MSFS2024 November 19th, 2024

This seems to be the biggest thing that’s being overlooked. Anyone can go buy more storage space for their PC but loads of folks can’t get a good enough internet connection in 2024. It seems there is always this assumption that a fast and stable internet connection is a given for everyone these days and it’s simply not. If given a choice I’ll take having to store the data locally over streamed data every time.

Yes, I’ve been flying it for the last two days.

There are a lot of INOP buttons, and switches. None of the circuit breakers work either.
No GPS navigation, only radio, and some NAV related buttons don’t work.
Dropping water, and scooping it, does work. You can also program how you want the water to release, either manually with 2 or 4 doors, or autocycling 2 doors, then the other 2 or all 4 in sequence with a programmable delay between them.
Trying to map things in SPAD is a pain. Some of the controls just don’t seem to work. I haven’t yet sussed the starters, or the igniters, but the VC switches do work.
Panel lighting didn’t seem to work for me. In the 2024 footage we’ve seen there are some green lights near the water controls that I don’t seem to have some I’m assuming what we have now is not what will be in 2024.
When spawning at a sea base with C&D starts, like LUDD, it spawns with its landing gear down, and you can’t raise them. If you slew to raise them it will sometimes get into a state where rudder seems to alternate between full left, and full right, and is uncontrollable. That can sometimes cause it to do this:

Would you guess that the FS2024 version will have the same level of detail or that it will have more?

I’m hoping for the latter, but not with a great deal of expectation.

Yes that’s a huge disk commitment.

However, I have a 1 TB hard disk lying in a drawer, removed and replaced by an SSD a while back.

It can probably read at 1 giga bits per second, or better, 24/7. SATA buffers at 6 Gbs. Broadband that fast is not available to most domestic locations.

Community addons, planes and scenery can be moved to a spare hard disk by moving the MSFS packages folder. All the program code stays on the install SSD for max speed.

You have to edit the last line in userCfg.opt or move the files or during update/install change the path.

I moved packages to C:/MSFS_Packages which is very convenient to find and edit; I planned to move it to another disk in the future, its 160GB at the moment.

I hope so. I spent some more time with SPAD this morning, and I’ve got pretty much every switch on my Logitech panels configured, including selective start of either the left or right engine, depending on the position of the autothrottle switch on the multipanel.

I just need something for the cowl flap switch to do. Probably water release now, or dual function. In autothrottle position ARM it could raise or lower the water probes, and in position OFF it could release the water. Tested, and this works great.

Are you going to publish your spad profile?

Isn’t this the limited edition / aka steelbook edition then? Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 - Limited Collector's Edition | Aerosoft US Shop

Or do you mean this one? https://www.sportsdirect.lu/microsoft-game-microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-premium-deluxe-steelbook-edition-372247#colcode=37224769

Already done, but I noticed a couple of issues with it, but nothing glaring. One of the panel light pots is set to 100 for both on, and off.. Update published, with some other enhancements.

I was referring to the Premium Deluxe Jumbo Steelbook Edition, so the latter.

I had a really good time this week-end with the CL-415. Looking forward to map the drop button with my stick, with the SPAD mentionned earlier if possible (never playedwith that).

Anyone found how to change the default callsign and ID as we are used to do in the aircraft.cfg file, since there is no such file ?

You can do that from the aircraft selection menu in the World Planner, under customization.

It’s easier than you think, but does require some understanding of how SPAD works to get the most out of it.

Thanks you guys. The customization menu is bad since it keeps the info from a session to another and to other planes.
Will try to understand the spad

So I looked in MS Store and I don’t see the premium deluxe for pre-order.

Also I hope that the recommended specs still gives good performance since I don’t want to tear open my computer and put 32GB more memory (I don’t even know whether my motherboard can handle it). I bought the Alienware pre-configured from Dell.

Are you using a 4k screen? If not, I really doubt you will need 64GB of ram.

No. Just an Alienware E3 monitor that has HDMI and DisplayPort interfaces. Thanks.

Interesting interview on Youtube with Seb from Asobo on the “Technology of MSFS 2024”, talking about the new architecture and Azure, etc.
