On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being best), how do you rate your Overall Enjoyment of this aircraft?
The F/A-18E in MSFS is a ājockeā. Newly I had the opportunity to fly a VRS-Superbug in P3D. The Radar, FLIR, Radar Warning Receiver, Weapons, everything is working perfectly!
No doubt, the scenery of MSFS is better compared to the existing flight simulators. But after a while playing with MSFS is getting boring!
The aircraft handles poorly once it reaches 550 knots, extremely slow roll and pitch. It is not a gradual change but like a switch or trigger that nerfs the aircraft one it achieves this speed.
The flight model in 2020 was vastly different, the low altitude challenges were much more enjoyable with the old model.
Iām not sure if it is to be more realistic as the previous version may have consisted of a more arcade style model. But suddenly not being able to quickly maneuver the aircraft at 550 knots, being that at 540 knots the aircraft is like a precision scalpel, very much so interferes with the experience.
My throttle goes down right after I takeoff, by itself, then it goes back up when the wheels touch again, but itself. Throttles remain at full the whole time.
Iām very disappointed in this aircraft. As someone previously mentioned, once it gets to a certain high speed it maneuvers TERRIBLY and unrealistically. In addition, the roll (and for the a10 too) is way too stiff, there needs to be a little bit of inertia when the roll stops, like it slowly stops rolling essentially, or the roll continues just a bit after you finish it. I would love if these get fixed.
Great that the HSI shows traffic now thanks, but when adding an EFB flightplan from within the running jet using āsend route to avionicsā it doesnāt appear to work in the jets avionics, but pressing āfile plan with atcā the route appears on the HSI but no waypoints seem to be loaded in. Not what I expected and without waypoints obviously there is no CPL to steer.
On approach, cycling flaps back from full to 15% causes a right wing stall ?
It fails to slow down, level flight from 550 knots @ 500ft , throttle to idle, it simple keeps going and going and going and going like a gliding airbus. Only thing its not, its basically a flying brick compared to an Airbus and should slow down a LOT faster and probably lose altitude, with minimum control input, but no it just keeps its attitude maintains altitude and keeps going on and on, so immersion breaking - this just canāt be right.
It stalls while in moderate to tight turns at 180 knots ? A light load and it stalls at 180 knots ? you for real ? If this thing was real it would be the worst dog fighting aircraft ever made.
Performance is not accurate, a medium loaded F-18 without wing stores should be able to climb vertically to 30 000 ft; this dosenāt happen in game so how realistic is the flight model ? not very.
The F/A-18 can reach 1,915 km/h to 2,000 km/h (Mach 1.8) 1080 knots at high altitude where air resistance is lower. Iāve never seen this in 2024 sim.
this high and fast performance is for getting places fast, like from Nellis down to SF Bay area to deal with some threats real fast.
I am so staggeringly dissapointed by 2024, its waaaay worse than 2020 for the F-18 and it was promised to be better . i just cannot believe it.
I agree 100%. Theres also some weirdness with the FBW i think they should look at. Right now it seems like it uses airliner FBW logic which leads to some strange behaviors.
Fbw in FS is designed for airliners, unfortunately not fighter aircraft, this is why we get the strange bobbing around set altitude and why it engages 100% throttle even to speed up by a few knots. Maybe one day they will figure a bespoke fighter fbw model but as of yet it has slipped through the net
There is no conventional trim in an E/F. If youāre learning the E/F, do not mistake it for the C/D. They are different.
Think airbus or 787. Similar to these.
There is take off trim, one button push but thatās a little different. Hopefully the 2024 has corrected the -4 down t/o trim. Should be +4.
With the flaps down it will maintain target AoA, defaults to around 4.5 and adjusted using trim, target for landing is 8.1.
Only taken brief flights with the 2024 version, noticeable regressions;
Cannot start engines Cold and Dark, seems like it still wants us to āRight clickā the throttles to move them from Cut-off to idle, but that interaction no longer exists in the new cockpit.
Resolved above by deleting streamed packages folder.
AoA Indexer lights donāt light up, can only judge AoA on landing via E bracket in HUD
CRS SEL switch not tied to appropriate simvar, does nothing.
Otherwise feels pretty close to the 2020 version.
All testable AP functions work as expected, ATC maintains speed, all programmed MFD screen function as expected, UFC Waypoint/SEQ editing works as expected, Powered Approach Mode trims for desired AoA.
I am in VR, where details are more noticeable, and for me the interior is good vs FS20, the external livery is worse than FS20, more cartoony and less photorealist. I thought that in these times all would be photorealist and not still like cartoons, a pity, not too much improvement in decades for that.
As I was reading through this thread yesterday, I thought to myself, maybe I should tag the resident F/A-18 forum expert, Raynen, to add some clarity. Iām glad I left you alone
