knobs (ignition select for example), but will do a pass all of over them.

That one is required for missions, and IIRC there is a way to globally deactivate Asobo avatars in the sim – but can’t recall how. If I find out, will let you know.

On the EFB (NOT the MSFS24 EFB, but the one next to the pilot), Services tab. Make sure you have AC Power (eg. APU On or Ext Power) AND Hyd Pressure on systems 2 and 3 (turn AUX Pumps 2 and 3), otherwise the ramp and doors cannot operate.

Its all on the manual: Electronic Flight Bag | Miltech Simulations Documentation Hub

Same EFB, Payloads tab. Its all free-flight compatible.

Noted! Will configure it for the next update. Good catch
