It shouldn’t have problems starting because of that, it should overheat at some point (high CHT, rough running and loss of power caused by detonation and pre-ignition due to hot spots in cylinders). But engine start should not be affected.
Edit: it is hard to see, does it cover the actual air inlet? In which case it shouldn’t start (unless the C185 has automatic alternate air), if not covered it should have no troubles starting.
I would also like to throw in my request for an autopilot. An aircraft like the 185 begs to fly cross country. An AP would be nice to have and many real-life 185s I see do have them installed.
I know I am being totally stupid but I cant seem to press “OK”. I’ve clicked or pushed every button on the Garmin and it will not go away. Any advice?!
That’s a bug that has been affecting GPS units in FS2024 across all aircraft since launch. Still, no fix apparently. The only workaround is to switch the avionics off and back on to reboot the GPS and to press OK again, once the boot up process is complete.
Can glass please be added over the instruments (like the temp gauge top right of cockpit), or if it is already there, make it more reflective. It’s a real shame for the visuals to be let down by flat matte looking instruments when lighting conditions should display reflections.
The Cessna 185 is very good addition, and I have to say that I prefer it to the 172. I find the lack of an autopilot no problem, it is a great aircraft to fly hands on. Most flying this type will be VFR anyway, VOR system works well and for the rest look out of the window. The scenery is brilliant in 2024, why waste it.
The one thing I have noticed is that the Nav lights or beacon seem not to be working, or they are very dim indeed.
Can I ask as a r/l pilot that enjoys flying gliders in FS2024 that the Cessna 185 be added to the line up of available of Tow Planes for aerotowing gliders in the sim. They are used world wide for this function and will handle with ease the heavier fully ballasted 18 meter+ gliders.
I am also looking forward to seeing some liveries that have seen a bit of life, I am sure there are some work horses out there.
Yes, the 185 is used for skydiving also. The first gliding club I was a member of shared the airfield with a skydiving club. They used a 185 with no door on the jump side. I tell you that aircraft had seen some life, fast climbs, and equally fast descents.
This is a bug/lack of realism on a few GA Prop planes in 2024, I know the 172 does this as well from another thread and yes it should start fine just overheat eventually. IRL it can be deadly if you’re quick to get into the air.
It’s a fun airplane, did a damage off session in it and went crazy above the Savannah airport in it, just to push it beyond what it could actually do, it can turn really fast for a no autopilot aircraft, climbs good and responds well
