MSFS2024 much improved after removal of ASUS Armoury Crate

I had on my to-do list to remove Armoury Crate (desktop pc) for a while now.

For example, even the intro animation used to be a stuttering mess. Now its almost completely smooth during loading. Wow.

Removal steps:

  1. Disable Armoury Crate auto install in BIOS
  2. Download from ASUS site the Armoury Crate Uninstall Tool
  3. Boot into ‘Safe Mode with Networking’ and run the uninstall tool as admin
  4. Restart normally
  5. Do step 1. after each BIOS update

Wow tx. I hope this will help yet another batch of unsatisfied simmers.

Any other improvements aside from the loading screen?

Any idea about the cause of the conflict?

I have no idea what the conflict was, but Armoury Crate isn’t the most popular piece of software in the enthusiast circles to put it gently. It runs an insane amount of processes.

The whole menu system, like in Free Flight seemed smoother too. And had to stopwatch the loading time, 1 min 24 sec, appears to be good.

Haven’t had time to do a long flight session, but again everything was pretty smooth.

Everything will be much improved by removing Armoury Crate.

Over the years, I’ve tried using Gigabyte and MSI software, plus Corsair’s ICUE. I tried out Armoury Crate this year as I have the Pro Art 420mm cooler, & thought it’d be nice to be able to control & sync the very minimal lighting with the rest of my PC.

Armoury Crate is a massive resource hog, doesn’t work very well in itself, and it’s just horrible to use. It was also causing my PC to sometimes fail to start up, with an enormous list of errors and warnings in the Event Log all attributed to AC.

Gigabyte’s Control Centre and Corsair’s ICUE are pretty bad, but Armoury Crate is way, way worse. MSI Centre is clunky but reasonably useable in comparison.

Thread drift I know but talking of Asus, if you use Armoury Crate you might see a screen takeover on startup with a Christmas garland on the right. This looks like a virus and had many users worried but it is safe. Dumb idea from Asus though. I regret bothering with AC.

Armoury crate is garbage, and it shouldn’t be used at all, especially on a gaming PC. The very fact that you need a specific uninstaller tool to get rid of it says a lot about its invasiveness and quality of programming.
Personally, I use OpenRGB to control the lights. It has also a fan plugin to control the fans.
It’s very light and can be even quit while retaining the settings (provided that your RGB devices have a memory to keep their settings).

I unistalled Armory Crate months ago and it solved many issues.

Thanks, I will give this a go.

What a boost I got… thankyou. Now CPU goes higher in utilization (and fans make more noise). It’s like an overclocking to me…

Thanks, I had this banner the other day, did a CTRL+SHIFT+ESC to open task mananger and it disappeared ! at least i know what it is now, the most stupid thing I’ve seen in a long time.

Also if you don’t see the uninstall tool on the website use a VPN to the USA and download it that way.

The wildest part about Armory Crate is that to uninstall it, you have to download an uninstaller (at least that used to be the case, don’t know if it still is). They went out of their way to make it as malware-esque as possible. Definitely recommend anyone who has it get rid of it ASAP. For folks at least on laptops, this free alternative can give you some of its functionality back without the downsides: GitHub - seerge/g-helper: Lightweight Armoury Crate alternative for Asus laptops and ROG Ally. Control tool for ROG Zephyrus G14, G15, G16, M16, Flow X13, Flow X16, TUF, Strix, Scar and other models

I would recommend to do the same with the whole AI Suite as well. I used to have it but it never really worked properly and was just causing issues.

It was awhile ago so I don’t remember the exact improvement, but I saw around a 50 point increase in 3dMark Time Spy after uninstalling Armoury Crate. Nothing earth shattering, but still kind of a ridiculous impact for a piece of software that wasn’t even actively running.

Wasn’t it really actively running? I mean, in the background, as one or more services? I think it was.

It has been known for a very long time that software provided by motherboard manufacturers has a negative impact not only on MSFS 2020/2024 but on all games. Applications such as Armoury Crate from ASUS, MSI Center, Gigabyte software and similar tools from other manufacturers belong in the trash, not on our desktops.

Of course, someone might claim they haven’t experienced any issues - but this isn’t about individual cases. What matters is the global perspective, which consistently shows that software from motherboard or laptop manufacturers negatively affects the performance of all games. This thread further confirms what I stated long ago.

Hello, good morning, merry Christmas

How do you do this. I have this and want to uninstall it completely to see the difference

Most bios have a search function built into them. Try pressing F7 for advanced mode.

Armoury crate is poorly maintained. It soul purpose is data collection imo. There is very little effort put into providing the service it is supposed to do.

Is your question solely about BIOS, or also the uninstall tool?

BIos, I used the Armoury unistall tool to unistall it but was curious as to whether I need to look at the BIOS as well
