[MSFS2024] Cessna 408 SkyCourier

Is there currently a way to put the 408 in “ground fine” as you said or is this not yet implemented? I still have to ride the brakes even though I’m in low idle with the inertial separators active. This makes it at least bearable on paved surfaces and pretty good on uneven/unimproved surfaces.

Not implemented.

Neither in the 408, nor the PC-12 NGX which has the very same problem.

They dutifully painted the ground fine range on the throttle quadrants, but it just sends you into ‘full steam astern’.

In career to save time, I input the departure, destination, and first waypoint. Once I’m on climb out, after contacting the controlling agency and getting flight following/ifr clearance, I add the rest.

Trying to clear through the medium cargo missions in career sucks. There’s the 408 with it’s bugs and never wants to speed up - i rarely get past 140 KIAS, the PC-12 which can’t fly above 18,000 ft, and the PC-24 which can’t turn once you land. Sad face

If you aren’t getting over 140 KIAS then you must be flying rather high altitude for the 408. That sounds like you are over 20,000 feet. You should be able to get to roughly 210 KTAS at most any altitude depending on the winds with about 70% torque.

I would recommend not flying so close to the 408’s maximum altitude of 25,000 feet. You can request a decrease in altitude if you forget before takeoff.

What do you mean by “clear through” the medium cargo missions?

…Completing the 15 medium cargo missions with whatever rating is required to move into the next level of cargo missions.

Thanks for the tip on altitude. I’ve been getting FL250 from ATC. I zoomed in on the bottom of the tape and saw i was doing 215 true. So i guess that makes sense.

ATC has a tendency to give you 1,000 feet above your filed flight level. I usually use something like FL160. Its not too high, plenty high enough to clear virtually all terrain, and its not an concern if ATC gives you FL170 instead.

Right now there really isn’t much beyond medium cargo except airline transport and the only thing really available to fly for that are the ES-30 and the 737 MAX. The ES-30 is a nice aircraft but only has a max range of 215nm so it only works for very short flights.

Heavy and super heavy cargo are not yet possible because the missions are not available and, for super heavy, the heavy airline transport certification is not yet obtainable.

In terms of monetary reward, the only thing I know of better than medium cargo is airline transport with the 737 MAX which, although fairly expensive to purchase, has much higher mission payouts.

Im getting a G Force alert on the 408 even before i enter the aircraft before startup.

That is a known bug. Please vote for it and help get it fixed.

I want to think that it’s not ATCs tendency but IFR rules. If you fly due west you have to go at even flight levels, while when going east you go at odd ones. If you file for fl180 and go east ATC will get you to fl170 or fl190.

I just tried the plane and this is still the current state of things. This plane is a hot mess, all of these issues are easily reproducible. Incredible.

Yeah it’s too bad they really have done my girl dirty. Still waiting for Carenado to decide to care about the module.

The sad truth is they got paid by MS to make this. Every hour of effort spent on improving it is likely unpaid, but hopefully included in any contract MS drew up.

I suppose that’s one major difference between an addon you buy from the MS store or external, and one included with the base sim. Future sales are not impacted by their decision to support it in the long term or not.

This is a Carenado product? I thought it was Asobo.

Yup, the 408 is from Carenado.

Which is why, in the beta, we don’t even have the G1000 fixes many other planes got yet (though, I guess, we’re lucky in that we didn’t get the regressions either).

Our only hope is black square or someone else does a realism mod which straightens it all out. I’ve reached out to black square but haven’t been successful. I ended up refunding whatever special edition had the 408 pretty early on. I actually didn’t even take off or fly the thing. I didn’t want it to contaminate my flows for when I fly the real thing. Big disappointment.

Well, problem with that is we don’t just need someone willing and able to do such a mod, we need MS to give us access to the moddable - read downloadable and unecrypted - files of the plane in the first place. And busy as they are with getting even the basics of the sim working properly, who knows how long that will take them (provided they do it at all).

So the options, really, are wait for MS to step on Carenado’s toes, wait for MS to release the plane’s files and the community to fix them, or wait for some developer or community group to build another 408 from scratch…

Shame, really.

As broken as it currently is, I love flying this big box from one end of Europe to the other in career and would very much like to dive deeper into its proper operation. Flying for 500nm with the condition in cutoff is only entertaining for so long…

here’s the SU1 changelog (i note the wording, which implies that they ADDED these bugs in the patch :D):

Had a (very) quick look.

Still some old and a also a few new oddities.

Engines still start with condition in cutoff (though now you don’t need auto-ignition and fuel boost anymore, just flip the starter switch and they start up automagically).
G1000 still has the dot on the MFD instead of an airplane and the format of fuel and electrical is even more borked than before, now with the numbers overlapping the map.

But still a good step in the right direction it seems. Makes me wonder why they didn’t let us test these changes in beta at all, though.

Will do a proper test flight later.

Still getting the white dot on the G1000 instead of the airplane icon

interesting, since Asobo fixed that bug on the other two default planes they’re responsible for (the C172 and the C208).

e.g.

they did make the C408, didn’t they? EDIT: no, it’s Carenado.
