[MSFS2024] De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver

has the wheel damage and hard braking tipover been permanently disabled?? Free flight

Idk for sure but can only make guesses whats the issue at blackbirds end - they had gear damage and front tipover on hard braking in beaver until su2. After su3 both these things were removed because they were over sensitive. I have asked them multiple times why they dont reinstate those and they say they can only do what the MS contract tells them - absolutely fine but then how did it exist in the first place itself if its not in contract. Very weird

I did a flight in the Beaver last night, and I can confirm that if you brake hard, you will put your prop into the ground!

Is the fuel consumption still wrong? After one hour of flight time my tanks were more or less empty?

And does the mixture adjustments make any difference?

I just made a short flight about 120 nm and it took me also a little bit more than 1 hour to reach my destination. I burned a single tank for it. Exactly 36 gallons. Iā€˜m very happy with such a performance. Engine power settings in cruise were 25 inHg and 2000 RPM. I have no clue regarding mixture. I leaned it until RPM increased slightly and EGT just reached the blue arc a very tiny bit.

Love this plane, it looks and flies great. Two major issues that need to be fixed though:

  1. VOR receiver is not working.
  2. Mixture setting has no apparent effect.

I have had at least some effect from the mixture (high altitude airports like the ones in many SAR missions in career, has to be leaned way back to even keep the engine running)

I found this on YouTube. Check it out at 5:45. The creator says the mixture isn’t modeled correctly.

I have found that while the sim does not show the effects of leaning, leaning actually DOES reduce the fuel flow. But because of no EGT or effect on temperatures, the only practical way to lean the aircraft appropriately that I have found is to look at the fuel flow displayed in Little NavMap. The MilViz POH also actually shows the fuel flow for different power settings as below on page 60:

If you don’t lean the aircraft, you will find you will run out of fuel very quickly. So I lean the aircraft while watching the fuel flow in LNM. Rather unrealistic but it did seem to work perfectly the previous times I used the aircraft.

Itā€˜s always a pleasure to watch P.Gatecombā€˜s videos. I think he is a real pilot and surely has a nice talent to explain things very nicely. The video you are linking to is 1 year old and over this time the DHC-2 got some updates which should have addressed most of the biggest bugs so what I now starting to believe is that the simulated mixture system is working as intended. On the other hand people are talking about a VOR bug which is critical and isnā€˜t fixed yet. By the way. Is this bug related to autopilot or is it also present when you are just using plain VOR in manual VFR flights? Was it introduced in SU 4? Whatever. The DHC-2 is a great aircraft and letā€˜s hope it continues to be one of those frequently maintained ones. I actually left airliners behind and are only concentrating on the older GA ones. Just trying to figure out which one to master. The DC-3 or Beaver. Maybe the Beaver is a better choice for short trips across the Rockies.

The needle on the VOR indicator does not move at all no matter where you are in relation to the station. So I definitely was unable to hand fly it. I haven’t checked if the autopilot is still able to fly it. Strangely enough it seems the TO/FROM arrow does flip back and forth as you fly around

For me VOR is working with the Beaver. Iā€˜m using the Wheels / Passenger Cabin / GPS variant but usually fly VFR. GPS serves always as a nice backup if the airport is IFR only.

Hello. Is there some way to enable wear and tear on it? I can bang her hard on ground and nothing to punish this
