[MSFS2024] De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver

I would expect this isn’t exclusive to the Beaver. If you start C&D on water, you spawn in the cockpit, but due to the pitot cover, you still have to do a walkaround; in which case you get to be like Jesus for a few moments, which is epic.

I always wanted to be able to walk on water:

Has anyone been able to see an active needle in one of the two CDI when tuned, and in range, of a known good VOR/LOC?

I’m basically flying toward MQO @ 112.40 and I see both needles are dead centered and do not respond to an OBS change.

I’m also closing on the path for LOC ISBP @ 109.70 and I also do not see needle deflection.

Additionally, if I try to engage NAV on the AP, nothing happens.

I accept it’s a taildragger feature, but I find it far too easy to flip it over.
Probably my issue, not the aircraft but it totally puts me off.

Just tap on the brakes repeatedly instead of holding full brake. I never tip it over this way.

Disappointed that it still uses the legacy prop animation system. The new one seems much easier to implement and looks so much more convincing. The legacy textures are pretty poor to boot, being essentially a fsx style flat disc.

Shouldn’t any aircraft of this type have a Hobbs meter? Or can I just not find it.

Had to fly this in Career Mode but had to abandon it in the middle of the flight because there clearly was no where near enough fuel to make the trip. Either it guzzles way too much or the game doesn’t give it enough fuel for the mission since you can fuel it yourself either.

Forgot to say, yes, I did configure it correctly for cruise. However, the mixture lever does not seem to do anything, it doesn’t affect any temperatures or fuel economy, nor the engine performance.

I haven’t run out of fuel in the beav yet. Consider leaning aggressively, climbing to get better TAS and lower fuel flow, taking advantage of tailwinds, etc.

Gods I hate this aircraft with a passion, even more so because I know its my lack of temperament with her that causes all the errors with her.

Even so, every so often I try to take her out on a mission and get humbled.

The Beaver must be one of the easiest planes to fly in the game, can’t imagine the problems people are having. I haven’t checked fuel consumption but I could do this via simvars.exe, at least this would probably clear the claim of excessive fuel usage.

Y’all with the fuel issues are remembering to use all three tanks right?

You can. Set a key binding to add fuel. I did, and have tested it, but have never needed it yet. I’ve not flown this aircraft in career though.

I’m currently on a mission where I’m cruising at my designated altitude of 8800 ft altimeter 30.19 In.Hg

As per the checklist I have ~29.7 In.Hg throttle, with RPM at ~1965 and 20% lean. This is the absolute lowest I can go before literally losing engine power but still keep decent airspeed. I’m currently on 7% fuel with ~120NM left, front and rear tanks are empty.

If the aircraft is not bugged then I must be missing something.

Well I just typed a comment, I’m about to use that keybind again because I am once again running out of fuel for a career mode mission. I did everything seemingly by the book but I’m still running out of fuel at just above halfway of the route.

A flat disc texture is far, far more realistic vs what we see in the “new” prop animations in most other planes. The only time you’ll see a prop strobing IRL like we see in the sim is very low RPM or through a camera lens

Yeah, that’s pretty low. Do you have a strong headwind?

It very well might use too much fuel. There was plenty of aircraft in 2020 that either used too much or too little.

You can have a flat strobing disk which disappears from the side in this case, worst of both worlds I guess? The new props actually have depth and volume.

I’m sure they could be implemented to look like a flat disk from the front while still keeping the smooth speed transitions and depth. You can even see the prop pitch change with the new visuals which is amazing.

I’ll take the new modern prop rendering system any day over something that looks like it’s from fsx.

Ok I’ll bite. I’ve flown maybe 80% of the planes in 24 but not all and maybe I’ve missed something amazing where we don’t get the strobing effect or individual blades casting harsh shadows. Got any specific suggestions?

Back on topic, I looked back and my Beaver mod for 20 included a substantial fuel burn reduction so I have little doubt the one in 24 is burning too much too. That would follow with the other observations above
