[MSFS2024] Cessna 185 Skywagon

yup

It still starts…i just dies after a short time if you forget to remove them

I know this was posted and linked to another thread above, but that thread is now in the SU1 beta archive and not tagged “feedback logged”.

So here’s all the errors in the placard above and to the left of the pilot’s head:

Possible missing full stops (periods) are the markers underlining empty space.

We also have ANOTHER messed up OAT gauge:

Some of the key values align by number (-40, and 60/140), but the inner & outer scales’ tick marks are all perfectly aligned and make no sense.

We are still waiting for the C152 OAT gauge to be fixed since the release of 2020. Guess it’ll never happen.

Here’s how a real one should look for reference:

Haha, this is a good one

It looks like the gauge was designed by the same expert who designed manifold pressure and RPM gauges for the Aeroplane Heaven’s C-46.

Check it here and try to guess what do the markings mean?

That’s the difference between mimicking what you think you see (without paying too much attention to the details) and actually understanding what you are making and why.

It’s incredible. I can imagine how an artist can create something like that without understanding the purpose or the details, but it should be found in testing, especially for something so fundamental as engine gauges on a classic piston. Those are somewhat important, more so than the outside air temperature gauge.

Unlike bugs which can be hard to troubleshoot, these art issues should be simple fixes - albeit with a bit of recalibration required for the needles to line up with the markings (likely a 3D model setting).

Given the care and attention that’s clearly been used to make these generally beautiful aircraft models, these glaring issues are a real let-down which affects anything more than casual use in the sim.

Quantity over quality is the name of the game nowadays. New, shiny things to trigger the dopamine hit in the burgeoning flight simming community. Churn them out and move on, like fast fashion or the latest mobile. I find it sad, but I’m probably in the minority. (I also have a 6-year-old mobile phone, crazy, I know.)

This is but one symptom of the disease that has plagued MSFS since 2020…no attention to detail and poor quality control.

Yeah… you don’t need to even know anything about airplanes to know that looks wrong.. you need to have a I guess 2nd grade math level(? That’s when you learn times tables right? something like that) and/or have ever looked at a, well thermometer on the thermometer one and for the manifold pressure gauge, I dunno, a speedometer in a car, tachometer, pressure gauge of any kind, maybe an ANALOG CLOCK plus the most basic level of common sense… hm. When something goes by 5s, 4 small ticks in between the the numbers if it’s by 5, ditto for 10 but 4, 1 big one, 4. It’s just the basicest logic.

However, @blueline308, strongly disagree. C’mon don’t make Aeroplane Haven be the standard. We have A2A, Black Square, Just Flight, Fenix, PMDG, CAS, FSReborn all making ridiculously detailed planes and a plethora making ones that are close to those high standards. In fact, I wish A2A would be just a touch less of perfectionists and occasionally actually release something.

Also can people quit the crying when it’s not constructive like a small graphic fix on a thermometer, we’re not spoiled toddlers who didn’t get what they wanted for Christmas. I get it, I get it, it was a shameful release. I’ve heard about it enough, I do this for fun, sick of all the absurd negativity. 2024 is now incredibly stable for me. I can tell you the problem with 2024. It was forced to release too early because of the stupid title. Also, they let the engineers design the UI instead of hiring some UI designers. That’s literally it. Yes, there are some broken planes, imo all the default 2020 planes are dull and lifeless, if stable, without mods. Some of the 24 planes are fantastic.

24 is incredibly stable for me, MP and Career mode need some work. I’d say if they’d just released in May it would’ve been great.

Spot on. It’s like copying out the words of a language you don’t understand. Great if you don’t make any mistakes and the original source is correct but inevitably us humans do make errors and then having the understanding and knowledge about what it is you are making comes to the fore. We’ve clearly seen a lack of this understanding across the sim.

Exactly…It’s frustrating.

This whole conversation came from an incorrect graphic on an OAT(outside air temp) gauge. Which itself was probably just a placeholder from the modelling team, that got overlooked in testing or forgotten about on the punch list. It’s not even that the gauge doesn’t work. It’s being dissected down to the tick marks that denote the difference between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

A form of this topic came up in a wish list thread requesting MS/Asobo make a MD500. There are a ton of little details, that are not the same on every aircraft. Even the same model from the same production run. If you spend enough time, you can find something “wrong” or different from the aircraft that you’ve seen, or seen pictures of, on every sim aircraft. Maybe the modelling team had access to two different aircraft at different times. Then the model ends up being a combination that doesn’t really exist anywhere in real life.

This same problem recently lead the developers of the best freeware helicopter, the OH6A for DCS, to abandon their work on the MH6 indefinitely. The community can be very arrogant and ungrateful.

Everyone needs to remember that there are people behind the products they are using and stop to put themselves in someone else’s shoes for a minute. That is not directed at anyone specifically, but the overall attitude as a whole.

Yes, whatever detail may be incorrect. Post a bug report and move on. Remember that we are all human. Hopefully your bug gets fixed, but it is not an existential crisis.

The C185 is a fantastic addition to the game. It flies beautifully and fills that classic backcountry bush plane role that really shows off the strengths of MSFS2024…and it was FREE!

I do agree with the majority of your statements, anyhow the one I am not aligned and I cannot agree with is "… and it was FREE!”
This would be correct if you think my time is worth nothing, personally I did stop counting around 250 CTD. There have been much more.
This said I think that the “FREE” plane was well earned by a lot of people who spent their free time to troubleshoot, file bug reports, engaged with MS/Asobo aso.

The same way you rightfully request respect for the human behind the company I expect respect from the company towards me as human and customer. And the best way to show this is to deliver the best work possible. Right now I do not have the feeling that this is the best possible.
Anyhow I appreciate that they try to make up and improve the situation. Nevertheless I would have expected more from MS.
But that’s just my 2 ct.

No one is forcing you to spend your time on this. It’s a hobby, you can make a different choice.

Don’t expect everyone else to come along for the ride.

You are right but I have spent money on this product and therefore it is differnt to your example of DCS. The DCS was free, MS charged money for this.

And I do not expect that everyone come along for the ride. I just said I think the “FREE” planes have well deserved due to the poor performance and I do not see them as free.
You can disagree and I am fine with it.

EDIT: On a final note, my comment was more towards MS. I think the plane does make fun and give me some compensation, therefore it is not free for me. It does ad value to the game. Thank you MS, looking forward to the next two planes as compensation. And I do appreciate that you (MS) spent money to compensate for the poor performance.

Normally I’d just go into the texture files and fix them, sadly not possible with fsf24 :frowning:

The aircraft that MS is adding for free to compensate the launch is a different conversation.

I’m talking about the attitudes towards nitpicking details.
I gave three different examples of how I feel about the situation. Of course anyone of them can be cherry picked and used from a point of view to prove any point.

For a completely unrelated example, I have a pair of hockey skates that I spent good money on. The rust inhibitor coating didn’t last past the first sharpening. Do I complain about my skates being dull, or do I complain about them being rusty? Or do I just accept the nature of life and not expect CCM to solve this problem for me. I could get on their socials and rail about how shoddy of a company they are and they need better rust inhibitors, and how they’ve wasted my time and they owe me compensation. Sure, I could look at it as a problem, but I choose not to let it influence me negatively and put a cloud over the enjoyment of my hobby or recreation.

I put my time into this hobby because I want to and I get enjoyment from it. I’ve also been simming since the late 90s and have seen much, much worse. What’s new, from my point of view, is the sense of entitlement and negativity that seems to have permeated our passtime as of late.

edit: We should probably knock off this conversation before it gets us blocked…

Then things will never improve. If no one demanded quality, then there is no incentive for a company to do anything correctly.

That attitude that you describe is why so many things are half baked, poorly designed and fail at the worst of times. But please, keep encouraging others to not complain, if it makes you feel better.

You are proving my point.

You even cherry picked my quote and left off important context to change the meaning.

this is the recourse for quality issues.

edit: I’m concerned that this behavior is going to drive away interaction from those of us that have experience and truly want to help the community. Then all that will be left is the misery and it’s company. I know that I am very close to discontinuing to engage with the community. I will still have fun with the hobby how I want to use it, but I won’t engage and share my experiences any longer because it’s beginning to be exhausting.

Nah, don’t let anyone stop you from having fun here.

It’s like with MSFS. You can spend your energy being mad about the things that don’t work or are in a bad shape (like the instrument pictured above). Or -almost like you said- post a bug, contribute to a bug, move on and have fun with the myriad of other things that are actually enjoyable and fun in the sim - as well as in the real world.

Happy landings :small_airplane:

exactly
If you find yourself not having fun, step away and reassess.

Amen to that! (Especially the last part )

I seldom fly the default aircraft, but when I occasionally dabble, I get exasperated at the faults, omissions and, yes, even the typographical errors. I don’t go looking for them, but I do like to check out an aircraft and read some of the placards etc. to understand the aircraft better. Then I can’t help but notice, and it spoils the enjoyment. Visuals are one of the easiest things to check (and fix), vs flight models or avionics, therefore it’s frustrating that they slip through so often.

I appreciate that many developers and the modellers and artists they hire don’t have English as their native language, but lack of care still shows through.

A temperature gauge won’t stop me flying an aircraft, but it will detract from my enjoyment since I do actually look at it after loading up a flight, or when airborne to determine chance for icing and when to use pitot heat etc. If I can’t do it, I’ll likely go fly something else that works as intended, instead. It may as well be an arcade game otherwise, where the dials are for show and don’t even function!

A few other typos in other aircraft have been fixed, so there is hope.

There are any number of tools out there for proof reading, spell checking etc. or they could have engaged with a native English speaker to proof read it for them. That’s a task that can be phoned in while they work on other things.
