You can use this free tool ( link below ) , or if you aren’t putting very many things in community, create the symbolic link yourself.
If actual data is somewhere like E:\addons\aircraft\Transall you go to the 2024 community folder on C, open a command prompt and type:
mklink /J Transall “E:\addons\aircraft\Transall”
This is a directory link – you must include the /J
With this approach you don’t use any space on the C drive.
I am change last row in the UserCfg.opt in c:\Users\ yourFolder\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Limitless_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages to InstalledPackagesPath “E:\MSFS2024\Packages”
My question is, can the Community Folder from MSFS2020 be used and transfered to the MSFS2024??? I understand that the aircraft, etc are not compatible???
Exactly what I expereinced a couple of days ago. quite annoying, as all my files in the old community folder dfoes not work, and if i add new packages to the “new” comunnity folder, is won’t work.
I have the same problem. I DO NOT want data stored on my C: drive. I hit the COG and entered new path. (rebooted) hit the cog again under my library and the path is now there. I then click OPEN and the items are in there… but rebooting the sim does not show ANY of the installed items.
The Community folder is where it was placed via the installation of FS2024.
In my case, I installed FS2024 via the installation screen to my K: drive.
It is referenced as being on the C: drive because the “Installed Packages”
(Community and Official folders) are listed on the C: drive as Symbolic links when you install to a different drive. But, they are physically on the different drive.
The last time I checked this, moving the “Installed Packages” via changing the UserCfg.opt file or the My Library setting did not move the “Installed Packages”.
But since MS/ Asobo can now change/update things without our knowledge, I don’t know what the status is now.
There is a Windows command to show where a Symbolic link physically is located.
This has been a pain in my side. I installed 2024 to my “S:” SSD. However when I use my tool to search for something - it’s usually found on C: (limitless). I don’t want misc ■■■■ on C: it is for my OS and utils.
In the sim under the “cog” it lets me set the path for community. (I put it on S:/storage/) I click OPEN PATH and it shows the proper directory. However nothing I place in this community folder ever appears in the sim. Even things said to be 2024 compatible. (double ender by Gotfriends for example).
I CTD a lot - it takes 4-5 tries to get it to not CTD during the opening video. Often it says didn’t open do you want to do safe mode. I always pick safe mode. (It’s going to then ignore the community folder). But more often will load in safe mode. (what else is making it safer?)
It’s really quite a frustrating mess. As well many controls work opposite directions in various planes though I have “apply to all AC” selected.
14900, win11, 4090, I’ve invested THOUSANDS into this sim to play it and really… “can’t”. = (
The COG is the button (like settings). In marketplace… then click (my packages) or what ever it’s called… (manage?) there is a GEAR “Cog” icon. click it and it lets you set the path to the community folder. Save and restart the sim. Going in there again and clicking “SHOW COMMUNITY FOLDER” opens my new path… and shows my items. But they do not appear in the sim.
Anyone know if I can then delete the Packages Folder in the original location of Community Folder once i have moved it and it has successfully created a new Packages folder on a different drive with the two Officials, StreamedPackages, and Community.
Hi - I successfully changed the Community folder to my custom location on D:, however:
The new Community folder is empty
The original/default Community folder is still there will all the content
I cannot Copy or Cut → Paste all the existing content from the original/default Community folder to the new one
all the already-downloaded/purchased content are now gone in FS2024
It seems that the ‘move’ just points FS2024 Community folder to a new location, but it does NOT automatically move any exisitng content from the old to the new, nor does it allow us to move the content manually??
You probably installed MSFS 2024 incorrectly — you chose a different location for the launcher installation, which is why you’re having permission problems.
In another thread, I’ll soon explain how to properly install MSFS 2024 to avoid permission issues and other problems in the future. I could help you now with moving files and what to edit, but I won’t do that because it might confuse you. Instead, I’ll write shortly what you need to do.
