I just checked and I reduced the 20 version’s fuel flow by over 40% to make the numbers approach reality. I can no longer check the 24 number by default but I have no reason to suspect it has changed much
Besides the obvious fact of the DHC-2 needing bushwheels,
there’s one thing that kinda bothers me, but it’s a me thing probably:
I hear some subtle noise in the engine which always make it sound kinda damaged to me in FS24.
The engine surely is fine, all temps in the greens, manifold pressure and rpm are set appropriate as well, and i can fly for hrs and hrs so it’s probably not me wrecking this thing…
I guess i’d need to start up FS20 again and compare, maybe it was present there already as well…?
Other than that, not a lot of words to loose on the Beaver for me: I kinda love it, surely one of my favorites to fly in FS24.
EDIT: I just read the fuel flow thing - i was thinking it might be somewhat high but then brushed it off as me imagining things… i guess y’all are on to something here!
Any chance the oil cap in the cockpit is still loose? It’s loose by default and rattles while the engine is running
The chance is: YES!
Thanks, i will tighten it up next time and have a close listen again.
100% appreciated.
Sorry it took so long. No I had almost no wind at all.
where did the old tablet go? we used to be able to change propeller cone color etc?
This is one of the worst planes in terms of flight characteristics. Totally unusable in the cargo missions.
I posted this in the bug report thread as well, the only way to get the OBS working with nav radios is to bind “TACAN DRIVES GPS” and “GPS DRIVES NAV1” (on my phone, those should be close to the actual blinds) and toggle one or both of them in the cockpit. If you don’t, then the course line will just slave to the non-existent GPS unit, which actually can be observed working if you reference the course on your EFB.
Another user reported that this will not allow the AP NAV mode to work with radios, unfortunately. But the Beaver’s AP often tries to kill me so I stick to Heading and VS/ALT modes.
Did you add fuel before takeoff? Career seems to always spawn the aircraft with between 1/3 and 1/2 fuel, it does not necessarily give you enough for the trip (that’s a separate problem…)
It sounds like you’re configuring correctly for cruise, might even be able to go lower on the throttle and RPM. I usually put my pressure at the top of the blue arc and RPM around 1700, the lower rpm gives a lot of power for cruise in this aircraft.
I didn’t buy this for any of my companies, I experienced this from the “employee” missions where I have not found a way to add fuel without cheating. It is not possible to add it in the EFB at any time. It is possible to call a fuel truck but it doesn’t seem to ever connect to the aircraft.
Shorter missions are completable, but on longer missions there is never enough fuel. On one mission I had to add fuel twice during cruise.
Yes, I did switch fuel tanks.
That’s a bug with all of the missions, they give a default amount of fuel but not necessarily enough to actually fly the mission
It’s not usually noticeable, but the Beaver doesn’t have a huge range and so it becomes an issue for a lot of flights with it. I would just use the “add fuel” bind to adjust it before you take off.
For those who have tried beaver with tundra tyres in msfs 20, can anyone please tell if theres much difference in landing dynamics and overal FM between tundra and standard tyres?
Same problem with me. How do yoh rate bush landings on stock tyres vs tundra? Possible to do it with sufficient skills progress?
I solved my problems with this plane by resetting my career and never doing the taildragger tests so it doesn’t spam me with missions using it. Much happier for it.
I guess we can “blame” MS/Asobo for contracting all those companies directly in efforts to improve the stock fleet, or we can look at it from the other side:
“The joys of ascending you business”.
All over sudden “it’s not our aircraft”… Doesn’t make much sense to me given the Beaver never was got friends’ aircraft to begin with.
Still thankful for their old mods and especially the 40th anniversary pack, no doubt, but there’s always 2 sides to every story.
EDIT: To be fair we don’t know if MS/Asobo explicitly won’t allow got friends to lay hand on the aircraft or whatever, that also might be a possibility. Although it’s tough to imagine that being true for me
Apologies for being pedantic, but Got Friends isn’t involved with the Beaver. It was Blackbird that developed it.
Yea, 100% true. That part never changed, nor was was i ever doubting it…
Yep, noticed this last night too! They are animated wrong and pivoting/rotating on the wrong axis lol
You can see through the “underside” of one of the needles when its at 50% (default) because it’s sitting on its side.
This will be fixed and sent up to MS/Asobo this week.
Is it really so now that you as a 3rd party dev have to fix your aircraft for FS 2024 instead of 2024 being compatibel to 2020 in this regard as promised by MS/Asobo?
And what if they fix 2024 eventually to be compatible, will this break your aircraft again?
