I think you’ll chuckle at this ‘in the weeds technicality’
My assigned CFI wasn’t in the other day during my flight block, and the weather wasn’t VFR, so it was a good day to review regulation with one of the other CFI’s
The question was brought up about the control lock (if it’s required equipment) so I noted the following
91.205 (not part of “A TOMATO FLAMES”)
Section 6 of the Information Model (no mention of the control lock)
TCDS
The CFI was impressed, but he note that in section 2, the control lock does have a required placard. (Page 2-14, placard 8)
It got us talking about the wackiness that “why wouldn’t it be denoted in section 6 if it contains a required placard?”
It also made me comment (within MSFS2020/24) “I’m flying a plane that would not be considered Airworthy” (we both got a chuckle out of that).
(Think I saw this on the CPL 'nav by visual references lesson)
you’re teleported to the runway, engine in takeoff config, yet the lesson somehow is desynced to the point where if you start rolling, you get teleported back (a soft reset), but if you attempt to brake you have too much momentum and by the time you stop, you trigger the soft reset as well. This must have cycled at least 3-5 times,
(Have to apply fully back pressure, and full brakes to break the software loop)
I have lots of IRL flight hours in 172s many years ago and I agree, the model feels very realistic and is one of the best in 2020 and 2024. It has gotten even better over the past year too.
I think this might be a G1000 problem for all planes but affects the Cessna the most since it’s used in so many early missions and content:
The GPS system seems to not properly align, the map does not show the airplane icon but instead the white knob, which usually goes away shortly after startup once the satellite connection has been established.
too sensitive to wind. At each take-off my cesna is rolling to the left. my flight stick is well at 0 and rudder is also at 0. it starts at 40 knots. Don’t know if this is due to the wind as I have this issue each time. Then during flights, I have way too much sensitivity to wind. the cesna is moving a LOT
I’m wondering about the white knob instead of plane icon on G1000 MFD from the very beginning of MSFS2024. White knob is always with me during the flight with Cessna. Btw, white knob of MFD is also pictured in training section interface image. Maybe with purpose?
Aircraft performs well and handles nicely, both on the ground and in the air. Only comment is that I can’t seem to get the key binds for mixture adjustment to do anything other than cut the mixture to fully lean
That it goes to the left is perhaps normal due to the engine effect.
For my part, on MSFS, it is not simulated at all. My plane remains in the axis which is not normal.
My only gripe, albeit maybe nit picking, is the center dot on the right side Garmin map screen. There is no indication of the direction of travel, which means not being able to check references at a glance.
I wrote an entire list yesterday and will add it later, but the G1000 seems to be nerfed in career mode. No alt arc, no track vector, the magenta diamond on the HSI is incorrect, and there’s something majorly wrong with how it’s calculating groundspeed.
Is anybody else finding it very wobbly on landing, especially in a crosswind? I induced a couple high-frequency PIOs the other day with just a tad bit of rudder input. Small corrections, but it got very tippy very fast - almost as if the inertia went away and/or the nosewheel steering or rudder authority was over sensitive. Noticed the same on a few other aircraft, so it may just be the sim. I tried decreasing rudder sensitivity but it still tends to do it.
God forbid we’re in a tailwheel aircraft, doing the “rudder dance.”
Not necessarily a fan of the fact that the G1000 has the ability to pull up the weather radar in the 172: It should be strapped off in the aircraft configuration (you shouldn’t even be able to get to this page in the real thing):
WT Discord has been pushing toward reporting G1000 bugs in this forum - unknown if we should do a master thread of all of them, or keep doing them individually. I think a lot of them are inter-related. Maybe a mod can provide direction?
