So how am I supposed to fly this thing on controller on Xbox? I don’t get it. I can take off by pulling back on the stick then press the button to make it go forward but then I can’t control anything else. I can’t bank or tilt the aircraft with the gamepads left stick. It does nothing.

Check if it works fine from the runway I got this problem from cold & dark.

Yup. Seems to be a cold and dark issue. Thanks.

I can’t figure out why I randomly get Systems Engine failure in cruise. I couldn’t find anything specific in the manual. Guessing it’s a bug between the model and the sim.

Every fly… let’s wait debug

This aircraft has been quit fun to fly. I had to re-wire my thinking from flying helicopters to the Joby as the left controller manages speed vs a collective handling climbs/descends. I don’t think there is an AP but works well without it.

I think the issues with ā€œengine malfunctionsā€ happen if you start cold & dark. I’ve flown multiple legs after starting on the runway or helipad and no issues. This thing is definitely cool.

It works fine as long as you start with it running on the runway or helipad. If you try and start cold and dark anywhere else its uncontrolable.

Its fun to fly when it works though. My pilots head sticking out of the top of it is annoying.

If starting from the runway makes you mad, like it makes me mad, then you can do the following:
Start from the runway, turn everything off, slew the plane to a parking spot. And now you are free to start it again as if it were c&d but it will work fine.
This can be used for example if you want to fly on vatsim, you connect once you have slewed the plane to a parking spot.

Since the latest update my pilot has grown in height by the looks of things.

Some time when trying to touch down seem challenging as much as I push on the stick forward to land its like it still want to fly an keep trying to maintain a hover over the helipad. But way I have landed in hover mode is by having a little forward speed an landing on the helipad as if you were in fly mode and hover mode at the same time.

In a nushell
This is a fun and interesting aircraft to fly, although I had to create a new profile for my joystick before I could fly with any degree of control.

Flight Model and Aircraft Systems (8)
Very easy to fly once you master the controls. The MFD is intuitive and one quickly learns how to read the data and adjust the two interceptors to control the aircraft. The PFD & GTC are also easy to master.

It would have been nice to have had the EFB displayed, perhaps placed in the area below the Range-CDI-Baro controls. Clicking the EFB there would display then the full EFB, as if one had used the TAB key. Some other aircraft do this.

Interior and Exterior Graphics (9)
The graphics on the exterior model is excellent. I appreciate being able to set & remove the pitot covers, charge the aircraft with the generator, inspect the cargo area, & open the front doors without the camera shifting to the cockpit view.
Note: On my PC, the two rear doors fail to open. I’ve created a bug report here.

The graphics on the interior are also very good. It would have been nice to have had click-spots to open the doors and then another click to exit.

Audio and Aircraft Sounds (8)
I have no idea how the real aircraft is supposed to sound, so can’t comment on the authenticity of the sounds, but they sound OK.

Overall Enjoyment of this aircraft (10)
I enjoy flying this aircraft a lot. It is a good aircraft to use for flight-seeing around cities. The ability to recharge anywhere on the ground, though unrealistic, is appreciated as it enables longer flight times. Energy management of the aircraft is a new and interesting component of flying.

The Aircraft Manual (Would rate an 8)
Having the manual greatly helped me learn how to fly the aircraft. It is very comprehensive and logically set out for someone who is willing to read all 63 pages, but this depth of information is too much for those who just want to get in the aircraft and fly.

I’d suggest taking some of the information in the document and creating a ā€œquick-flyā€ chart. This would include the Cockpit Overview Picture on page 9, immediately followed by the Button Mappings on page 49.

Since this aircraft has the handling of an aircraft & a helicopter, depending upon the phase of flight, trying to fly as one would an ordinary fixed-wing GA aircraft using ones standard joystick mappings for a GA aircraft did not end well (!) - it took me quite a while to work out the best arrangement of key mappings for my joystick, and I ended up having to screenshot both the mappings chart & cockpit photo & putting them into a single picture to figure out which mapping went to which control. Scrolling between pages 9 and 49 is not the best solution here!

Perhaps having graphics showing the recommended mappings for a variety of the most common peripherals could also be included.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, massively. For once, a really well done eVTOL that was easy to fly (once I found the tutorial video on it, how to fly it in 2024 on YouTube). It flies excellent.

The only reason I didnt give it straight 10’s is that it refuses to land and shut down if there are cross winds, which keep it from having all tires on the ground, which keeps it from powering off, which causes it to hop and keep running.

Also, a odd ā€˜hop’ in flights, when going slow/med speeds, semi VTOL mode and hover mode. A odd sort of hop.

But aside from that, this thing is AWESOME! Salute to the team that made the airfile model system in this, the excellent model and quality of the exterior and interior. The cool charging system and ability to speed up charging, the cool graphics for managing both flight modes in the screen. I love auto-hover.

Some very hard work was put into this. It is done amazingly well. I was extremely impressed.

If the actual Joby will be like this, it is going to be highly successful.

I have to say, the Joby S4 is very cool. As someone who cannot figure out helis for the life of me, this is an alternative that is easy to handle. Super easy to handle, really. It took me a bit to figure out how it works initially but once I did it all made sense. I don’t really love the look of the Joby, but that’s another story. The way its implemented in the sim is fantastic and it makes perfect sense why it was added as a default aircraft. Really good for sight seeing, but also not bad when it comes to Point A-to-Point B flying.

Very positively surprised by this one.
Loved the manual even though I wish the control assignments were explained in the beginning but I guess that way I kept reading.
Once you get the hang of it very cool and it makes sense with the manual.

miniscule nitpicks: Not all buttons are animated when you press the corresponding button.

It really is the ultimate sight seeing plane in the sim. Very, very easy to fly once you get the gist of what does what and its really quite nippy once it gets going.

I’ve actually hardly touched any chopper in FS2024 as a result of this thing being so much fun.

Great aircraft! I see you can set way points and all but does this aircraft have auto pilot? If so, does anyone know how to get it to work? Thx!

There’s no autopilot.

Does anyone know how to load passengers?

You have it in the archer if that matters to you.
For the Joby it is FBW and the range is limited so there is really no need for an autopilot. You can just point the aircraft towards where you are going.
